The study is based on a questionnaie about Sasang constitution and clothing value. The questionnarie was answered by 519 women. The data ere collected from September 12 to September 30, 1994 and analyzed by cluster analysis correlation analysis ANOVA and fac-tor analysis using SAS. The Findings of this study are as follows: 1. The women were classfied in to 3 clusters by cluster analysis :Sp-Yaung-In type (30.8%) Tae-Em-In type (40.7%) So-em-in(28.5%). 2. Correlations between SO-Yaug In type and each of clothing values showed all signifi-cant and specially social value showed high corelation(0.57163) 3. In Tae-Em-In type all correlations showed significant and esocial value showed the highest correlation of all correlations. 4. In So-Em-In type there was no corre-lation inpolitical value and the order of cloth-ing values showing high correlation was theor-etical social economic and religious value. 5. The aesthetic valu among and consti-tution types showed the lowest correlation of all correlation. By means of the about study results we may know that all women belong to three types think social value of the more important value than any other in clothing value. This is because grown-up women in korea prefer yet clothing of the harmonic and similar type to this of individual type.

  • Objective : We compare the nurturing theories of Between the Nurturing Theory of Dogyogwonseonseo(道敎勸善書) JeungjungGyeongsinrok(增訂敬信錄), Gyeongsinrokeonseok(敬信錄諺釋), Taisanggauempyeondosul(太上感應篇圖說) and Guahwajonsin(過化存神) vs Dongui-Susebowon-Sasang-Chobongwon(東醫壽世保元四象草本卷) and Dongui-Susebowon(東醫壽世保元) of Lee-Jema. And the influences that Dogyogwonseonseo had on Nurturing Theory of Lee-Jema. Method : We sort out the identical or similar vocabularies and abstract the important concepts from all four kinds of Dogyogwonseonseo and two kinds of Lee-Jema's books mentioned above and compare them respectively. The prehistories of vocabularies and concepts needed such as Bok(福, good fortune) and Su (壽, longevity) will be traced. And the synchronic understanding needed such as 'Good deed leads to longevity and good fortune whereas evil deed leads to short life' in late Choseon dynasty will be surveyed by investigating the controversy of the time. Results : The Nurturing Theory of Lee-Jema was influenced by all four kinds of Dogyogwonseonseo mentioned above. We can ascertain the influence from Lee-Jema's Concept of Myeong(命), Nurturing Life through everyday life, 'Good deed leads to longevity and good fortune whereas evil deed leads to short life', deceiving mind(詐心), betraying mind(欺負心) and the jealousy of Man and Woman. Conclusion : The influences Dogyogwonseonseo had on Lee-Jema's nurturing theory were key concept words such as Myeong(命), the ways of thinking like 'Good deed leads to longevity and good fortune whereas evil deed leads to short life' and vocabularies such as deceiving mind(詐心).

  • 1. Purpose This Study is intended to catch the expasion of theory of Sasang Constitutional Medicine through comparision DongyiSooseBowon Chopanbon with DongyiSooseBowon Chobonguen and DongyiSooseBowon Gabobon. 2. Method I compared the Soeumin's prescriptions and medications of DongyiSooseBowon Chopanbon with those of DongyiSooseBowon Chobonguen and DongyiSooseBowon Gabobon. 3. Result and conclusion 1. The Soeumin's meducations used in the prescriptions of chobonguen are 44 and those of Gabobon are 47, those of chopanbon are 46 2. Soeumin;s Medications of the same kind in Chobonguen's precriptions and Gabobon's and Chopanbon's are twenty-five;like Daejo(大棗), Jinpi(陳皮), Gamcho(甘草), etc. and these medications are the princople in soeumin's disease. 3. Soeumin's Prescriptions of the same name in Chobonguen's prescriptions and Gabobon's and Chopanbon's are two;Gwakhanggeunggisan(藿香精氣散) and Bogungikgitang(補中益氣湯). These two prescriptions are correspond to the prescriptions those were recorded in Song-won-myuong Soeumin's princple prescription of experience(宋元明 少陰人經驗行用要藥). 4. Soeumin's Prescriptions of the same name in Chobonguen's precriptions and Gabobon's are two;Gwakhanggeunggisan(藿香精氣散) and Bogungikgitang(補中益氣湯). Chobonguen's precriptions were composed of Old prescriptions(古方) except the medications those were considered of wrong Sang Constitutional medications. 5. Soeumin's Prescriptions of the same name in Gabobon's prescriptions and Chopanbon's are nine and except Padudan(巴豆丹) have differences in the kind of medications and quantites. This fact shows that Dongmu(東武) roform the Sasnag Constitutional prescriptions continuously. 6. As this, Dongmu(東武) selected Sasang Constitutional prescription and medication in detail as he has the more experince of treatment.

