  • The Maasai community from Kenya is highly esteemed for their strong adherence to traditional cultures and ethno medicine. This is attributed to their age-old traditional mechanisms of passing down knowledge to the younger generation. Adoption to new socio-economic lifestyle and urbanization has been associated with development of diabetes, which has been reported among some indigenous pastoral communities in Kenya. Documentation of traditional methods of treatment and management of diabetes by the Maasai has not yet been reported, yet it is noteworthy. Thirty traditional healers from Narok County were purposively selected and interviewed about traditional knowledge of antidiabetic medicinal plants, parts used, preparation dosage and administration. A total of 14 antidiabetic plant species distributed within 13 genera and 12 families were identified and documented as herbal medicine used in the management of diabetes. The most highly cited plant species was Dovyalis abyssinica (20%), the plant family Flacourtiaceae and Rhamnaceae (2 plant species each) recorded the highest number of plant species while the most frequently used plant part was the roots (46%). Literature review revealed that some of the cited plants have known phytochemicals with antidiabetic activity; the study recommends further scientific investigation to validate their efficacy and safety.

  • A growing number of people shows deep interests in healthcare and treatments for the elderly with increasing their population. Contrary to general adults, old people have their own physiological and pathological characteristics. Therefore, treatments for the elderly should be different form those for others in younger generation. Alimentotherapy, which means the treatment or prevention by means of food, is one of the best way to deal with geriatrics that are chronic, multiple. Korea has its tradition and plenty of information in this field. Even in the early ChoSun Dynasty, when people suffered from lack of proper medical care, physicians used dietary prescriptions as active treatments, Therefore, we can find lots of cases in "Hyangyak-jibseogbang" and "Euibangyoochui" which are medical books published at that time. After that, a specialized alimentotherapy book, "Sikryochanyo" was written based on that kind of total medical volumes. With development of society, economy. and medical science, alimentotherapy has grown remarkably. Unlike in the early Chosun Dynasty, it was used positively for promoting general health condition and practiced as supportive method for medication in the late Chosun Dynasty. Considering the characteristics of the elderly, alimentotherapy is the most effective way to keep them healthy and can also used with medication.

  • This study analyze the intergenerational transmission of poverty in Korea, using the first wave of Korea Welfare Panel Study. For this analysis, I produced poverty transition tables across generation and estimated logistic models to explore the effects of parent's poverty on the children's adulthood poverty. As the results, I found that parent's poverty reduced children's education level and then the low education level increased the likelihood that children experience poverty in their adulthood. In other words, parent's poverty might increase children's adulthood poverty through the mediating effects of education level. This mediating effects were also identified in the analyses by group and cohort. From the analyses by group, daughters rather than sons, those from urban rather than rural area, and the older cohort rather than younger cohort showed greater intergenerational transmission of poverty.

  • Convergence in technology and media makes it possible to augment nurturing by making blended infrastructures with new digital resources available in learning environments at schools. A game-based provision of educationally-valuable content within a collective, virtual environment combined with an analysis of events in the game after it has been played (blended nurture environment) may help to better communicate human values especially where old-fashioned discussion methods fail or do not fulfill the promise of effective, educational institution-based methods of bringing up. In this paper we discuss the use of behavioural metaphors in game-based blended-nurture scenarios for computer games and pedagogical-psychological tests. Upbringing demands an active intervention in the process of children growing up and the courage to place higher expectations on ourselves and our own lifestyles. Decisions and the behaviour of the younger generation are often irrational and the resulting effects can have destructive consequences. Nowadays, games take on the role of modern storytellers. With the help of complex analogies in games, a variety of situations can be depicted in an eye-catching way and later discussed.

