  • The test result is a part of a study on the reduction of fuel expense. the test was conducted in the ship of east sea fisheries supervision office which is modified from 139 ton trawler to 183 ton petrol ship. The result of NOx emission and Smoke Value for main engine and generator engine are measure and included in this paper.   • Characteristics of food garbage discharged from primary schools in Seoul Metropolitan city were analysed from a recycling point of view. The results of study are epitomized as follows : 1. Factors of generation of food garbage are mainly an unbalanced diet habit, indifference of class teachers, and worn-out cooking equipments. 2. Measures of reduction are principally a written message to parents, broadcasting in the school, and instructions. 3. Methods of recycling are mainly feed stuff, composting by school itself, composting on commission, and making feed stuff on commission. 4. Obstacles of food garbage recycling are a nasty smell of composting apparatus, an excessive fuel consumption of composting apparatus, a high concentration of salt, and an unstable demand for feed stuff and compost produced from food garbage. 5. Correlation factors are like follows : the number of feeding children and food garbage weight after cooking is 0.35, total food garbage generated and monthly treatment cost of food garbage is 0.20, individual school lunch expenses and food garbage weight after cooking is -0.10, individual school lunch expenses and food garbage generated per capita is 0.02, and individual school lunch expenses and monthly treatment cost of food garbage is 0.03.

  • A Fuel Cell is one of the solving to reduce greenhouse gases. Despite the high efficiency and environmental friendly of Household Fuel Cell System it has hardly obtained popularity mainly due to its high prices. In order to encourage use of the system prices and operational expenses need to become economical. In this study, optimization through simulation was conducted to find out the optimal operational condition. As a result of simulation the system is operated with DSS operation from 5 O'clock until 19 O'clock for 13 hours at the constant output of 0.4kW to maximize reduction of energy rate. Furthermore, instead of the domestic system with the rated output of 1kW, rated output of the system should be reduced to 0.4 - 0.6kW which can promote installation of household Fuel Cell System.

In order to encourage use of the system prices and operational expenses need to become economical. In this study, optimization through simulation was conducted to find out the optimal operational condition. As a result of simulation the system is operated with DSS operation from 5 O'clock to 19 O'clock for 14 hours at the constant output of 0.4kW to maximize reduction of energy rate. this DSS operation condition can reduce 200,000 won of energy rates in 35 pyoung apartment for a year. And, we can know that starting time of DSS operation don't effect to energy rates through the simulation. Furthermore, the household fuel cell system with the rated output of 1kW should be reduced to 0.4 - 0.6kW which can promote installation of household Fuel Cell System. Now, the household fuel cell system don't have been used widely due to economical efficiency. but, in the near future, Fuel Cell will be used to household by decrease of LNG price caused by development of shale gas.

A Techno-Economic Study of Commercial Electrochemical CO2 Reduction into Diesel Fuel and Formic Acid

  • The electrochemical CO2 reduction (ECR) to produce value-added fuels and chemicals using clean energy sources (like solar and wind) is a promising technology to neutralize the carbon cycle and reproduce the fuels. Presently, the ECR has been the most attractive route to produce carbon-building blocks that have growing global production and high market demand. The electrochemical CO2 reduction could be extensively implemented if it produces valuable products at those costs which are financially competitive with the present market prices. Herein, the electrochemical conversion of CO2 obtained from flue gases of a power plant to produce diesel and formic acid using a consistent techno-economic approach is presented. The first scenario analyzed the production of diesel fuel which was formed through Fischer-Tropsch processing of CO (obtained through electroreduction of CO2) and hydrogen, while in the second scenario, direct electrochemical CO2 reduction to formic acid was considered. As per the base case assumptions extracted from the previous outstanding research studies, both processes weren't competitive with the existing fuel prices, indicating that high electrochemical (EC) cell capital cost was the main limiting component. The diesel fuel production was predicted as the best route for the cost-effective production of fuels under conceivable optimistic case assumptions, and the formic acid was found to be costly in terms of stored energy contents and has a facile production mechanism at those costs which are financially competitive with its bulk market price. In both processes, the liquid product cost was greatly affected by the parameters affecting the EC cell capital expenses, such as cost concerning the electrode area, faradaic efficiency, and current density.

  • It is to be classified into friendly environment and safety problems, as a main technology development of the recent automotive industry. As these tendency, lots of automobile companies focus on a reduction of fuel expenses and strengthen of crash safety using high strength steel. In this study advanced technologies such as tailored blanks, aluminum extrusion and high strength steel forming applied to bumper beam will be described. As a result of impact analysis and an actual impact test, in terms of beam performance and a possibility fur the mass production will be discussed.

Estimation of Exhaust NOx Emission for Marine Engines (선박엔진의 NOx 배출량 산정)

  • Considering international status of our country as world class ship builder and geographical characteristics encircled by sea in three facets, controlling of air pollutants emission from marine engines becomes more and more important issue in recent days. Implementation of immediate pollutants emission control regulation and standardization of test and certification procedure are required to reduce air pollution from marine engines. But cost increments due to additional equipment of emission control device and development and certification test expenses as well as depreciation of fuel economy should be considered. To satisfy those air pollution reduction and economic requirements, we should make our own interpretation of IMO standard and implementation schedule depending on our country's status. For this purpose we measured NOx emission from small and middle class marine engines to calculate emission factor and total pollutant emission in our country. With the comparison and analysis of other countries emission control regulation we proposed basic data of total emission from marine engine and future emission control standard in our country. According to our estimation, 62% of total NOx emission of marine engines comes from fishing boat and 38% from commercial vessels. The portion of NOx emission from marine engine is 18.6% of whole country NOx emission. Due to the voyage characteristics of middle and large vessel and necessity of international harmonization of marine engine pollutants emission control standard, it is inevitable to adopt IMO standard for middle and large marine engines. But considering technological and cost effect of fishing boat operating in near sea, it is resonable to set a standard within 80% of measured value at the moment and gradually implement the same IMO standard in near future.

A Study on the Estimation of Additional Cost for the Certification of Zero Energy Apartment Buildings (공동주택 제로에너지빌딩 인증을 위한 적정가산비 산정에 관한 연구)

  • Environmental and energy issues such as abnormal climate and depletion of fossil fuel due to global warming have emerged as a critical task to threaten human survival. As a result, interest in the Zero Energy Building is increasing as it is an innovative building that can significantly contribute to building energy reduction and greenhouse gas reduction. In the market, however, the added cost of construction is a major stumbling block to the revitalization of the Zero Energy certification. In this study, general private apartment complexes were selected for research, detailed elements for Zero Energy certification were presented based on the construction criteria for eco-friendly houses from the initial design stage, and the cost efficiency analysis of the components for certification were presented. It has been analyzed that only Grade 3 certification can be implemented in apartments due to technical level and physical limitations. Also, after reviewing the cost trend during the lifecycle cost, all expenses can be recovered within 13 years after completion only in the case of grade 5 of the Zero Energy Building. The additional costs proposed in the present study are reflected appropriately in the review of projects for apartments scheduled for order in the future to contribute to the revitalization of the Zero Energy Building certification.
