  • Despite of the rich literature in discriminant analysis, this complicated subject remains much to be explored. In this article, we study the theoretical foundation that supports Fisher's linear discriminant analysis (LDA) by setting up the classification problem under the dimension reduction framework as in Li(1991) for introducing sliced inverse regression(SIR). Through the connection between SIR and LDA, our theory helps identify sources of strength and weakness in using CRIMCOORDS(Gnanadesikan 1977) as a graphical tool for displaying group separation patterns. This connection also leads to several ways of generalizing LDA for better exploration and exploitation of nonlinear data patterns.

  • Spin-lattice relaxation pathway of $CH_2$ spin system by two dimensional NOESY sequence has been discussed. Two-dimensional spectra governed by dipolar relaxation mechanism were simulated in term of transfer mode, the generalization of conventionally used magnetization mode in one dimension. The transfer matrix directly related to the Redfield relaxation matrix can be constructed by the multiplet of transfer mode. The observable relaxation transfer modes causes to variation of the off-diagonal signal intensity of phase sensitive NOESY spectra from which variable spectral density can be extracted with simple group theoretical calculation. The variation of the J-coupling peak intensity as a function of the mixing time in 2-D spectra for $n-Undecane-5-^{13}C$ and Bromoacetic $2-^{13}C$ acid has been theoretically traced.

  • In this study, we examined some matters related to the learning of variable concept in school mathematics on the basis of the theoretical foundation from the previous studies(e.g. Davis, 1975; Rosnick, 1981; IK chemann, 1981; Wagner, 1983.) and practices on variable concept teaching by evaluating the current state of that. Matters be discussed are as follows; the use of symbol for place holders in elementary mathematics, the dealing with sets those elements are literals and operations of such sets, the teaching of dummy variable, the construction of literal expressions that contains variables, the labeling indeterminates as a constant, the change in the exact meaning of variable according to the function concept, the teaching of a generalization by means of variables. After considering on these matters that are connected with the teaching-learning of variable concept, we suggested the alternative proposal to the current state of variable concept teaching.

  • SVM(Support Vector Machine) is a classification method which is recently watched in mechanical learning system. Vapnik, Osuna, Platt etc. had suggested methodology in order to solve needed QP(Quadratic Programming) to realize SVM so that have extended application field. SVM find hyperplane which classify into 2 class by converting from input space converter vector to characteristic space vector using Kernel Function. This is very systematic and theoretical more than neural network which is experiential study method. Although SVM has superior generalization characteristic, it depends on Kernel Function. There are three category in the Kernel Function as Polynomial Kernel, RBF(Radial Basis Function) Kernel, Sigmoid Kernel. This paper has analyzed performance of SVM against kernel using virtual data.

  • A theoretical model for shear strength evaluation of fibrous concrete beams reinforced with stirrups is proposed. The formulation is founded on the theory of plasticity and the stress field concepts, generalizing a known plastic model for calculating the bearing capacity of reinforced concrete beams, to the case of fibrous concrete. The beneficial effect of steel fibres is estimated taking into account the residual tensile strength of fibrous concrete, by modifying an analytical constitutive law which presents a plastic plateau as a post-peak branch. Around fifty results of experimental tests carried out on steel fibrous concrete beams available in the literature were collected, and a comparison of shear strength estimation provided by other semi-empirical models is performed, proving that the numerical values obtained with the proposed model are in very good agreement with the experimental results.

  • The usual approach for desinging a fast multiplier involves finding a way to quickly add up all the partial products, based on parital product recoding scheme and carry-save addition. This paper describes theoretical medels for area and time complexities of Multibit Reconding Paralle Multiplier (MRPM), which is a generalization of the modified Booth recoding scheme. Based on the proposed models, time performance, hardware requirements and area-time efficiency are analyzed in order to determine optimal recoding size for very large scale integration (VLSI) realization of the MRPM. Some simulation results show that the MRPM with large multiplier and multiplicand size has optimal area-time efficiency at the recoding size of 4-bit.

  • A bidirectional dc-dc converter is used in battery energy storage systems owing to the growing requirements of a charging and discharging mode of battery. The magnetic coupling of output or input inductors in parallel-connected multi modules of a bidirectional dc-dc converter is often utilized to reduce the peak-to-peak ripple size of the inductor current. This study proposes a novel design guideline to achieve minimal ripple size of the inductor current under bidirectional power flow. The newly proposed design guideline of optimized coupling factor is applicable to the buck and boost operation modes of a bidirectional dc-dc converter. Therefore, the coupling factor value of the coupled inductor does not have to be optimized separately for buck and boost operation modes. This new observation is explained using the theoretical model of coupled inductor and confirmed through simulation and experimental test.

  • Let n be a fixed natural number. Menger algebras of rank n can be regarded as a canonical generalization of arbitrary semigroups. This paper is concerned with studying algebraic properties of Menger algebras of rank n by first defining a special class of full n-place functions, the so-called a left translation, which possess necessary and sufficient conditions for an (n + 1)-groupoid to be a Menger algebra of rank n. The isomorphism parts begin with introducing the concept of homomorphisms, and congruences in Menger algebras of rank n. These lead us to establish a quotient structure consisting a nonempty set factored by such congruences together with an operation defined on its equivalence classes. Finally, the fundamental homomorphism theorem and isomorphism theorems for Menger algebras of rank n are given. As a consequence, our results are significant in the study of algebraic theoretical Menger algebras of rank n. Furthermore, we extend the usual notions of ordinary semigroups in a natural way.

  • A newfangled family of Nyquist-I pulses is proposed and named improved dual sinc pulse (IDSP). The IDSP is designed to improve performance in orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM)-based systems. The IDSP is a generalization of the dual sinc pulse (DSPP). This is because the DSP was formulated for α = 1 whereas the IDSPP is valid for 0 ≤ α ≤ 1. The behavior of the IDSP is promising in terms of its frequency and time domain responses. Theoretical and numerical outcomes indicate that the IDSP outperformed other existing pulses applied in OFDM-based systems for various key evaluation metrics.
