This paper proposes the design method based on the composite right/left-handed (CRLH) structure to miniaturize and enhance the rejection performance in the stopband. For realization, we used the 0-th order resonance point of the unbalanced case of the CRLH and the simple theory of Inverter. The proposed technique is validated by the performance predictions and experiments, and it is found out that the suggested method enables the sire reduction of over 65 % from the conventional filters such as the parallel coupled type.
The right-handed double-helical structure of DNA (B-DNA), which follows the Watson-Crick model, is the canonical form of DNA existing in normal physiological settings. Even though an alternative left-handed structure of DNA (Z-DNA) was discovered in the late 1970s, Z-form nucleic acid has not received much attention from biologists, because it is extremely unstable under physiological conditions, has an ill-defined mechanism of its formation, and has obscure biological functions. The debate about the physiological relevance of Z-DNA was settled only after a class of proteins was found to potentially recognize the Z-form architecture of DNA. Interestingly, these Z-DNA binding proteins can bind not only the left-handed form of DNA but also the equivalent structure of RNA (Z-RNA). The Z-DNA/RNA binding proteins present from viruses to humans function as important regulators of biological processes. In particular, the proteins ADAR1 and ZBP1 are currently being extensively re-evaluated in the field to understand potential roles of the noncanonical Z-conformation of nucleic acids in host immune responses and human disease. Despite a growing body of evidence supporting the biological importance of Z-DNA/RNA, there remain many unanswered principal questions, such as when Z-form nucleic acids arise and how they signal to downstream pathways. Understanding Z-DNA/RNA and the sensors in different pathophysiological conditions will widen our view on the regulation of immune responses and open a new door of opportunity to develop novel types of immunomodulatory therapeutic possibilities.
A crystallographic unit cell can be transformed into another one by a 3×3 transformantion matrix. If the determinant of the transformation matrix has a negative value, the newly transformed unit cell becomes a left-handed cell. The best way of transforming the left-handed cell to the right-handed one is to multiply each element of the transformation matrix by-1, and its corresponding transformation matrix must be applied tot he atomic coordinates of a noncentrosymmetric crystal so as to maintain the absolute configuration unchanged. The behaviour of absolute configuration caused by transforming the crystallographic unit cell was examined theoretically and experimentally on the compound (S)-(+)-4-phenyl-1-[4-aminobenzoyl) indoline-5-sulfonyl]-4,5-dihydro-2-imidazolone hydrochloride.
This study proposes a composite right/left-handed transmission line (CRLH-TL) that permits switching between the right-handed (RH) and left-handed (LH) modes using single crystalline silicon (SCS) RF MEMS switches. It is possible to change modes from the RH to LH mode, or vice versa, by controlling the admittance of capacitors and the impedance of inductors using switch operations. The proposed switchable CRLH-TL consists of SCS RF MEMS switches, metal-insulator-metal (MIM) capacitors and shunt inductors. At 8 GHz, the fabricated device shows a phase response of $87^{\circ}$ with an insertion loss of 2.7 dB in the LH mode, and a phase response of $-77^{\circ}$ with an insertion loss of 0.56 dB in the RH mode.
A band stop filter is proposed with cascading unit cells that are based on a dual composite right/left-handed (D-CRLH) conductorbacked coplanar waveguide. The parameters of the unit cell have been analyzed to confirm the behavior of each component for the equivalent circuit of the cell. We simulated the dispersion characteristics and energy distribution and have determined that the unit cell has a D-CRLH property. The band stop filter was implemented by symmetrically cascading two of the proposed unit cells. The experimental results for the band stop filter revealed a band rejection performance of 32 dB and a return loss of 0.35 dB in the stopband frequency range from 869MHz to 954MHz. Finally, we show that there is a good agreement in the experimental results and those obtained through the simulations.

This paper presents the target object search algorithm under Dynamic Programming (DP) in the Tree-type maze. We organized an experimental environment with the concatenation of Y-shape diverged way, small mobile robot, and a target object. By the principle of optimality, the backbone of DP, an agent recognizes that a given whole problem can be solved whether the values of the best solution of certain ancillary problem can be determined according to the principle of optimality. In experiment, we used two different control algorithms: a left-handed method and DP. Finally we verified the efficiency of DP in the practical application using our real robot.

This paper presents a tunable composite right/left-handed (CRLH) delay line for a delay line discriminator that linearizes modulated frequency sweep in a frequency modulated continuous wave (FMCW) radar transmitter. The tunable delay line consists of 8 cascaded unit cells with series varactor diodes and shunt inductors. The reverse bias voltage of the varactor diode controlled the group delay through its junction capacitance. The measured results demonstrate a group delay of 8.12 ns and an insertion loss of 4.5 dB at 250 MHz, while a control voltage can be used to adjust the group delay by approximately 15 ns. A group delay per unit cell of approximately 1 ns was obtained, which is very large when compared with previously published results. This group delay can be used effectively in FMCW radar transmitters.
In this letter, a novel zeroth-order resonant (ZOR) antenna on vialess co-planar waveguide (CPW) is proposed. It is based on a composite right/left-handed CPW transmission line. To achieve a compact size, this antenna utilizes the ZOR condition, and its reactive parameters determine the resonant frequency. Each unit cell is composed of a metallic top patch and meander lines. Since it is realized on the CPW single layer, the proposed antenna has the benefits of being a compact size and easy to fabricate. The bandwidth of 6.8% and efficiency of 62% are experimentally achieved. Its bandwidth is enhanced compared with other ZOR antennas.

By using LHTL(Left-Handed Transmission Line) which is a form of a metamaterial and conventional RHTL (Right-Handed Transmission Line), we designed, fabricated and tested a broadband $90^{\circ}$ coupler which is a basic circuit for I-Q vector signal generation. Synthetic LHTL and RHTL were implemented with capacitors and inductors only, that the size is minimized. Also, by implementing a Wilkinson power divider which is required for the suggested circuit using a synthetic RHTL, the size of whole circuit is only $11mm{\times}12mm$. For the frequency range 0.8~1.25 GHz, the phase difference at the outputs maintained $90^{\circ}{\pm}5^{\circ}$ and thus, a broadband $90^{\circ}$ coupler could be made in a compact form. for the same frequency range, the insertion loss is less than 1.6 dB and return loss is more than 10.1 dB. To the best of our knowledge, this is the smallest and broadband $90^{\circ}$ coupler for the frequency range and if the circuit is made with MMIC(Monolithic Microwave Integrated Circuit) technology, the size will be reduced much further.

The propagation constant, which is defined for a double-positive (DPS) material of positive permittivity (${\varepsilon}'$) and permeability (${\mu}'$), is extended and derived for an epsilon-negative (ENG) material (${\varepsilon}'<0,\;{\mu}'>0$), a mu-negative (MNG) material (${\varepsilon}'>0,\;{\mu}'<0$), and a double-negative (DNG) material (${\varepsilon}'<0,\;{\mu}'<0$). By investigating how the permittivity loss (${\varepsilon}"$) and permeability loss (${\mu}"$) terms affect the propagation constant, we determine that the wave in the materials propagates as a right-handed (RH) triad or a left-handed (LH) triad. Regardless of the magnitudes of ${\varepsilon}"$ and ${\mu}"$, DPS and DNG materials become RH and LH media, respectively. However, ENG and MNG materials possess unusual characteristics that both materials become a RH medium when the sign of (${\varepsilon}'{\mu}"+{\varepsilon}"{\mu}'$) is positive and they become a LH medium when the sign is negative.