  • The present paper investigates a particular structure in Taiwan Mandarin, "(NP) + (intensifier) + $gei^3ta^1$ "give him/it"+ adjective" in terms of construction grammar. The structure is mostly observed in utterances of younger generation. Though it is not regarded as a grammatical or standard structure, it is still a register of language. The structure lays emphasis on speaker's attitude toward an undesired, unpleasant event. In most cases, the attitude tends to be negative. The events or propositions must have existed or been completed. The adjectives compatible with this structure belong to category of higher degree. The grammatical usage illustrates semantic bleaching of $gei^3ta^1$. And the changes from giving to a grammatical particle denoting subjective belief is a kind of subjectification. Moreover, $ta^1$ could refer to events or situation expressed by a more complicated grammatical structure, or denotes nothing as a dummy word. Though many previous studies paid attention to the newly developed structure resulted from language contact, the adequate account was not provided. It is hoped through this investigation, we will get a better understanding of this particular structure.

  • Multimedia searching is an important activity on the Web, especially among the younger generation. The purpose of this study aims to examine college students’ multimedia information needs and searching on the Internet. While there is a clear pattern among students with respect to their multimedia uses, searching sources, relevance criteria and searching barriers, some differences exist especially according to searching of different multimedia types such as image, audio and video. For multimedia uses, information/data-focused uses are frequently found in image and video, while the use of audio is mainly for object-focused searches. As multimedia searching sources, audio and video files present a similar pattern of being high in media specific searching sources and low in generic search engines. Browsing through related blogs and homepages is an important part of searching for media files accounting for approximately 20% of total search for each media. The relevance criteria used by study participants when search for image files was primarily concerned with topicality while the contextual and media quality in the audio and video types are also considered important. Searching barriers for audio and video files are categorized into three broad aspects, including access and search quality, preview limitations and collection limitations, while obstacles for image files searching include access difficulties and low qualities of various collection.

  • The malignant small round cell tumor of the thoracopulmonary region was described by Askin in 1979 and called as Askin Tumor. The Askin tumor is a rare, arises from the soft tissues of the chest wall or peripheral lung which is predominantly in younger generation. Clinical and pathologic appearance were very similar to Ewing's sarcoma and rhabdomyosarcoma but when examined it by electron microscopy, there was some different in morphology. The tumor tended to recur locally and did not seem to disseminated widely but the median survival was only 8 months.

  • There has recently been increasing male college students' interest in and expenditure on fashion apparel. Specifically, the younger generation has a tendency to take an interest in knitwear due to its potential benefits such as elasticity and flexibility. The purpose of this research is to identify male college student's knowledge and buying behavior of knitwear and to provide the related information to academicians and industrial personnel. The subjects of this research were male college students in their twenties who live in Seoul and Gyounggi areas. 450 questionnaires were randomly distributed to the 20s male students from April 20, to May 4, 2009, and 409 questionnaires were correctly received. The results are as follows: First, Male college students' interest in knitwear is not above the average. Second, they focus more on a practical value of knitwear than on an aesthetic value of knitwear. Third, when purchasing knitwear, male college students first consider design, followed by color, pattern and quality. Forth, male college students want to be shown as a neat image when they wear knitwear.

  • Wattle length, width, and area were measured to classify bilateral asymmetries in four lines of chickens. The lines were the S26 generation of White Leghorns selected for high (HAS) or low (LAS) response to sheep red blood cells and sublines in which selection had been relaxed for three generations (high antibody relaxed [HAR] and low antibody relaxed [LAR]). Antibody titers (AB) were greater for HAS than for HAR with both greater than for LAS and LAR which while different for males did not differ for females. The low antibody lines were heavier and reached sexual maturity at younger age than the high antibody lines. In general, wattle length, width, and area were greater in the low than high antibody lines. In 24 comparisons for bilaterality 18 exhibited fluctuating asymmetry and 6 exhibited directional asymmetry with 5 of the 6 being for wattle length. There was not a clear pattern for changes in degree of asymmetry when selection was relaxed for 3 generations. For females, the relative asymmetry (RA) of wattle area was larger ($p{\leq}0.05$) for HAR than for LAR and not different from the selected lines and relaxed lines. There were no differences among lines for RA of wattle length and width of females and wattle length, width, and area of males.
