The Effect of Thermal Annealing for CuGaSe$_2$ Single Crystal Thin Film Grown by Hot Wall Epitaxy (Hot Wall Epitaxy(HWE)법으로 성장된 CuGaSe$_2$ 단결정 박막 성장의 열처리 효과)

  • A stoichiometric mixture of evaporating materials for $CuGaSe_2$ single crystal am films was prepared from horizontal electric furnace. Using extrapolation method of X-ray diffraction patterns for the polycrystal $CuGaSe_2$, it was found tetragonal structure whose lattice constant $a_0$ and $c_0$ were $5.615\;{\AA}\;and\;11.025\;{\AA}$, respectively. To obtain the single crystal thin films, $CuGaSe_2$ mixed crystal was deposited on thoroughly etched semi-insulating GaAs(100) substrate by the hot wall epitaxy (HWE) system. The source and substrate temperatures were $610^{\circ}C$ and $450^{\circ}C$, respectively, The crystalline structure of the single crystal thin films was investigated by the photoluminescence and double crystal X-ray diffraction (DCXD). The carrier density and mobility of $CuGaSe_2$ single crystal thin films measured with Hall effect by van der Pauw method are $9.24{\times}10^{16}\;cm^{-3}$ and $295\;cm^2/V{\cdot}s$ at 293 K, respectively. The temperature dependence of the energy band gap of the $CuGaSe_2$ obtained from the absorption spectra was well described by the Varshni's relation, $E_g(T)\;:\;1.7998\;eV\;-\;(8.7489\;{\times}\;10^{-4}\;eV/K)T^2(T\;+\;335\;K)$. After the as-grown $CuGaSe_2$ single crystal thin films was annealed in Cu-, Se-, and Ga-atmospheres, the origin of point defects of $CuGaSe_2$ single crystal thin films has been investigated by the photoluminescence(PL) at 10 K. The native defects of $V_{CU}$, $V_{Se}$, $CU_{int}$, and $Se_{int}$, obtained by PL measurements were classified as a donors or accepters type. And we concluded that the heat-treatment in the Cu-atmosphere converted $CuGaSe_2$ single crystal thin films to an optical n-type. Also, we confirmed that Ga in $CuGaSe_2/GaAs$ did not form the native defects because Ga in $CuGaSe_2$ single crystal thin films existed in the form of stable bonds.

  • Sol-gel process applied in this study was carried out by chelation of metal ions and citric acid. From the results of thermal gravimetric analysis and XRD analysis of gel powder obtained through sol-gel and heat treatment, gel powders are mostly amorphous, and crystallize completely at $900^{\circ}C$, and the crystalline structure of YAG increases with increasing calcinations temperature. Since YAG prepared by sol-gel & calcinations process was porous, and the sape and size was irregular and nonuniform, the shape and size of YAG powder had to be controlled. Therefore the effects of organic materials such as ethylene glycol and surfactant on the crystalline structure of YAG powder were investigated. Polyesterification of ethylene glycol and citric acid separated reaction area of metal ions in the solution and decreased the size of YAG primary particles. The addition of Igepal 630 as surfactant formed the droplet in the solution, and increased the size of primary particles which forms the aggregate of YAG In order to obtain monodispersed YAG particles of uniform size, gel powder prepared with organic materials had to be milled before calcination. And milling process was very important for obtaining YAG of uniform size.

  • To obtain the single crystal thin films, $CuInSe_2$, mixed crystal was deposited on thoroughly etched semi-insulating GaAs(100) substrate by the hot wail epitaxy (HWE) system. The temperature dependence of the energy band gap of the CulnSe$_2$ obtained from the absorption spectra was well described by the Varshni's relation E$_g$(T) = 1.1851 eV - ($8.99\times10^{-4}$ ev/K)T$_2$/(T + 153K). After the as-grown $CuInSe_2$ single crystal thin films was annealed in Cu-, Se-, and In-atmospheres the origin of point defects of $CuInSe_2$ single crystal thin films has been investigated by the photoluminescence(PL) at 10 K.   • This study was experimented on accelerated weathering test using salt and freeze-thaw to prove effects of consolidants and consolidation for stone cultural heritage. The samples used four kinds of stones (Gyeongju Namsan Granite, Iksan Granite, Yeongyang Sandstone and Jeongseon Marble) which to distributed by three type of weathering grade (Fresh, Weathered Stone and Highly Weathered Stone) added for thermal treatment. The samples were treated with three consolidants (Wacker OH 100, Remmers KSE 300 and 1T1G), and tested by 500 cycles with freezing-thawing and 50 cycles of salt weathering test. As a results of freezing-thawing test, the crack and destruction occurred from some samples. And total immersed samples maintained effect of consolidation to 200 cycles. Also, The rock particle was fall off and gradually destructed by salts weathering test. The consolidated sample relatively had fewer changes by the weathering than not treated sample. The sprayed sample had not continuous effect on weathering.

