  • Transverse stress and longitudinal crack which are induced by temperature difference in box-girder sections and slab of which box-girder is composed have an important effect on endurance and economical efficiency of bridges. The study on longitudinal behavior of bridges which are subject to thermal load is reflected on the design of bridges. But, the study on transverse behavior of bridges has been performed just recently in foreign countries of finding the cause of longitudinal crack and in Korea, has not been tried in spite of large temperature variance due to geographical condition. This study examines temperature distribution feature in box-girder sections and bridge behavior due to thermal load, with measuring temperature distribution and stress of PSC box-girder bridge which is being constructed actually, and investigates appropriateness of design thermal load of highway bridge design code.

  • This paper was to evaluate the influence of kiln process parameter(kiln angle, kiln rotating speed) of lightweight aggregate using waste glass and bottom ash with industrial by-products on thermal conductivity, density, water absorption, fracture load and porosity by response surface analysis. In the results of surface plot and contour plot, it has verified that kiln residence time of lightweight aggregate increase as kiln angle and rotating speed decreases. For this reason, pore size and quantity tend to increase by active reaction of forming agent. It seems to be that increase in pore size and quantity have caused decreasing density, fracture load and thermal conductivity, and increasing water absorption. In conclusion, optimization of kiln process parameter on thermal conductivity, density, water absorption, fracture load and porosity by response surface analysis are kiln angle 2.4646%, kiln rotating speed 40.7089 rpm.

  • The decrease in the summer peak electric load in our country is very important. The government has arranged and implemented a lot of support policies and statutes to decrease the peak electric load. And the ice thermal energy storage system is known as one of the alternatives. The purpose of this paper is to evaluate the efficiency and thermal characteristics of the closed ice thermal energy storage system using screw capsules. The measured thermal energy storage density is about 18.4 USRT-h/m3 (=232.9 MJ/m3), which is higher than 13.0 USRT-h/m3 (=164.6 MJ/m3), a low criterion of normal performance. And The efficiency of the discharging process and the total energy utilization is 96.2% and 2028.4 kcal/kWh respectively.

  • In this study, thermal analysis of a thermal capacitor, which is used to cool the current lead in conduction-cooled superconducting systems, was done. The temperature difference across a thermal capacitor was calculated by using heat conduction equation. Effect of heat load, total thickness, height and length of a thermal capacitor on the temperature difference were show. Using the results in this work, total thickness and heat height of a thermal capacitor can be determined for given heat load and given temperature difference. This work can be used practically in design for every superconduction system using a current lead.

  • This paper investigates the thermal storage performance of the office building which has adopted an air conditioning system with its slab structure as a regenerator. Four cases of the thermal storage performance experiment were conducted. Room air temperatures, floor slab temperatures, temperatures around the air conditioning unit were logged and analyzed. The load handling capacity of the air conditioning unit and the amount of heat stored in the slab were decided from those experiments. Several efficiencies were investigated to evaluate the performance of the thermal storage. The results concluded that the slab as a regenerator is very effective in cutting down peak loads of the office building.

  • The study on the operation characteristics of solar space and water heating system with ground source heat pump (GSHP) as a back-up device was carried out. This system, called solar thermal and geothermal hybrid system (ST/G), was installed at Zero Energy Solar House II (KIER ZeSH-II) in Korea Institute of Energy Research. This ST/G hybrid system was developed to supply all thermal load in a house by renewable energy. The purpose of this study is to find out that this system is optimized and operated normally for the heating load of ZeSH-II. Experiment was continued for seven months, from October to April. The analysis was conducted as followings ; - the contribution of solar thermal system. - the appropriateness of GSHP as a back-up device. - the performance of solar thermal and ground source heat pump system respectively. - the adaptation of thermal peak load - the operation characteristics of hybrid system under different weather conditions. Finally the complementary measures for the system simplification was referred for the commercialization of this hybrid system.

  • Generally, H.V.A.C load capacity in early planning phase can presume with maximum thermal load. Basic data can prove by air conditioning equipment system data analysis at existing building. There are poor and not reliable alternative presentation. In this paper, measured data after use H.V.A.C load calculation K-load program reply choosing standard building and variables simulation. And I founded peak load correlation graph and mode for several kinds of variable and contents of size. I wish that equipment designer is beaconed to produce optimum capacity at building as quantitative through this result.

  • Screw compressor chillers are widely used in refrigeration for capacity over 30 RT. In general, chillers operate under part-load conditions during most of the time. Therefore, information on the characteristics of part-load is very important for better chiller performance and energy economy. In this study, performance tests of screw chiller with economizer using R22 and R407C under part-load conditions have been performed for various secondary fluid temperatures. Adoption of an economizer system increased the cooling capacity and improved COP except for lower part-load condition when economizer volume ratio is 1.01. For the same cooling capacity condition at part-load, COP's of both non-economizer and economizer system showed similar values.

  • The purpose of this study is to apprehend the behavior of exhaust gas flow from gas turbine during part load operation in Heat Recovery Steam Generator. As a first step of this work, internal flow characteristics according to HRSG types were examined by CFD analysis. Next step, tube temperature according to gas turbine 53% and 100% load conditions were calculated by results of CFD and those were compared with temperature data gathered from real plant. Finally, thermal performance due to part load operation was calculated to estimate the influence of heat transfer in superheater. In addition, new type of device is suggested to eliminate the uneven temperature distribution of tubes during part load operation.

  • The domestic needs for larger capability of power sources are increasing to cope with the expanding power load which results from the industrial developments & the progressed life style. In summer, the peak load is mainly due to the non-industrial reasons such as air-conditioners and other cooling equipments. To cover the concentrated peak load in stable, the power transmission lines should be more constructed and efficiently operated. The ampacity design of the underground cable system is generally following international standards such as IEC287, IEC60853 and JCS168 which regards the shape of 100% daily full power loads. It is not so efficient to neglect the real shapes of load curves generally below 60~70% of full load. The dynamic (real time) rating system tends to be used with the measured thermal parameters which make it possible to calculate the maximum ampacity within required periods. In this paper, the CTM(Conductor Temperature Monitoring) which is the base of dynamic rating systems for tunnel environment is proposed by a design of lumped thermal network ($\pi$-type thermal model) and distribution temperature sensor attached configuration, including the estimation results of its performances by load cycle test on 345kV single phase XLPE cable.