  • 1. Objective : The object of this thesis is to find the basis of Constitution assignment of Nogeun(蘆根, Phragmites communis Trin.) used to the medication for Taeyangin. Also, it is to recognize what kind of Constitution of Mogeun(茅根, Imperata cylindrica var. koenigii) is needed to be assigned to. 2. Methods "Dongyi Soose Bowon", 'SinchukBon', 'ChobonKwun', other related Sasang Constitutional Medicine(SCM) books, herbal medicine books such as "Boncho Kangmok", and etc. were compared and researched. 3. Results & Conclusions : 1) Nogeun(蘆根) lowers Qi and harmonizes the body. Because of the effect of lowering soar-Qi(氣), it used to treat the symptoms of Taeyangin's vomiting(噎膈反胃, Stomach reflux due to dysphagia-occlusion). Also Yuksoo Nogeun(逆水蘆恨, Reed growing near the river in low scream) is the basis of considering inhale-gathering Qi effect as a major indication of Nogeun. 2) The theory of classifying White Mogeun as a Tae-eumin Medicinal is based on the effect of Radiating while classifying White Mogeun as a Taeyangin Medicinal is based on the effect of treating stomach reflux(反胃). But both basis are not conclusive and thus requires further study. 3) In "Sasang Geumge Bibang", the first text ever to write only about separate medicinals and Classified Foods (食物類) of each constitution, there were examples of Nogeun and Mogeun's usage based on other pre-existing medical texts. 4) Because White Mogeun is classified as Tae-yangin medication in "Dongmu Yugo", but classified as a Taeeumin's medication in "Dongyi Soose Bowon" 'ChobonKwun' and "Sasang Geumge Bibang", there remains a controversy.

