The survival rate and thermal, crystal, and physicochemical properties of starches in chinese yam tubers irradiated to proton beam were determined. Survival rate was decreased with increased proton beam irradiation. Amylose content of D. opposita starches from different proton beam ranged from 13.2% to 17.8%. D. opposita starch at 5 Gy showed the highest ${\Delta}H_{gel}$ values (12.0 J/g) while D. opposita starch at 25 Gy showed the lowest values (10.1 J/g). Several parameters such as PKV (peak viscosity), HPV (Hot peak viscosity) and CPV (Cooling peak viscosity) decreased with the increase in irradiation dose. The degrees of crystallinity of the D. opposita starches at 5, 10, 15, 20 and 25 Gy were 37.2, 38.3, 38.9, 39.2 and 39.9%, respectively. It might be deduced that proton beam irradiation causes changes of starch, especially at high dose irradiation.
Ploycrystalline $Pb(Zr_{0.5},Ti_{0.5))O_3$ and $BaTiO_3$ powder were prepared by sol-gel process. The alumina substrate were sintered at $1400^{\circ}C$ with bottom electrode of Pt for 2 hours. The Pb(Zr0.5,Ti0.5)O3 / BaTiO3 multilayered thick films with laminating times were fabricated on alumina substrate by screening printing method. The obtained thick films were sintered at $800^{\circ}C$ with upper electrode of Ag paste for 1 hour. Structural properties of Pb(Zr0.5,Ti0.5)O3 / BaTiO3 multilayered thick films were investigated. As a result of the Differential Thermal Analysis(DTA) of Pb(Zr0.5,Ti0.5)O3, exothermic peak was observed at around 650 $^{\circ}C$. The X-ray diffraction (XRD) patterns indicated that BaTiO3 and Pb(Zr0.5,Ti0.5)O3 phases and porosities were formed in the interface of Pb(Zr0.5,Ti0.5)O3 / BaTiO3multilayered thick films.

