  • The importance of residents' participation has become more prominent to promote better living condition and quality of life in rural communities due to the skeptical views on the outcomes of the rural community supporting projects led by organizations and institutions. This study analyzes White Dandelion Eco-Village in Hoebuk Myeon, Boeun Kun, Chungbuk where community development is being done by its residents. By examining the formation background and the history of the village, and various participation forms and methods of the residents, I am to derive the ideal rural community development project led by the villagers themselves. To achieve successful supporting projects for rural communities by many different organizations and methods, it is necessary to have followings; residents' affectionate attentions for the community as well as good ideas and intentions, excellent leaders who gather all the efforts and transform them into good plans, well made strategies and continuous endeavor, and the diversion of thoughts of the supporting project experts and the organizations.

  • We, in Korea, have over two hundred hypermarkets and the number is continuously increasing. We drop into a hypermarket for merchandise, which is an integral part of our life style. So, we should consider safety for employees as well as customers because hundreds of thousands of people use the hypermarket every day. In addition to this consideration, the government should also be a political support relating to accidents that occur in the hypermarket because security and safety matters are important to all of us. But even now, Our security conditions do not match our ideal goal and we take countermeasures after accident or loss. This is a result of not having a security management expert coupled with a chief executive officer that has no idea about security awareness and loss prevention. In addition, we do not have specific laws to address these matters. We also lack reasonable ideas to prevent accident and loss. Now is the right time to revamp the laws and ordinances to improve the quality of civilian life. Prevention of accidents is a needed investment for all security personnel. The best solution for businesses is prevention of accidents. This will increase profits and cost-effectiveness as well as increase customer satisfaction. The company should form a security management department for comprehensive protection of assets. The goal of security management employees should be productive and effective security management. Every employee should have responsibility in mind to prevent accidents in his or her work. In addition, The company should have a systematic organization in place and regular training sessions. The most effective security management comes from cooperation of all members. In the 21st century, we pursue a high standard of living which is a result of our cooperation against any accident and loss. Sennewald says The value of security is better measure by what does not happen rather than what does.

  • It's been known that overexpression of the oncoprotein Her2 (eu/ErbB2), transmembrane receptor protein, occurs in human breast cancer. Her2-positive breast cancer patients who have Her2 overexpression show less therapeutic efficacy with enhanced metathesis and increased resistance to chemotherapy. So far, a humanized monoclonal antibody against Her2 protein called Herceptin is the only drug approved by Food and Drug Administration for treatment of Her2-overexpressing breast tumors. However, antibody therapy of Herceptin may not be ideal method for therapeutic intervention of Her2 protein expression. The therapeutic intervention of Her2 protein expression may be more efficiently achieved by inhibiting the expression of Her2 gene rather than by down-regulating the Her2 protein already overexpressed. Here, we found that the interaction of two proteins of ESX (an epithelial-restricted transcription factor) and DRIP130/CRSP130/Sur2 (a Ras-linked subunit of human mediator complexes) mediates the expression of Her2 gene. The association of ESX with Sur2 is mediated by a small hydrophobic face of 8-amino acid helix in ESX, suggesting that the ESX-Sur2 interaction can be a new novel target for Her2-positive cancer. The process to develop potent ESX-Sur2 interaction inhibitors targeting for Her2-positive cancer therapeutics will be discussed.

  • The Internet is taking up every single life of us with a huge speed of growth. If the ideal market called 'perfect competition' in economics will ever come true in this digital world, the sellers won't be able to have monopolistic profits above the marginal cost any more, letting the resource allocation much more efficient. This paper attempts to test whether this theory is true in e-market as well through observing price differences between online and offline retailers of extremely homogeneous products, CDs. Since most results from previous research were supporting the inefficiency of e-market in price level, price adjustment, and especially price dispersion, this article designed the research methodology most carefully. The results of pervious works are partly due to the immaturity of the Internet market or due to the uniqueness of the American CD market, where oligopolistic market players are significantly dominant. The analysis of price data of 20 titles from 20 retailers for five weeks supports that online market is more efficient than offline market with statistical significance in all the three dimensions. We could conclude that the e-market is going much more efficient at least compared to the offline market and the more would it be unless the sellers resist and prevent comparison-shopping.

  • The main objective of the present study is to examine the traditional concepts of women's virtues which originated mainly from Confucian ethical thoughts. According to Naefoon, a moral text for women which was highly respected in the Yangban society of Yi dynasty, the main virtues for women were as follows : 1. Fidelity ; A woman had to be faithful for life to only one man who was, or was going to be, her husband. 2. Filial piety ; Sons and daughters were supposed to dedicate their hearty love and respect to their parents, parents in law, and whole ancestors. 3. Obedience ; A woman was required to be completly obedient to her husband as well as to her father. She was also supposed to be obident even to her sons when she was old. 4. Diligence and Thrift ; It was highly advisable for a woman to work hard for household matters. 5. Hospitality ; Hearty hospitality for domestic guests was one of the main duties of women in traditional Korean society. 6. Maternal wisdom ; a mother was supposed to be both stern and merciful to her children. 7. Kindness to relatives ; Special Kindness to her husband's relatives was required as a duty to a married woman. The above mentioned seven main virtues cannot be said to be fit , as such to the contemporary Korean society. Many of them are unacceptable when we evaluate them form the democratic viewpoint . But we still find some valuable ideas at the bottom of the concepts of these virtues. If we properly modify them so that they fit to our own age, they might become a source of wisdom even for the contemporary moral life. It's tried to give some suggestions concerning how to modify the concepts of women's virtues in question, and them gave a sketch of an ideal figure of women in this industrial society.

