  • Filament winding process is a comparatively simple operation in which continuous reinforcements in the form of roving are wound over a rotating mandrel. And it is now well established as a versatile method for storage tanks and pipe for the chemical and other industries. In this study, tensile strength of a filament wound ring specimens were evaluated by split disk test fixture and dress disk test fixture. The results obtained from experiments were compared with the theoretical values obtained by the rule of mixtures in composites . And the purpose of this paper is the suggestion of an appropriate test method for the evaluation of tensile properties of filament wound structures. The tensile strength of a ring specimen tested by the dress disk test showed better agreement with the theoretical values than that of a ring specimen tested by the split disk test because the stress concentration in edges of a split disk test fixture is more severe than that of dress disk test fixture. The results showed that the tensile strength of a ring specimen was influenced by the geometry of test fixture, the continuity of fibers, fiber-tension, fiber-end and stress concentration in specimen.

  • In this study, tensile strength and modulus were evaluated for a filament wound ring specimen by split disk test and compared with the theoretical values obtained by the rule of mixtures. The circumferentially wound ring specimens were prepared from 4 types of material systems. The results showed that the measured strengths of the composite systems were considerably lower than the theoretical values due to the local bending stresses around the split disk edges. for the measurement of elastic moduli of the filament wound ring specimens, the effect of friction on the strain of the ring must be taken into account. But the effect of friction between the split disk fixture and the ring specimen can be eliminated by averaging the moduli for loading and unloading state with maintaining the same crosshead rates. The measured elastic moduli of ring specimens showed very good agreement with the theoretical values.

  • An experimental research was conducted to investigate the strength of biaxially loaded short and slender reinforced concrete columns with high strength concrete. In the study, square and L-shaped section reinforced concrete columns were constructed and tested to obtain the load-deformation behaviour and strength of columns. The test results of column specimens were analysed with a theoretical method based on the fiber element technique. The theoretical ultimate strength capacities and the test results of column specimens have been compared and discussed in the paper. Besides this, observed failure mode and experimental and theoretical load-lateral deflection behaviour of the column specimens are presented.

  • The quasi static test of the steel reinforced concrete (SRC) bridge piers and rigid frame arch bridge structure with SRC piers was conducted in the laboratory, and the seismic performance of SRC piers was compared with that of reinforced concrete (RC) bridge piers. In the test, the failure process, the failure mechanism, hysteretic curves, skeleton curves, ductility coefficient, stiffness degradation curves and the energy dissipation curves were analyzed. According to the $M-{\Phi}$ relationship of fiber section, the three-wire type theoretical skeleton curve of the lateral force and the pier top displacement was proposed, and the theoretical skeleton curves are well consistent with the experimental curves. Based on the theoretical model, the effects of the concrete strength, axial compression ratio, slenderness ratio, reinforcement ratio, and the stiffness ratio of arch to pier on the skeleton curve were analyzed.

  • The self-centering prestressed concrete (SCPC) bridge pier with external dissipators is a novel structure, aiming at reducing residual deformation and facilitating the post-earthquake repair. This paper presents the configuration and mechanical behaviors of the pier. A theoretical model for the lateral force-displacement relationship under cyclic loading is developed. The proposed model comprises an iterative procedure which describes the deformation of dissipators under different conditions. Equations of pier stiffness after gap opening, as well as the equivalent viscous damping ratio, etc., are derived based on the proposed model. Existing cyclic load test results were used to validate the proposed model, and good agreement is observed between the analytical and test results.

이동하중에 의한 지중응력 해석 (The Interpretation on Underground Stress of Soil Layer Subjected to Moving Repeated Loads)

  • 본 연구는 모형실험을 통하여 지중응력 분포상태를 기존의 Boussinesque, Westergaard, K$\"{o}$ogler, Newmark의 이론식값과 Model Test에 의한 실험값을 비교 검토하였다. 본 모형실험 결과 깊이별 재하하중에 의한 지중응력의 변화는 Westergaard이론과 가장 유사하게 나타났으며, 패하하중의 증가에 따라 지중응력은 거의 직선적으로 증가하는 경향을 보였고, 이론식과 비교하면 깊이 15cm 까지는 크게 나타났으나 그 이하의 깊이에서는 이론식 보다 작아지는 경향이 나타났다. 재하하중(${\sigma}r$)과 지중응력$\Delta\sigma$)의 상관관계식은 $\Delta\sigma\;=\; 0.009\cdot{\sigma}r-0.1$(깊이 60cm)로 나타났다.

  • 정밀한 기초설계를 위하여 지중연직응력분포를 파악하는 것은 중요하다. 본 연구에서는 지표면 재하에 의한 사질토지반의 지중연직응력 증가량에 대한 Boussinesq의 이론을 고찰하기 위하여 일련의 실내모형시험을 수행하였으며 Boussinesq의 이론값을 실측값과 비교하였다. Boussinesq의 이론값은 깊이에 관계없이 기초판 하부에서는 실측값보다 작았다 기초판의 바깥부분에서는 기초폭의 1.0배의 깊이에서는 이론값은 실측값보다 컸으나 기초폭의 2.0배 및 3.0배의 깊이에서는 이론값과 실측값이 거의 비슷해지는 경향이었다. 가해진 단위면적당 하중에 대한 지중연직응력은 하중이 증가함에 따라 감소하였다. 이러한 경향들은 상대밀도나 기초폭에 관계없이 나타났다. Boussinesq의 이론을 이용할 때 이와 같은 결과를 감안하여 이론값을 보정하면 보다 정확한 값을 얻을 수 있을 것이다.

  • The mode I stress intensity factor ($K_I$) of a newly proposed slow-crack-growth-test (Notched Ring Test, NRT) specimen was found using finite-element method. The theoretical $K_I$ value of NRT was not available in any references and could not be solved analytically. At first, in order to verify the accuracy of the finite-element approach, published $K_I$ values of several cracks were calculated and compared with finite-element results. The results were in excellent agreement within inherent errors of theoretical $K_I$. Finally the $K_I$ of NRT was found using 2- and 3-dimensional finite-element methods and expressed as a function of the applied load.

  • Theoretical and experimental result studies of the unconfined penetration test (UP) method are conducted to suggest a new test method by improving the UP method for determination of the tensile strength of compacted fine-grained soils. From the theoretical aspect, the tensile strength of the specimen is estimated from the maximum load by the theory of perfect plasticity with assumptions, sufficient local deformability and modified Mohr-Coulomb failure criterion. Experimentally, some factors including relative size of specimen-disc, disc diameter, and loading rate are needed more study, because these factors significantly affect the results of tensile strength. Improvement of the alignement between two discs and specimen in the UP test is also necessary to eliminate the error due to eccentrically loading.
