  • Due to high in-situ stress and brittleness of rock mass, the surrounding rock masses of underground caverns are prone to appear splitting failure. In this paper, a kind of loading-unloading variable elastic modulus model has been initially proposed and developed based on energy dissipation principle, and the stress state of elements has been determined by a splitting failure criterion. Then the underground caverns of Dagangshan hydropower station is analyzed using the above model. For comparing with the monitoring results, the entire process of rock splitting failure has been achieved through monitoring the splitting failure on side walls of large-scale caverns in Dagangshan via borehole TV, micro-meter and deformation resistivity instrument. It shows that the maximum depth of splitting area in the downstream sidewall of the main power house is approximately 14 m, which is close to the numerical results, about 12.5 m based on the energy dissipation model. As monitoring result, the calculation indicates that the key point displacement of caverns decreases firstly with the distance from main powerhouse downstream side wall rising, and then increases, because this area gets close to the side wall of main transformer house and another smaller splitting zone formed here. Therefore it is concluded that the energy dissipation model can preferably present deformation and fracture zones in engineering, and be very useful for similar projects.

  • This paper compare the adaptive equalization performance of RMMA (Region-based MMA) and SCA (Square Contour Algorithm) in order to minimize the intersymbol interference that is occurred in communication channel when transmit the multilevel QAM signal. The RMMA used for improving the performance by translate to 4-level constant modulus and stability in current MMA algorithm, and the SCA used for the improving the performacne by combines the current CMA and RCA algorithm. These algorithms are aimed to improving the equalization peformance by applying the differenct principle each other in multilevel QAM signal, its different performance were compared by computer simulation in the same channel environment. For this, the output signal constellation of equalizer, residual isi, maximum distortion were applied in performance index. As a result, RMMA have more fairly good in every performance index such as signal point clustering capabilities and convergence speed compared to SCA. It is confired that the equalization noise due to misadjumstment was reduced in RMMA than SCA.

  • Measurement of cardiac output by thermodilution method is easy to perform and can be repeated at very short intervals and offers a number of theoretical and practical advantages. The purpose of this paper is to reevaluate the accuracy and reproducibility of the thermodilution cardiac output by comparing the results with those obtained by the direct Fick technique. From January through April 1981 [4 months], 26 simultaneous cardiac output measurements were made using thermodilution and direct Fick methods in 12 patients in the intensive care unit of Severance Hospital following open heart surgery. The average age of the patients was $34.8{\pm}12.0$ [SD] years [range; 17-57 years]. For cardiac output determination by thermodilution technique [$CO_TD$], a Swan-Ganz Thermodilution Catheter, Model 93A-131-7F [Edwards Laboratories], a Cardiac Output Computer, Model 9520A, and Strip Chart Recorder, Model 9810 [Edwards Laboratories] were used. For the determination of cardiac output by direct Fick principle [$CO_Fick$], a Van Slyke Manometric Apparatus [Thomas] for the measurements of arteriovenous oxygen content difference and a Collin`s Respirometer with Kymograph for the measurement of oxygen consumption were used. The correlation between the simultaneously measured $CO_TD$ and $CO_Fick$ was found to be $CO_Fick$ = 0.95.$CO_TD$ + 0.1073, [r= 0.9777, P < 0.001 ]. For 26 double or triple determinations of $CO_TD$, the values ranged from 1.77 L/min to 6.66 L/min, with a reproducibility of 2.18%. The maximum difference of $CO_TD$ for $CO_Fick$ was between +11.99% and -12,99% [$Mean{\pm}SD$ = $6.07{\pm}3.97$%]. Measurement of cardiac output by thermodilution method provides a simple, rapid, reproducible and highly accurate method for multiple cardiac output measurements suitable for use at the bedside. • Wave directional spectrum estimation methods for irregular waves were considered in this study. Until now, the Longuet-Higgins Method (LHM) initiated by Longuet-Higgins et al. (1963) has been widely used, but resolutions of the estimation were found to be low. Kobune's Maximum Entropy Method (MEM) for the estimation of wave directional spectrum, bas-ed on the entropy Principle showed higher resolutions comparing with the LHM . If the wave directional spectrum is of Delta functions, the MEM is exact in its estimation. It was also found that for a unimodal spectrum, if the Mitsuyasu's spreading coefficient is above 5, the estimation resolutions were high. In bimodal spectrum, as the angle difference between the two peaks increased, the resolution improved. The energy seems to transfer to the smoother peak in the smoothing of peak's peakedness. LHM has a tendency to estimate bimodal spectrum as a unimodal spectrum ; thus, except for its computational speed, the resolution of LHM falls far below that of MEM.

  • This paper describes the forward type pulse power supply which is the simple circuit configuration and easy to be managed using a power semiconductor switching device(Power-MOSFET) in the view of commercialization. The maximum value of output pulse voltage of the proposed pulse power supply system can be realized by the variation of phase angle($\phi$) of bridge rectifier circuit and also its pulse period is determined by the duty ratio of Power-MOSFET. The principle of basic operating and the operating characteristics of the forward type pulse power supply are estimated by the switching frequency, the variation of phase angle($\phi$)It is shown that theoretical and experimental results are in good agreement by comparing simulation and experimental results of proposed pulse power supply when a lamp type ozonizer can be used as a load. This proposed pulse power system shows that it can be practically used in the future as a power source system in various fields.

