이산화규소/스티렌의 코어-셀 합성에서 음이온 계면활성제의 영향 (Effect of Anionic Surfactants in Synthesizing Silicone Dioxide/Styrene Core-Shell Polymer)

  • The core-shell composite particles of inorganic/organic were polymerized by using styrene(St) as a shell monomer and potassium persulfate (KPS) as an initiator. We studied the effect of core-shell structure of silicone dioxide/styrene in the presence of an anionic surfactant sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS) and polyoxyethylene alky lether sulfate (EU-S133D). We found that when $SiO_2$ core/PSt shell polymerization was prepared on the surface $SiO_2$ particle, to minimize the coagulation during the shell polymerization, the optimum conditions were at concentration of $2.56{\times}10^{-2}mole/L$ SLS. The structure of core-shell polymer was confirmed by measuring the thermal decomposition of polymer composite using thermogravimetric analyzer and morphology of core-shell polymer particles by transmission electron microscope (TEM).

  • The core-shell latex particles were prepared by sequential emulsion polymerization using alkyl methacrylate as a shell monomer and potassium persulfate (KPS) as an initiator. We study the effects of core-shell structure of calcium carbonate/alkyl methacrlyate in the presence of an anionic surfactant sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS) and polyoxyethylene alkyl ether sulfate (EU-S133D)). The structure of core-shell polymer were investigated by measuring to the thermal decomposition of polymer composite using thermogravimetric analyzer and morphology of latex by transmission electron microscope (TEM).

EPDM계 내열재의 Al(OH)3와 Sb2O3 함량에 따른 난연 효과 연구 (Studies on Incombustibility Improvement of EPDM-based Insulation with Al(OH)3 and Sb2O3)

  • In order to improve incombustibility of EPDM(Ethylene propylene diene monomer)-based rubber, inorganic materials as $Al(OH)_3$ and $Sb_2O_3$ were added. The mechanical and thermal properties have been measured for vulcanized rubber loaded with different concentrations of $Al(OH)_3$ and $Sb_2O_3$. As inorganic material contents increases from 5phr to 30phr, the specific gravity and hardness increase while elongation at break decreases. This study performed incombustibility test and thermal analysis through TGA(Thermogravimetric Analyzer). As a results, incombustible and thermal properties of EPDM-based rubber were improved as $Al(OH)_3$ and $Sb_2O_3$ contents increase.

Effects of Borane-Pyridine Complex on Mesophase Formation from Decant Oil

  • The mesophase pitch was prepared by adding 1~10 wt% of the borane-pyridine complex (BPC) to decant oil. It was prepared in a reactor held at $450^{\circ}C$ for 2 h in $N_2$ atmosphere. The mesophase pitches were analyzed using thermogravimetric analyzer (TGA), melting point apparatus, X-ray diffraction (XRD) and polarized optical microscope. The coke yield, softening point, toluene insoluble, density and content of anisotropy in the mesophase pitches were increased with BPC contents. The XRD profiles did not show any effect of addition of BPC on the formation of mesophase pitch, while the crystallinity of mesophase pitches was increased when the materials were heat treated with boron compound.

Co-combustion of Bituminous Coal with Anthracite in a Down-firing, 200 MW Boiler

  • The combustion tests for Korean anthracite-bituminous coal blend were carried out in the 200 MW utility boiler. The burning characteristics of the blend were studied with a thermogravimetric analyzer (TGA). From the observation of TGA burning profiles, it was found that the presence of bituminous coal in the blend appeared to enhance the reactivity of anthracite in the higher temperature region, indicating certain interactions between the two coals. The plant test showed the boiler operation was reasonably stable with somewhat poor combustion efficiency, and some modification of the combustion environment in the furnace is necessitate for the further stable plant operation.

  • Core-shell polymers of inorganic/organic pair, which are consisted of both core and shell component, were synthesized by sequential emulsion polymerization using ethyl methacrylate (EMA) as a shell monomer and ammonium persulfate as initiator. We found that $CaCO_3$ core should be prepared by adding 2.0wt% SDBS(sodium dodecyl benzene sulfonate), $CaCO_3$ core/PEMA shell polymerization was carried out on the surface of $CaCO_3$ particle during EMA shell polymerization in the core-shell polymer preparation. The structure of core-shell polymer were investigated by measuring the degree on decomposition of $CaCO_3$ by HCI solution, thermal decomposition of polymer composite on thermogravimetric analyzer, glass transition temperature on differential scanning calorimeter, and morphology using scanning electron microscope.

  • PET(polyethylene terephthalate)를 개질하기 위하여 TPA(terephthalic acid)와 EG(ethylene glycol), 그리고 제 3의 단량체로써 pentanediol 이성질체를 사용하였고 EG와 Pentanediol의 양을 변화시키면서 용융 중합법으로 공중합하였다. 공중합물의 구조와 조성을 확인하기 위하여 핵자기공명 스펙트럼(NMR)을 이용하고 DSC와 TGA를 사용하여 구조의 차이와 조성 그리고 고분자쇄의 유연성을 열적 성질로서 고찰하였다.

Study on the Thermal Properties of the Gamma-ray Irradiated EVA/MWCNT Nanocomposites

  • This paper describes the preparation of manufacturing a new nanocomposite material, which involves adding a multi walled carbon nanotube (MWCNT) to improve thermal characteristics of poly (ethylene-co-vinyl acetate) (EVA). We irradiated the prepared nanocomposites with doses of 50 kGy, 100 kGy and 200 kGy at a dose rate of $5kGy\;hr^{-1}$ and examined their thermal stability, activation energy and crosslink level by using a thermogravimetric analyzer (TGA) and gel fraction experiments. TGA results indicated that the samples with a MWCNT had higher Derivative Thermo Gravimetry (DTG) 2nd peak temperatures than those without a MWCNT. And activation energy of the samples reduced as the absorption dose and the MWCNT content increased. Finally, the gel fraction increased rapidly up to 100 kGy as total absorption dose increased, and then the growth rate of all samples was slowly increased from 100 kGy.

  • The experimental work has been carried out for the study of pyrolysis of oil samples used in industrial and utility boilers in Korea. For five oil samples, the characteristics of pyrolysis have been investigated with a thermogravimetric analyzer (TGA), and their kinetic parameters were obtained and compared each other. The rate order of pyrolysis rate for five oils were as follows: by-product fuel oil, pyrolysis oil, diesel, a heavy oil and refined oil. The pyrolysis of refined oil has been successfully described by the three step, first order reaction model while the single step reaction model has been used for other oils. For the reaction temperature over 550 K, the reactivity of refined oil was very poor compared with other oils.