In this research, the Sim(心) has been modified within a concept of Early Buddhism and You-sic in order to have medical logicality. 2. Since the study deep into Sim(心) within Confucianism has various aspects, each Confucian's theory argument or era. We limited the significance of the Sim(心) to be associated with the category of the Sim(心) in Sasang Constitutional Medicine which is a product of practical Confucianism. 3. The criteria of debate for the Sim(心) is based on the "Hwang-je-nae-gyoung", because "Hwang-je-nae-gyoung" is founded to definite the term regarding spirit or mind in Oriental medicine Results : 1. "Hwang-je-nae-gyoung" which came from thought of You-Sic, thought of Taoism, and Early Buddhism becomes the theoretical basis for the Sim(心) in Buddhism Medicine, Sasang Constitutional Medicine, and Oriental Medicine. 2. The Sim(心) in the mind psychology of Buddhism Medicine, Sasang Constitutional Medicine, and Oriental Medicine has active aspects. but the visual thing // There are visual aspects being contrasted with 'Sim(心)' of mind psychology and aspects of activity in Buddhism medicine, Sasang constitutional Medicine and Oriental Medicine; which are 'Hrd', 'Hrdaya', 'four-large' 'five base', 'chin, chest, navel and abdomen', 'head, shoulder, waist and buttocks' consisting 'the body', and the heart and 'four interorgans' from the study of symbolical interorgans). In Buddhism Medicine, Sim(心)'s Epistemology is the most extensively understood fact about 'Sim(心)', and for Sasang Constitutional Medicine and Oriental Medicine. • 1. Objectives The purpose of this study lies on the objectification of the Sasang Constitutional diagnosis. This study was analyzing the constitutional characteristic of adult men voices by PSSC-2004. 2. Methods The study was conducted on the subjects inputted /a/ 2.5-3 sec of 231 adult men voices to PSSC-2004. The statistical analyses are applied to three groups: total group, under 55 year-old group, over 55 year-old group. The group of total 231 was composed with 5 Taeyangins, 32 Soyangins, 102 Taeumins and 92 Soeumins. The under 55 years old group was composed with 4 Taeyangins, 23 Soyangins, 83 Taeumins and 77 Soeumins. The over 55 year-old group was composed with 1 Taeyangin, 9 Soyangins, 19 Taeumins and 15 Soeumins. 3. Results 1) In total group, the Soeumin's mean value of center pitch(4)$(1,000{\sim}2,000Hz)$ was significantly high compared with the others (P=0.034). 2) In total group, the Soeumin's group 3 APQ was significantly low compared with the others (P=0.042). 3) In under 55 year-old group, the Soeumin's center value of center pitch 4$(1,000{\sim}2,000Hz)$ was significantly high compared with the others (P=0.025) 4) In over 55 year-old group, no statistical significance was found between the Taeyangin, Soyangin, Taeumin and Soeumin. 4. Conclusions In under 55 year-old group, Soeumin's voice showed high pitched sound (clearness) at the low frequency (1000-2000Hz). In over 55 year-old group, there is no significant differences. This fits in with that 'Soeumin's voice is 'Yu-tone' born by 'Shang-tone', very short and high.' 'Yu-tone' corresponds to 'Ra' and witch is highest among Gong, Shang, Gao, Chi and Yu. This is related with the appearance that the Soeumin's voice is weak, thin and high tone. Therefore it is supposed that Soeumin adult men's voices are thick, and there are vibrations of the ending. It is accepted one of the Soeumin's characters like as a mild tremor of limbs and deep breath caused by Soeumin's Qi-deficiency. This outcome accords with the theory that Soeumin's Qi is less than the Other constitutions.

  • Objectives : This study was designed to evaluate the effect of acupuncture with various scales on symptoms of Idiopathic Parkinson's disease. Methods: Subjects were voluntarily recruited through newspapers and internet advertisement. All the subjects were confirmed as idiopathic parkinson's disease by a neurologist. The acupuncture therapy was performed twice a week for 4 weeks by oriental medical doctor at Kyung-hee University hospital. Patients were randomly assigned to three groups : sham acupuncture group, acupuncture treatment group and Sasang-Constitution acupuncture treatment group. Acupun cture points used in acupuncture treatment group were $GB_{34}$, $LR_3$, and $ST_{36}$, which were proven to be effective in rat Parkinson's disease study. Acupuncture points used in sham treatment were non-acupoints near $GB_{34}$, $LR_3$, and $ST_{36}$. In Sasang-Constitution acupuncture treatment, we classfied Sasang constitution of patients by QSCCII. Acupuncture was applied based on theory of Korean medicine. The patient's symptoms were assessed at baseline and after 4 weeks of treatment by one evaluator with Unified Kingdom Parkinson's Disease Rating Scale (UPDRS), modified Hoehn-Yahr(H-Y) stage, and Schwab & England activ ity of daily living and freezing of gait questionnaire (FOGQ). Results : The results were as follows ; 1. UPDRS IV score differences between sham group and Sasang-Constitution acupuncture treatment were statistically significant(p=0.001). 2. UPDRS total score differences between Sasang-Constitution acupuncture treatment and acupuncture treatment group, Sasang-Constitution acupuncture treatment and sham group were statistically significant(p=0.041, p=0.014). 5. FOGQ score differences between Sasang-Constitution acupuncture treatment and acupuncture treatment group, Sasang-Constitution acupuncture treatment and sham group were statistically significant(p=0.001, p=0.001). Conclusion : The results suggest Sasang-Constitution acupuncture treatment can be applicable to improve symptoms in patients with idiopathic Parkinson's disease.

