Thermal and mechanical stresses, caused by repetitive start and stop and load fluctuation during long time operation, on winding stator bars are one of the main causes for electrical degradation of insulating materials. To understand the degradation process, we manufactured bar specimens with the same processes that make generator winding stator bars and the specimens were subjected to various degrees of thermal cycling. Measurements of the insulation properties, such as dissipation factor, tip-up and partial discharge, for un-aged specimens and for specimens aged by thermal cycling at 50, 100, 250, 500 and 1000 thermal cycles were performed. Finally all specimens were tested to obtain electrical breakdown voltages. In this paper we present the data and electrical degradation analysis results obtained during this program.
Nanostructured materials are attracting increased interest and application. Exciting perspectives may be offered by electrical insulation. Epoxy/Organoclay nanocomposites may find new and upgraded applications in the electrical industry, replacing conventional insulation to provide improved performances in electric power apparatus, e.g, high voltage motor/generator stator winding insulation, dry mold transformer, etc. This paper shows that electrical and thermal properties of epoxy/organoclay nanocomposites insulating materials for dsc, dielectric constant, I-V characteristics, breakdown volatge, can improve significantly with respect to the basic, virgin materials.
Recently, inorganic-organic hybrid materials have attracted much attention not only for their excellent thermal conductivity but also for their flame retardant properties. In this study, the properties of organic-inorganic hybrid insulating materials using inorganic fillers and polyurethane foam with different foaming conditions have been investigated. The addition of 1.5 wt% water to polyurethane as foaming agent shows the best foaming properties. The pore size was decreased in the foaming body with increasing of the $CaCO_3$ addition. The apparent density and thermal conductivity were increased by increasing the $CaCO_3$ addition. With an increasing amount of $CaCO_3$ powder, the flame retardant property is improved, but the properties of thermal conductivity and apparent density tend to decrease. When the addition of fine particles of $CaCO_3$, the apparent density and thermal conductivity were increased and, also, with the addition of coarse particles over $45{\mu}m$ in size, the apparent density and thermal conductivity were increased as well. In this study, the adding of $CaCO_3$ with average particle size of $27{\mu}m$ led to the lowest thermal conductivity and apparent density. After evaluation with different inorganic fillers, $Mg(OH)_2$ showed the highest thermal conductivity; on the other hand, $CaCO_3$ showed the lowest thermal conductivity.

These materials in architecturally glass or metal have weaknesses such as inadequate insulating quality, combustibility and toxic gases in fires substance. However, Autoclaved Lightweight Concrete(ALC) has excellent thermal insulation properties and seem to possess the superb insulating quality as substitute of existing exterior materials. This research is to compare experimentally to the kind of the strength properties of ALC materials which mixed with blast furnace slag pounder and silica fume. For the purpose of increasing the strength, the plastic states of ALC evaluate the physical characteristics as microstructure and strength according to various specific gravity. According to the quicklime quantity the compressive strength is proportionate depend on the absolute dried specific gravity. When not putting in 10% quicklime, the compressive strength appeared most lowly with 14.0MPa. When putting in the quicklime, the strength appeared higher with 15.1MPa. And strength of specimen containing 2.25% silica fume is 15.6MPa increased 10.3% than reference specimen 14.0MPa.
There is a big move to build zero-energy buildings in the form of passive houses that reduce energy waste worldwide. Korea has set a goal of reducing its greenhouse gas emissions by 37% by 2030 through the activation of green buildings, such as strengthening the energy levels of new buildings and improving the energy efficiency of existing buildings. The use of insulation with high insulation performance is one of the key technologies to realize this, and vacuum insulation is the next generation insulation that blocks the energy flow of the building. In this study, we measured the bonding structure of dry and wet processing glass fiber core materials and compared the insulation performance of vacuum insulation panel. In addition, the insulation performance of vacuum insulation panel was measured according to the thickness of the laminated core. It can be confirmed that the lamination structure of the core and the lamination thickness are important factors for the heat insulating performance of the vacuum insulating panel.
This paper introduces the findings of a detailed study on breakdown voltage strength under DC voltage and the development of HVDC cable. Recently, Nano-fillers are attracting attentions of many researchers and engineers, since they seem to bring higher potentials for advancement of electrical insulating properties as nano-composites. Additives and fillers are often adopted to polymeric materials for improving insulating and machanical properties. We have improved the polymer composition and developed a new insulation material for HVDC cable. Each specimen blended at LDPE1 to antioxidant, LDPE2 to antioxidant, pure XLPE was manufactured respectively. The insulation performances of the proposed insulator were compared with specimens blended at nano powders. DC breakdown strength of LDPE1 specimen at 90[$^{\circ}C$] was higher than other specimens. The experimental results show that polar groups intorduced in moleculars chains of blended specimen plays an important role in enhancement of thermal conductivity.
Curtain-wall systems have been widely applied to buildings because of their lightweight and constructability characteristics. However, as curtain-wall systems include many building materials, vapor barriers can become damaged and condensation can occur. Due to the material properties of stone curtain-walls, the external appearance and structure of a building could be damaged and the insulating performance of the curtain-wall could be worse. Natural ventilation using an air cavity in a curtain-wall is expected to be effective for the prevention of condensation in inner walls and for the reduction of building cooling energy use in the summer. The purpose of this experimental study is to analyze the influence of a ventilated cavity on the insulating performance of a curtain-wall and the ventilated cavity depth and ratio of top opening needed to prevent condensation in a curtain-wall.
Among the various factors influencing the service life of the electric equipment, the performance of dielectric insulation materials has an important role to determine their whole service life. In order to determine the degradation of insulating materials immersed in extremely low temperature media such as liquid nitrogen, the abrupt temperature change from cryogenic to normal room temperature should be considered. But the assessments of low-temperature aging test method for the dielectric materials immersed in liquid nitrogen considering these conditions were not fully reported. Therefore, for the fundamental step to establish the suitable degradation test methods for cryogenic dielectric materials, we focused on the evaluation of ageing test methods for dielectric materials exposed to low temperature environments considering thermal shock by cool-down and warm up test.