  • Operating rules, the basic principle of reservoir operation, are mostly developed from maximum or minimum, mean inflow series so that those rules cannot be used in practical operating situations to estimate the expected benefits or provide the operating policies for uncertainty conditions. Many operating rules based on the deterministic method that considers all operation variables including inflows as known variables can not reflect to uncertainties of inflow variations. Explicit operating rules can be developed for improving the weakness. In this method, stochastic trend of inflow series, one of the reservoir operation variables, can be directly method, the stochastic technique was applied to develop reservoir operating rule. In this study, stochastic dynamic programming using the concepts was applied to develop optimal operating rule for the Chungju reservoir system. The developed operating rules are regarded as a practical usage because the operating policy is following up the basic concept of Lag-1 Markov except for flood season. This method can provide reservoir operating rule using the previous stage's inflow and the current stage's beginning storage when the current stage's inflow cannot be predicted properly.

  • The USM uses friction between a mobile part (rotor) and a vibration part(stator), which is different from the principle of the conventional motor based on the interaction of electric and magnetic fields. In this thesis, a flat-type $L_1-B_8$ mode USM was designed and fabricated the characteristics of an ultrasonic vibration. The results of fabricated USM are as follows: (1) In case of ultrasonic motor with elastic-body of stainless, when applied voltage, frequency, pressing force of rotor were 50 [V], 27.9 [kHz], 1.5 [N], 5.0[mN m] respectively, the speed of revolution could be presented up to 0 [cm/s]. (2) In case of ultrasonic motor with elastic-body of brass, when applied voltage, frequency, pressing force of rotor were 50 [V], 21.4 [kHz], 1.5 [N], 1.4[mN m]respectively, the speed of rotor revolution was presented up to 0 [cm/s]. (3) The USM of elastic-body of stainless showing 1.17[%], somewhat low, in the maximum efficiency according to torque was superior to the USM of elastic-body of brass showing 0.34 [%]. The Flat-type $L_1-B_8$ mode USM had characteristics of typical drooping torque-speed, large torque and high speed, and operating in both directions by phase reversal.

  • A small amount of milk is sold as 'untreated' or raw in the US; the two most commonly used heat-treatments for milk sold in retail markets are pasteurization (LTLT, low-temperature long time; HTST, high-temperature short time) and sterilization (UHT, ultra-high temperature). These treatments extend the shelf life of milk. The main purpose of heat treatment is to reduce pathogenic and perishable microbial populations, inactivate enzymes, and minimize chemical reactions and physical changes. Milk UHT processing combined with aseptic packaging has been introduced to produce shelf-stable products with less chemical damage than sterile milk in containers. Two basic principles of UHT treatment distinguish this method from in-container sterilization. First, for the same germicidal effect, HTST treatments (as in UHT) use less chemicals than cold-long treatment (as in in-container sterilization). This is because Q10, the relative change in the reaction rate with a temperature change of $10^{\circ}C$, is lower than the chemical change during bacterial killing. Based on Q10 values of 3 and 10, the chemical change at $145^{\circ}C$ for the same germicidal effect is only 2.7% at $115^{\circ}C$. The second principle is that the need to inactivate thermophilic bacterial spores (Bacillus cereus and Clostridium perfringens, etc.) determines the minimum time and temperature, while determining the maximum time and temperature at which undesirable chemical changes such as undesirable flavors, color changes, and vitamin breakdown should be minimized.

  • The object of this study was to obtain acute information single oral dose toxicity of Mahwangbujaseshin-tang extracts, with mouse bone marrow cell micronucleus test for detecting possible genotoxicity. In order to observe the 50% lethal dose, approximate lethal dosage, maximum tolerance dosage and target organs, test articles were once orally administered to ICR mice at dose levels of 2000, 1000, 50 mg/kg according to the recommendation of KFDA Guidelines. The mortality and changes on body weight, clinical signs and gross observation were monitored during 14 days after dosing according to KFDA Guidelines with organ weights of 12 types of principle organs. In addition, after twice oral treatment of Mahwangbujaseshin-tang extracts 2000, 1000 and 500 mg/kg, we checked the changes on the number of MNPCE. We could not find any mortality, clinical signs, changes in the body weight and gross findings upto 2000 mg/kg treated group. The limited dosages in rodents except for increases of lymphoid organ weights and hypertrophy encounted as results from pharmacological effects of Mahwangbujaseshin-tang extracts, immune modulator effects with some sporadic accidental findings not toxicological signs. No evidence of increases of MNPCE numbers were also detected in all three different dosages of Mahwangbujaseshin-tang extracts treated mice. The results obtained in this study suggest that the LD50 and ALD of Mahwangbujaseshin-tang extracts in mice were considered as over 2000 mg/kg because no mortalities were detected upto 2000 mg/kg that was the highest dose recommended by KFDA and OECD. And the results of mouse bone marrow micronucleus test of Mahwangbujaseshin-tang extracts is negative results.

  • Contrast-enhanced CT has an important role in the assessment of liver lesions. However, the optimal protocol to get most effective result is not clear. The main principle for deciding injection protocol is to optimize lesion detectability by rapid scanning when lesion-to-liver contrast is maximum. For this purpose, we developed a physiological model of contrast medium enhancement based on the compartment modeling and pharmacokinetics. Blood supply to liver was modeled in two paths. This dual supply character distinguishes the CT enhancement of liver from that of the other organs. The first path is by hepatic artery and the second is by portal vein. It is assumed that only hepatic artery can supply blood to hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) compartment. It is known that this causes the difference of contrast enhancement between normal liver tissue and hepatic tumor. By solving differential equations for each compartment simultaneously using computer program Matlab, CT contrast-enhancement curves were simulated. Simulated enhancement curves for aortic, hepatic, portal vein, and HCC compartments were compared with mean enhancement curves from 24 patients exposed to the same protocols as simulation. These enhancement curves were in a good agreement. Furthermore, we simulated lesion-to-liver curves for various injection protocols, and analyzed the effects. These may help to optimize the scanning protocols for good diagnosis.
