We have successfully demonstrated the inkjet printing method to create $Al_2O_3$ films withouWe have successfully demonstrated the inkjet printing method to create $Al_2O_3$ films without a high temperature sintering process. In order to remove the coffee ring effect in the ink drop, we have introduced a co-solvent system in order to create Marangoni flow in the ink drop, which leads to the dense packing of ceramic powders on the substrate during inkjet process. The packing density of the Inkjet-printed $Al_2O_3$ films is around 60% (max. 70%) which is very high compared to the value obtained from the same material films by other conventional methods such as film casting, dip coating process, etc. The voids inside the films (which are around 40% of the entire film volume) are filled with the polymer resin (Cyanate ester) by the infiltration process. This resin infiltration is also implemented by the inkjet printing process right after the Ah03 film ink-jetting process. The microstructures of the printed $Al_2O_3$ films are investigated by Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) to understand the degree of packing density in the printed films. The inkjet-printed $Al_2O_3$ films have been characterized to investigate its thickness and roughness. Quality factor of the printed $Al_2O_3$ film is also measured to be over 300 at 1MHz.
Nano-indium-coated ZnO:In thick films were prepared by a hydrothermal method. ZnO:In gas sensors were fabricated by a screen printing method on alumina substrates. The gas sensing properties of the gas sensors were investigated for hydrocarbon gas. The effects of the indium concentration of the ZnO:In gas sensors on the structural and morphological properties were investigated by X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy. XRD patterns revealed that the ZnO:In with wurtzite structure was grown with (1 0 0), (0 0 2), and (1 0 1) peaks. The quantity of In coating on the ZnO surface increased with increasing In concentration. The sensitivity of the ZnO:In sensors was measured for 5 ppm $CH_4$ gas and $CH_3CH_2CH_3$ gas at room temperature by comparing the resistance in air with that in target gases. The highest sensitivity to $CH_4$ gas and $CH_3CH_2CH_3$ gas of the ZnO:In sensors was observed at the In 6 wt%. The response and recovery times of the 6 wt% indiumcoated ZnO:In gas sensors were 19 s and 12 s, respectively.
Dielectric characteristics of P(VDF/TrFE) film manufactured using spin coating technique have been investigated. To improve the crystallinity and quality of film, the film was three step annealed. Simple etching process and conditions for P(VDF/TrFE) film were established using top electrode as a mask. Poling is performed by several steps. $1.87\;{\mu}m$ thick P(VDF/TrFE) films were obtained with conditions such that the solution of 10 wt% concentration was spun at 3000rpm for 30 seconds. Before poling, dielectric constant and dielectric loss of P(VDF/TrFE) film were 13.5 and 0.042, respectively. After poling, dielectric constant and dielectric loss of P(VDF/TrFE) film were 11.5 and 0.037, respectively.
Dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) were synthesized using a $0.25cm^2$ area of a $TiO_2$ nanoparticle layer as the electrode and platinum (Pt) as the counter electrode. The $TiO_2$ nanoparticle layers (12 to 22 ${\mu}m$) were screen-printed on fluorine-doped tin oxide glass. Glancing angle X-ray diffraction results indicated that the $TiO_2$ layer is composed of pure anatase with no traces of rutile $TiO_2$. The Pt counter electrode and the ruthenium dye anchored $TiO_2$ electrode were then assembled. The best photovoltaic performance of DSSC, which consists of a $18{\mu}m$ thick $TiO_2$ nanoparticle layer, was observed at a short circuit current density ($J_{sc}$) of $14.68mA{\cdot}cm^{-2}$, an open circuit voltage ($V_{oc}$) of 0.72V, a fill factor (FF) of 63.0%, and an energy conversion efficiency (${\eta}$) of 6.65%. It can be concluded that the electrode thickness is attributed to the energy conversion efficiency of DSSCs.

The leaky wave emanated from the dielectric-coated parallel-plate waveguide with finite periodic thick slot in its upper plate is investigated theoretically for H-polarization case. For this structure, fields in slot regions are expressed as a summation of the parallel-plate waveguide TM modes, and in other regions are expressed in the spectral domain by use of the inverse Fourier transform. Boundary conditions at the interfaces are enforced, and the simultaneous linear equations are derived. The influences of the slot width, slot thickness, thickness of a dielectric coating, and finite slot number on the radiation characteristics (phase constant, leakage constant, radiation pattern) are examined. The results of the finite periodic slot are compared with those of the infinite extent structure and good agreement has been found.

Nanocrystalline nickel (Ni) tick films were synthesized by direct current electrodeposition at current density from 1 to $30mA/cm^2$ and pH = 4. The basic composition of the bath, which was prepared by dissolving Ni metal particles in HCl, was 0.2M Ni ions. The effects of the current density on the average grain size of Ni deposits were investigated by XRD and SEM techniques. The results showed that the surface roughness was decreased as the saccharin addition was increased up to 2 g/l. The experimental results showed that the increase in the current density had a considerable effect on the average grain size of the Ni deposits. The perpendicular magnetization was raised as the thickness of coating layer was increased.