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study was to examine the psychological factors of Sasang constitutions which are classified by QSCC II(Questionnaire for Sasang Constitution Classification II) using major personality tests which are based on western psychological theory. Methods: 151 college students completed the MMPI-2, MBTI, NEO-PI-R, TCI-RS, and QSCC II. The data were analyzed by ANOVA and post hoc testing to find which personality scale significantly differentiated each Sasang constitution style. Results: MMPI-2, scale 2(D), 5(Mf), 7(Pt), 0(Si) and introversion scale(INTR) showed significant differences between Soeumin and Soyangin. Also, on the dimension of introversion-extraversion in MBTI, and neuroticism(N) and extraversion(E) in NEO-PI-R, there were differences between Soeumin and the other two constitutions(Soyangin and Taeeumin). Finally, in TCI-RS, there were differences between Soeumin and Soyangin on the scale of novelty seeking(NS) and reward dependence(RD), and with regards to the harm avoidance scale(HA), Soeumin received a higher score than any other constitutions. Conclusions: The analysis demonstrates that the classification of QSCC II is most consistent between Soeumin and Soyangin across 4 major personality tests.

  • Background: Oriental lifestyle for treating diseases has been developed and well-accepted for a long time among Koreans. Sasang Constitution theory, originated from Korean traditional medicine, suggests that medication treatment should be differentiated by each patient's body classification (So-yang [SY], So-eum [SE], Tae-yang [TY], and Tae-eum [TE]), in contrary to western medicine's theory that medication should be applied equally by disease indication without such classification. However, the pharmacotherapeutic outcomes of these theories have not been compared to date. In this study, we aimed to compare the two theories by evaluating blood pressure (BP), which is lowered as a therapeutic outcome, among hypertensive patients taking angiotensin II receptor blockers (ARBs) or calcium channel blockers (CCBs), two most commonly used antihypertensive classes in Korea. Methods: From April 2006 to June 2012, we retrospectively collected data on hypertensive patients with Sasang Constitution classification at Kyunghee University Hospital at Gangdong, one of the East-West collaborative medical centers in Korea. We collected information on age, gender, underlying diseases, antihypertensive drugs (ARB, CCB, ARB+CCB), and BP by reviewing the electronic medical records. We excluded patients with missing blood pressure at baseline or follow-up, or those who had a change in their antihypertensive drug class during follow-up. Results: We selected a total of 573 patients (SY: 165, SE: 158, TY: 0, TE: 250). Baseline BPs were on average 139.0/82.0 mmHg for SY, 137.8/78.5 mmHg for SE, and 138.7/79.2 mmHg for TE. In all three groups, CCBs were the most prescribed, followed by combination therapy with ARB+CCB, then ARBs. BP reduction after 1 month of initial medication was significantly different among the drug classes, but not in Sasang constitutional classification (ARB [SY: -12.4/-4.7, SE: -12.3/-2.5, TE: -8.6/-1.8], CCB [SY: -12.3/-5.4, SE: -13.0/-2.3, TE: -10.8/-6.0], ARB+CCB [SY: -15.6/-6.7, SE: -18.4/-8.1, TE: -20.2/-6.7], drug [$P{\leq}0.05$/P>0.05], constitutional type [P>0.05/P>0.05]). Conclusion: We observed significant differences in reduction of blood pressure by classes of drugs (ARB+CCB>CCB>ARB) but not by Sasang constitutional classification. Therefore, current approach of antihypertensive pharmacotherapy assisted by Western medicine is appropriate for treatment of hypertension. However, further larger scale or prospective studies are required in order to confirm these results.