Cloning and Characterization of a Novel Mannanase from Paenibacillus sp. BME-14

  • A mannanase gene (man26B) was obtained from a sea bacterium, Paenibacillus sp. BME-14, through the constructed genomic library and inverse PCR. The gene of man26B had an open reading frame of 1,428 bp that encoded a peptide of 475- amino acid residues with a calculated molecular mass of 53 kDa. Man26B possessed two domains, a carbohydrate binding module (CBM) belonging to family 6 and a family 26 catalytic domain (CD) of glycosyl hydrolases, which showed the highest homology to Cel44C of P. polymyxa (60% identity). The optimum pH and temperature for enzymatic activity of Man26B were 4.5 and $60^{\circ}C$, respectively. The activity of Man26B was not affected by $Mg^{2+}$ and $Co^{2+}$, but was inhibited by $Hg^{2+},\;Ca^{2+},\;Cu^{2+},\;Mn^{2+},\;K^+,\;Na^+$, and $\beta$-mercaptoethanol, and slightly enhanced by $Pb^{2+}$ and $Zn^{2+}$. EDTA did not affect the activity of Man26B, which indicates that it does not require divalent ions to function. Man26B showed a high specific activity for LBG and konjac glucomannan, with $K_m,\;V_{max}$, and $k_{cat}$ values of 3.80 mg/ml, 91.70 ${\mu}mol$/min/mg protein, and 77.08/s, respectively, being observed when LBG was the substrate. Furthermore, deletion of the CBM6 domain increased the enzyme stability while enabling it to retain 80% and 60% of its initial activity after treatment at $80^{\circ}C$ and $90^{\circ}C$ for 30 min, respectively. This finding will be useful in industrial applications of Man26B, because of the harsh circumstances associated with such processes.

$M\"{o}ssbauer$ Studies by a Heat Treatment in $CoFe_2O_4$ (열처리에 따른 $CoFe_2O_4$$M\"{o}ssbauer$ 분광학적 연구)

  • The crystallographic and magnetic properties of the ferrimagnetic $CoFe_2O_4$ have been studied by X-ray and Mossbauer measurements. The crystal structure is found to be cubic spinel structure with the lattice constant $a_{0}=8.381{\pm}0.005{\AA}\;and\;a_{0}=8.391{\pm}0.005{\AA}$ for slow-cooled and quenched CoFeZ04' respectively. Mossbauer spectra of $CoFe_2O_4$ have been taken at various temperatures ranging from 13 to 780 K. The isorrer shifts indicate that the valence states of the Fe ions for tetrahedral(A) and octahedral(B) sites have ferric character. Debye temperatures for the A and B sites are found to be ${\theta}_A=734{\pm}5K\;and\;{\theta}_B=248{\pm}5K$ for slow-cooled and ${\theta}_A=531{\pm}5K\;and\;{\theta}_B=197{\pm}5K$ for quenched, respectively. Atomic migration from the A to the B sites starts near 400 K and 350 K for slow-cooled and quenched $CoFe_2O_4$, respectively, am increases rapidly with increasing temperature to such a degree that about 69 % for slow-cooled and 91 % for quenched of the ferric ions on the A sites have rmved over to the B sites at 700 K.