A series of mesoporous silicalites was synthesized using different compositions of tetraethylorthosilicate and methyltriethoxysilane (MTES) as the silica source. Cetyltrimethylammonium bromide was used as the organic template. Their detailed pore structures were investigated by transmission electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, and N2 adsorption method. The thermal properties of these silicalites were studied by thermogravimetric analysis. The increased amount of MTES destroyed mesoporous channels and reduced pore sizes from 3.4 nm to 2.8 nm in calcined silicalites. The calcined silicalite transformed completely into an amorphous state at 30% MTES loading. Methyl pending groups of MTES hindered the structural ordering of ≡Si-O- frameworks, resulting in an amorphous structure. This was caused by the insufficient formation of supramolecular assembly with the organic template. No capillary condensation step was found in MS 7/3 silicalite. The other capillary condensation steps shifted toward the lower relative pressure with increasing MTES content, indicating the reduction of pore sizes.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the characteristics of lignin fractionated from waste wood (WW) using a two-step process of ethanol organosolv pretreatment followed by ultrafiltration with membranes of different molecular weight cut-offs (1, 5 and 20 kDa). The different permeates obtained were characterized by fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and gel permeation chromatography (GPC). The analysis by FT-IR and NMR of these lignins showed that the lignin core was successfully separated from WW. TGA curves confirmed that the thermal properties of lignin fractionated by ultrafiltration were almost identical to each other. The results from GPC confirmed that fractionating of lignin was achieved by ultrafiltration. For the membrane fractionation process, values of molecular weight decreased as the cut-offs used to obtain the fractions became smaller. As a result, fractionating lignin by a two-step process allowed separating different fractions of lignin of different molecular weights yielded high purity without interference from existing pollutants in WW. The two-step process offers the possibility of using fractionated WW as an untapped source of lignin.
We reported a new method to enhance the photoluminescence (PL) properties of $Eu^{3+}$ ions doped $Gd_2Mo_4O_{15}$ phosphors via cation substitution. With the aid of conventional sol-gel method, a series of $Eu^{3+}$ ions doped $Gd_{2(1-x)}Y_{2x}Mo_4O_{15}$ phosphors were prepared. The prepared samples emitted red light when excited at 393 nm. Moreover, when part of the $Gd^{3+}$ ions was substituted by the $Y^{3+}$ ions, the PL emission intensity of the studied samples was enhanced and the optimal doping concentration for $Y^{3+}$ ions was 30 mol%. The calculated CIE coordinate (0.663,0.337) was situated in the red region. Furthermore, the thermal quenching behaviors of the synthesized $Eu^{3+}$ ions doped $Gd_{2(1-x)}Y_{2x}Mo_4O_{15}$ phosphors were studied. At last, we also packaged a red-emitting light-emitting diode device by integrating the obtained phosphors and a near-ultraviolet chip to verify the applications of the $Eu^{3+}$ ions doped $Gd_{2(1-x)}Y_{2x}Mo_4O_{15}$ phosphors for indoor lighting.
A restriction endonuclease, PsyI, has been isolated from Pseudomonas syringae pv. pha- seolicola, and its catalytic properties have been studied. This enzyme was purified through strepto- mycin sulfate and ammonium sulfate fractionation, phosphocellulose Pll, DEAE-cellulose, hydroxy- apatite and Sephadex G-100 column chromatography. It's molecular weight was about 50,000 dalton as determined by 7.5% polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis containing 0.1% SDS. In catalytic proper- ties, PsyI shows stable at wide ranges of pH between 7.0 and 10.0, of temperature between 30$\circ$C and 37$\circ$C, and its thermal stability is between 25$\circ$C, and 45$\circ$C, at the presence Of 10 mM MgCl$_{2}$-PsyI essentially require Na salt for enzyme reaction, is rather inhibited in the high Na salt concent- ration. The presence of 2-mercaptoethanol is absolutely required for the enzyme activity. This endonuclease, PsyI was determined to be an isoschizomer of SalI from the results of the restriction mapping and DNA sequencing.
Effects of protein concentration, ionic strength, pH, and temperature range on the heat-induced denaturation of salt soluble protein extracted from spent layer meat were investigated. Viscosity of salt soluble protein heated at 65$^{\circ}C$ for 30 min began to increase sharply above 7 mg/ml of breast protein concentration, and above 21 mg/ml of leg protein concentration, respectively. Both turbidity and viscosity showed the highest value in cooked protein solution with pH 6.0 and 1% NaCl. The turbidity of salt soluble protein started to increase continuously from 40$^{\circ}C$ to 80$^{\circ}C$. The viscosity increased rapidly from 45$^{\circ}C$ to 60$^{\circ}C$ in breast protein, and increased from 50$^{\circ}C$ to 55$^{\circ}C$ in leg protein, respectively, and then kept relatively constant. Breast protein had higher viscosity than leg protein during heat-induced gelation. Therefore, salt soluble protein from spent layer meat was associated with denatured protein (turbidity change) prior to gelation (viscosity change) during heating. Breast protein showed lower thermal transition temperature, and better gel formation than leg protein during heating.

A thermolabile alkaline phosphatase has been purified through steps of osmotic shock, ammonium sulfate salting-out, and DAEA-cellulose chromatography from the cultured broth of the marine Vibrio sp. M-96 strain. The optimal temperature for the enzyme activity was 35$\circ$C. The optimal pH was pH11.0, and the range of pHstability was pH10.4 to 12.0. Thermal inactivation occured within 6 mintes at 60$\circ$C. The enzyme was considerably inactivated by 0.1mM concentrations of Hg$^{2+}$, Ni$^{2+}$ and Zn$^{2+}$, whereas activated up to 234% by 1mM of Mn$^{2+}$. The activation energy and deactivation energy by the Arrhenius equation were 4.02 Kcal/mol and 9.098 Kcal/mol, respectively. The Km and Vmax values of the enzyme for p-introphenylphosphate were found to be 0.0465mM and 0.001334mM/min, respectively. Active form of the enzyme had a molecular weight of 57,000 dalton determined by the Sephadex G-200 gel filtration method.

The present work was aimed to show the possibility of using hydrogel (acrylic/boric acid) for evaluation of the neutron radiation shielding. The influence of acrylic acid concentration, different gamma doses and relative contents of boric acid were studied. The physical properties and the thermomechanical stability of the studied samples were investigated. The shielding property of the composite for neutron was tested by Pu-Be neutron source (5 Ci) under room temperature. The neutron fluence rates and gamma fluxes were measured using a stilbene organic scintillator. The macroscopic effective removal cross-section ΣR (cm-1) of fast neutrons and total attenuation coefficient μ (cm-1) of gamma rays has been studied experimentally. The transmission parameters, the relaxation length (??) and the half-value layer (HVL) were obtained. The obtained results indicated that the addition of boric acid to acrylic acid tends to increase the macroscopic effective removal cross-section ΣR (cm-1) to 0.141 compared to 0.094 of ordinary concrete.