Pd-based membranes have been widely used in hydrogen purification and separation due to their high hydrogen diffusivity and infinite selectivity. However, it has been difficult to fabricate thin and dense Pd-based membranes on a porous stainless steel(PSS) support. In case of a conventional PSS support having the large size of surface pores, it was required to use complex surface treatment and thick Pd coating more than $6{\mu}m$ on the PSS was required in order to form pore free surface. In this study, we could fabricate thin and dense Pd membrane with only $3{\mu}m$ Pd layer on a new PSS support manufactured by metal injection molding(MIM). The PSS support had low surface roughness and mean pore size of $5{\mu}m$. Pd membrane were prepared by advanced Pd sputter deposition on the modified PSS support using fine polishing and YSZ vacuum filling surface treatment. At temperature $400^{\circ}C$ and transmembrane pressure difference of 1 bar, hydrogen flux and selectivity of $H_2/N_2$ were $11.22ml\;cm^{-2}min^{-1}$ and infinity, respectively. Comparing with $6{\mu}m$ Pd membrane, $3{\mu}m$ Pd membrane showed 2.5 times higher hydrogen flux which could be due to the decreased Pd layer thickness from $6{\mu}m$ to $3{\mu}m$ and an increased porosity. It was also found that pressure exponent was changed from 0.5 on $6{\mu}m$ Pd membrane to 0.8 on $3{\mu}m$ Pd membrane.

Thermal radiation pastes were prepared by dispersing carbon materials as fillers with a content of 1 weight percent in an acrylic resin. The kind of fillers was as follows; $25{\mu}m$ graphite, $45{\mu}m$ graphite, $15{\mu}m$ carbon nanotube(CNT), a 1:1 mixture of $25{\mu}m$ graphite and $15{\mu}m$ CNT, and a 1:1 mixture of $45{\mu}m$ graphite and $15{\mu}m$ CNT. Thermal emissivity was measured as 0.890 for the samples with graphite only, 0.893 for that with CNT only, and 0.892 for those containing both. After coating prepared pastes on a side of 0.4 mm thick aluminium plate and placing the plate over an opening of a box maintained at $92^{\circ}C$ with the coated side out, the temperatures on the uncoated side of the plates were measured. The samples containing graphite and CNT showed the lowest temperatures. The paste with mixed fillers was coated on the back side of the PCB of an LED module and thermal analysis was carried out using Thermal Transient Tester (T3ster) in a still air box. The thermal resistance of the module with coated PCB was measured as 14.34 K/W whereas that with uncoated PCB was 15.02 K/W. The structure function analysis of T3ster data revealed that the difference between junction and ambient temperatures was $13.8^{\circ}C$ for the coated case and $18.0^{\circ}C$ for the uncoated. From the infrared images of heated LED modules, the hottest-spot temperature of the module with coated PCB was lower than that of the uncoated one for a given period of LED operation.
Titanium (Ti) is a bioinert material and has lower elastic coefficient and better strength/volume property than other metals. Ferroelectric materials show alignment of positive and negative charges by poling treatment. This study was purposed to develop a new implant system by combining the advantages of Ti and ferroelectric property of $BaTiO_3$ (BTO). It was performed with the assumption that the $Ca^{2+ }$ ions would be easily attracted on negatively charged surface and the attracted cation might behave as nuclei for bone-like crystal growth in biological solutions. A ferroelectric BTO thin film on Ti was fabricated and the effect of poling treatment on the improvement of calcium phosphate (Ca-P) formation in biological solutions was evaluated. After immersion in Eagle’s minimum essential media (MEM) solution, NaCl was formed on Ti, and Ca-P layer containing NaCl was formed on Ti-O. Weak and sparse Ca-P layers were formed on BTO, while thick, homogeneous, and dense Ca-P layer was formed on negatively polarized BTO (N-BTO), which was confirmed by FE-SEM and EDX. In summary, these results demonstrate that poling the ferroelectric BTO surface negatively is effective for the formation of Ca-P layer in MEM solution, and that N-BTO coating on Ti could be used as a possible alternative method for enhancing the osseointegration of the implants.

Nanocrystalline diamond(NCD) coated SiC balls were applied in a ball-on-disk tribometer. After seeding in an ultrasonic bath containing nanometer diamond powders, $2.2{\mu}m$ thick NCD films were deposited on sintered 3 mm diameter SiC balls at $600^{\circ}C$ in a 2.45 GHz microwave plasma CVD system. Bare $ZrO_2$ and SiC balls were prepared for comparison as test balls. Tribology tests were performed in air with pairs of three different balls and mirror polished steel(SKH51) disk. The wear tracks on balls and disks were examined by optical microscope and alpha step profiler. Under the load of 3 N, the friction coefficients of steel against $ZrO_2$, SiC and NCD-coated balls were between 0.4 and 0.8. After a few thousands sliding laps, the friction coefficient of NCD-coated balls dropped from 0.45 to below 0.1 and maintained thereafter. Under a higher load of 10 N or 20 N with a long sliding distance of 2 km, $ZrO_2$ and SiC balls exhibited the similar friction coefficients as above. The friction coefficient of NCD-coated balls was less than 0.1 from the beginning and increased to above 0.1 steadily or with some fluctuations as sliding distance increased. NCD coating layers were found worn out after long duration and/or high load sliding test, which resulted in the friction coefficient higher than 0.1.
