  • Magnetic and transport properties in the ceramic specimen of L $a_{0.7}$S $r_{0.3}$Fe $O_3$ with orthohombic structure has been investigated. Weak ferromagnetism has been observed in a ceramic sample of L $a_{0.7}$S $r_{0.3}$Fe $O_3$. Large dielectric relaxation of Debye type is observed in paramagnetic states within the temperature range of 130K~200K. From the temperature dependence of the characteristic frequency, we concluded that the elementary process of the dispersion is related to holes hopping between F $e^{3+}$ and F $e^{4+}$ ions. The temperature dependencies of thermoelectric power and Dc conductivity suggest that the charge carrier responsible for the conduction are strongly localized. These experimental results have been interpreted in terms of a hopping process involving small polaron.n.laron.n.

  • We investigate the electrical and thermal transport properties of a sesquicarbide superconductor $La_2C_3$, including electrical resistivity, thermoelectric power, and thermal conductivity. The electrical resistivity exhibits a typical metallic character with a saturation behavior at high temperatures. The thermoelectric power shows a metallic behavior with pronounced phonon-drag effect, comparable with pure metals. The broad peak of the thermal conductivity is observed in the superconducting state, which is rapidly suppressed by magnetic fields. These observations suggest that the electron-phonon scattering is significant in $La_2C_3$, which is relevant with the relatively high-$T_c$ in $La_2C_3$ through strong electron-phonon coupling with low frequency phonon modes.

  • Fe-Si based powders prepare by melting the metals in the composition of FeSi2,.Fe0.95Mn0.05Si2 and Fe0.95Co0.05Si0.2 were used as the starting materials together with a commercial FeSi2 powder to study the effect of oxidation on their thermoelectric properties. The powders were heated at 650~80$0^{\circ}C$ in dired air before forming and sintering at 1190 and 120$0^{\circ}C$ in Ar+7%H2. The microstructure and phases of the annealed specimens were observed using the optical microscopty SEM, EDS and XRD. The thermoelectric properties of the specimens were also measured. The temperature at which Seebe다 coefficient showed the maximum value increased with the degree of oxidation. Electrical conductivity showed a tendency to decrease in the oxidized samples regardless of their compositions. Seebeck coefficient of the specimen showed almost the same value even after oxidation which may be explained by the formation of the discontinuous second phases from impurities in the oxidized specimens.

  • Band convergence is known to be effective in improving thermoelectric performance by increasing the Seebeck coefficient without significantly reducing electrical conductivity. Decoupling of the Seebeck coefficient and electrical conductivity in converged bands is the key requirement. Yet, the degree of decoupling depends on the band parameters of the converging bands. Herein, we report theoretical transport properties of two valence bands as their energy difference changes from 0.25 eV to 0 eV. In order to demonstrate the effect of band parameters in transport, we first conducted calculations for the case where the two bands have the same parameters. Then, we conducted the same calculation by doubling the density-of-states effective mass of one valence band. Given that there are two bands, each band's effective mass was doubled one at a time while the other band's effective mass remained constant. We found that the decoupling was strongest when the bands participating in convergence had the same band parameters.

  • Transparent Conductive Oxide (TCO), especially Indium Tin Oxide (ITO) films are almost prepared by DC magnetron sputtering because of the advantage of obtaining homogeneous large area coatings with high reproducibility. The purpose of this report is describe a detailed investigation of key factors dominating electrical and structural properties of sputtered ITO films. It was confirmed that crystallinity and electrical properties of ITO films were strongly depend on the sputtering pressure and kinetic energy of sputtered particles which are expected to have a close relation with the transport processes between target and substrate. And also, nodule formation on the ITO target was suppressed by both $CaCO_3$ addition and decreasing micro-pore in the target. On the other hand, we focused on the characteristics of amorphous TCO film to use as transparent electrode for various applications. To realize high thermoelectric performance, it was tried to control both high electrical conductivity and low thermal conductivity for the amorphous IZO:Sn films.