A study on recovery of deep hypothermia in rabbits (토끼에서 초저체온증의 회복에 관한 연구)

  • The studies were carried out to investigate the effect of recovery in rewarming using the esophageal thermal tube in the deep hypothermia($25{\pm}1^{\circ}C$ ; rectal temp) in rabbits. Fifteen rabbits were divided into control group(n=6), peritoneal dialysis group(n=5) irrigated with dialysate at $42{\pm}1^{\circ}C$, and esophageal rewarming group(n=4) perfused with circulating water at $38{\pm}1^{\circ}C$. Rewarming of the rabbits was performed for 5 hours. MAP, HR, RR, esophageal temp, rectal temp, pH, $pCO_2$, $pO_2$, $Na^+$, and $K^+$ were observed. The results obtained in these experiments were summarized as follows : Esophageal rewarming group($38{\pm}1^{\circ}C$) had more effect on esophageal temperature than other groups. Peritoneal dialysis group($42{\pm}1^{\circ}C$) had more effect on rectal temperature and $pO_2$ than other groups. The both groups also had more effects on MAP, HR, RR, and $pCO_2$ than control group. Three groups had no significant effect on pH, $Na^+$, and $K^+$. In conclusion, we found that the simple, safe, and non-invasive esophageal rewarming method had an effect on the treatment of profound hypothermia as well as the peritoneal dialysis method in spite of the temperature difference between the dialysate and the circulating water, and the circulating water at $38{\pm}1^{\circ}C$ for esophageal rewarming also had an effect on the recovery of deep hypothermia.

  • This study was carried out to identify the ecological characters easily changeable with the conditions of temperature and day-length and to ascertain the managable means which can optimize the barley plants to secure the maximae yield and early heading under controlled condition. Yield and yield components were greatly varied with temperature. Especially, effective tiller formation and grain filling of sub-tillers were more favorably affected by thermal treatment than those of main tiller. In thermic response, 'Kangbori' was less susceptible than others, while 'Sacheon #6' showed particular susceptability. The varietal differences of photoperiodic response were recognized on all investigated traits and their degree of response were similar to those with temperature. Among varieties, 'Kangbori' was comparably sensitive on several characters while 'Sacheon #6' displaying low light-sensitivity. The turning point at which heading might be radically stimulated was estimated as about 10.5 hour day-length in 3 tested varieties and above 18 hours of irradiance was considered ineffective for more rapid heading. The condition under which barley varieties may obtain maximal yield and resonably early heading was 15$^{\circ}C$ in temperature and 12 to 15 hours of day-length, regardless of varieties. of day-length, regardless of varieties.

Studies on Expanding Application for the Recycling of Coal Ash in Domestic (국내 석탄재 재활용 확대 방안 연구)

  • Coal ash is generated from coal-fired thermal power plants every year. The remaining quantity of coal ash ends up in the landfills except for the recycled portion, and the existing ash pond capacity is limited almost. Currently, the difficulties are faced in building a new ash treatment plant because of the concerns about the environmental impacts of landfills at individual plant facilities. In terms of minimizing the environmental impact, the recycling and effective uses of coal ash are recognized as urgent issues to be challenged. Accordingly, this study examines the obstacles in expanding the recycling of the coal ash in South Korea and proposes solutions based on the case study analysis. The analysis results are as follows: 1) specific recycling guidelines and standards are required to be established in accordance with the contact medium (soil, ground water, surface water and sea water) and the chemical. 2) by providing the recognition environmentally safe in recycling the coal ash, transparency in establishing the planning stages and active communication with the community through promotion and research are essentially needed. 3) practical support system is required to encourage the power plant companies to use the coal ash as beneficial use.

Effect of Wrapping Treatment on the Dispersion of MWNT in CNT/ABS/SAN Composites (CNT/ABS/SAN계의 분산성에 미치는 MWNT Wrapping 전처리 효과)

  • Carbon nanotubes (CNT) are considered as one of ideal nano-fillers in the field of composites with their excellent electrical, mechanical, and thermal properties. Therefore CNT composites are increasingly used in fabricating conductive materials, structural materials with high strength and low weight, and multifunctional materials. The main problem of the CNT composites is difficulty in the dispersion of CNT in the polymer matrix. In this study multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWNT) were pretreated by the physical process utilizing a wrapping method. After the pretreatment polymer/MWNT nanocomposites were prepared by melt processing. The effect of functionalization MWNT by wrapping with styrene acrylonitrile (SAN) on the mechanical and electrical properties of acrylonitrile butadiene styrene resin (ABS)/MWNT composites was studied by comparing the properties of ABS mixed with the neat MWNT. Electrical and mechanical properties of ABS/MWNT nanocomposites were studied as a function of the functionalization and content of MWNT. The tensile strength of the ABS/MWNT nanocomposites increased, but the impact strength decreased. The polymer wrapping in ABS system has little effect on the improvement of electrical properties.