  • This study aims to define the influences of an individual's talent types and body consciousness factors on high((intense)-level appearance management behavior in 367 adults(female 172 and male 195). The present study is the first to consider both human talent type and the body consciousness on the high level-appearance management behavior correlates to appearance management behaviour. According to the result of the analysis, plastic surgery on body forms or faces are done by few people. However, straightening teeth, ear piercing, removal of spots or imperfections, and eyebrow tattoos are conducted by many consumers without much resistance. It is rather widely accepted, despite the fact that it can cause pain, discomfort, and side-effects. Furthermore, although excessive acts such as muscle training, dieting, weight managing, and oriental treatments can lead to side-effects, the standardized efficient beta value turned out to be high for these treatments. Thus, this study suggests that both the interpersonal talent among 8 talent factors and 2 body consciousness factors contributes to the reinforcement of the self-identity through high level-appearance management behaviors, but except risky plastic surgery. Therefore, this study supports the previous researches that body consciousness composed of self-source, which is desires and efforts to achieve the ideal body, and external-source, which is the internalization of other people's feedbacks.

  • Field classes are necessary to grow the ability of and an attitude toward exploring nature and to shape the basic concept of natural science. I tried to develop a site for field classes and the old road Naori's hill is an ideal place with convenient traffic and established youth camps. As a result the vegetation was divided into five associations and communities. The vegetation units obtained in the present study were as follow: Quercus acutissima community, Pinus densiflora community, Pinus densiflora-Quercus acutissima community, Quercus acutissima-Pinus densiflora community, and Quercus mongolica community. In all survey areas 100 family 336 genus 587 species of palants was found. Furthermore, it provides lots of plants throughout the seasons. Not only the flora but also flowering phenology, variety of floral color and growth habits can be used as teaching items. Incorporation of diverse knowledge of plants at the old road Naori's hill into biology teaching will give students academic stimuli and teachers an opportunity of retraining. With a combination of use of visual instruments, the purpose of conceptual and exploring biology is more easily achieved.

  • Vibrio harveyi belongs to the Vibrio genus that causes vibriosis in marine and aquatic fish species through double-stranded DNA virus replication. In humans, around 12 Vibrio species can cause gastroenteritis (gastrointestinal illness). A large amount of virus particles can be found in the cytoplasm of infected cells, which may cause death. Despite these devastating complications, there is still no cure or vaccine for the virus. As a result, we used an immunoinformatics approach to develop a multi-epitope vaccine against most pathogenic hemolysin gene of V. harveyi. The immunodominant T- and B-cell epitopes were identified using the hemolysin protein. We developed a vaccine employing three possible epitopes: cytotoxic T-lymphocytes, helper T-lymphocytes, and linear B-lymphocyte epitopes, after thorough testing. The vaccine was developed to be antigenic, immunogenic, and non-allergenic, as well as having a better solubility. Molecular dynamics simulation revealed significant structural stiffness and binding stability. In addition, the immunological simulation generated by computer revealed that the vaccination might elicit immune reactions in the actual life after injection. Finally, using Escherichia coli K12 as a model, codon optimization yielded ideal GC content and a higher codon adaptation index value, which was then included in the cloning vector pET2+ (a). Altogether, our experiment implies that the proposed peptide vaccine might be a good option for vibriosis prophylaxis.

  • Mercury is a toxic and non-essential metal in the human body. Mercury is ubiquitously distributed in the environment, present in natural products, and exists extensively in items encountered in daily life. There are three forms of mercury, i.e., elemental (or metallic) mercury, inorganic mercury compounds, and organic mercury compounds. This review examines the toxicity of elemental mercury and inorganic mercury compounds. Inorganic mercury compounds are water soluble with a bioavailability of 7% to 15% after ingestion; they are also irritants and cause gastrointestinal symptoms. Upon entering the body, inorganic mercury compounds are accumulated mainly in the kidneys and produce kidney damage. In contrast, human exposure to elemental mercury is mainly by inhalation, followed by rapid absorption and distribution in all major organs. Elemental mercury from ingestion is poorly absorbed with a bioavailability of less than 0.01%. The primary target organs of elemental mercury are the brain and kidney. Elemental mercury is lipid soluble and can cross the blood-brain barrier, while inorganic mercury compounds are not lipid soluble, rendering them unable to cross the blood-brain barrier. Elemental mercury may also enter the brain from the nasal cavity through the olfactory pathway. The blood mercury is a useful biomarker after short-term and high-level exposure, whereas the urine mercury is the ideal biomarker for long-term exposure to both elemental and inorganic mercury, and also as a good indicator of body burden. This review discusses the common sources of mercury exposure, skin lightening products containing mercury and mercury release from dental amalgam filling, two issues that happen in daily life, bear significant public health importance, and yet undergo extensive debate on their safety.
