Examination of experimental errors in Scanlan derivatives of a closed-box bridge deck

  • The objective of the investigation is the analysis of wind-tunnel experimental errors, associated with the measurement of aeroelastic coefficients of bridge decks (Scanlan flutter derivatives). A two-degree-of-freedom experimental apparatus is used for the measurement of flutter derivatives. A section model of a closed-box bridge deck is considered in this investigation. Identification is based on free-vibration aeroelastic tests and the Iterative Least Squares method. Experimental error investigation is carried out by repeating the measurements and acquisitions thirty times for each wind tunnel speed and configuration of the model. This operational procedure is proposed for analyzing the experimental variability of flutter derivatives. Several statistical quantities are examined; these quantities include the standard deviation and the empirical probability density function of the flutter derivatives at each wind speed. Moreover, the critical flutter speed of the setup is evaluated according to standard flutter theory by accounting for experimental variability. Since the probability distribution of flutter derivatives and critical flutter speed does not seem to obey a standard theoretical model, polynomial chaos expansion is proposed and used to represent the experimental variability.

Structural behaviour under wind loading of a 90 m steel chimney

  • This paper presents results from an investigation of the structural behaviour of a very slender 90 m high steel chimney erected at V$\ddot{a}$xj$\ddot{o}$ in southern Sweden in 1995. The chimney is equipped with a mechanical friction-type damper at the top. Due to a mistake during erection and installation of the chimney the transport fixings of the damper were not released properly and the chimney developed extensive oscillations in the very first period of service. This caused a great number of fatigue cracks to occur within a few months of service. After the functioning of the damper had been restored and the fatigue cracks were repaired an extensive program was initiated in 1996 to monitor the structural behaviour of the chimney under wind loading. In the investigation data were collected for more than six years of continuous measurements and regular observations of the chimney. The data obtained have some general relevance with respect to wind data, behaviour of a slender structure under wind loading, and the effect of a mechanical damper. Also some theoretical studies were performed as part of the investigation of the chimney.

  • To consider dynamic magnification effect at the static design stage, impact factor is applied to design load. Current impact factor adopted EUROCODE without domestic verification through theoretical and experimental studies. This study evaluated impact factor of railway bridges from dynamic response under KTX running. Moving Average Method was applied to calculate impact factor. Investigation considering different type of bridges and tracks including velocity was conducted.

  • 본 연구에서는 동강성법을 이용하여 2자유도 진동시스템을 모델링하였다. 등가 모델을 구성한 후 Inertance의 크기에 따라 변화되는 시스템의 특성을 규명하였다. 2자유도 진동 시스템을 단일 모우드 소거에 적용할 경우 해석적인 설계 방법론을 1) 감쇠가 없는 경우 2) 1개의 감쇠기를 갖는 경우로 나누어 제시하였다.

  • Reserarch on marital satisfaction adjustment or quality has been one of the most frequently studies area of the investigation in the family field. Yet there has been many problems with the theory and empirical work in this area especially in the area of definitional ambiguity problems of dimensionality level of analysis and problems of measurement. This article is a critical review of this work including both theoretical and empirical problems that typically have occured with the previous research Also a section on suggested modifications for future research in this area and a section of suggestion of new marital satisfaction measurement are included.

  • In a high speed spindle system, it is very important to monitor the state of rotating rotor. Particularly in active control spindle system, the position sensor must provide feedback to the control system on the exact position of the rotor. In order to monitor the state of a high speed spindle exactly, high accuracy and wide frequency bandwidth of sensors are important. This paper observes the factors which has an effect on dynamic performances of inductive position sensor.

  • We analyze the error in the $p$ version of the of the finite element method when the effect of the quadrature error is taken into account. We investigate source of quadrature error due to the presence of mapped elements. We present theoretical and computational examples regarding the sharpness of our results.

  • 고압 수은등의 전기적 특성을 예측하기 위한 컴퓨터 프로그램을 작성하였다. 즉 고압기체방전에서 성립되는 단위체적당 에너지 평형식과 입자의 밀도에 대한 연속방정식을 방전관의 반경과 시간에 대하여 풀어서 전류값을 예측하였다. 프로그램의 수행결과, 방전광에 입력된 에너지는 방사에너지로 가장 크게 손실되며, 전도손실은 시간에 무관하게 거의 일정한 것으로 나타났다. 또한 비교적 길이가 짧은 방전관의 특성을 예측하기 위하여 음극강하를 고려하여 산정한 길이를 추정하는 방법을 개발하였다.
