  • The capital cost of the company is one that must be paid to the money owner as the price by using the money. The capital cost according to the source of money supply can be estimated by the expected profit rate undertaken by the use of the capital. But in the area of pre-existent economic evaluation, the evaluation of the company investment has been treated by the profit rate of the capital after considering the repayment conditions of the other's money or the interest. Thus in this study, in case the company makes an investment on various kinds of the capital at the same time, not make use of the capital as a one source, the economic evaluation of an investment should be handled by taking the weighted average cost of capital into consideration in proportion to the constitution of the capital cost by the sources of money supply, Especially, as the cost of the private money is very much connected with the profit rate through the stock market, the Capital Asset Pricing Model (CAPM) will be applied. This kind of economic evaluation method can be said to have much to do with the Economic Value Added : EVA) as well as to be highly thought as a standard to estimate the company' value recently To certify the usefulness of this approach, the case study of the output of the capital cost will be made for the purse of the economic evaluation of the alternative investment by using the financial statements of a motor company H.

  • Cost of capital is one of the key factors of accounting regulation policy for telecommunication market. This paper aims at investigating efficient policy improvements concerning accounting regulation for telecommunication market focused on cost of capital calculation methods and its application. At First, cost of capital estimating method should be improved. In estimating the cost of equity capital, it is necessary to use benchmark method for Equity risk premium. It will reduce analytical errors caused by a rapid economic change and inflation. It is also more desirable to use debt premium adding method for the cost of debt capital. Optimal capital structure method may be considered a better way to estimates capital structure. Secondly, cost of capital estimating process also has to be reformed. Telecommunication industry changes rapidly so it does not reflect fast environmental changes. Therefore, cost of capital should be calculated every year. Cost of capital should be calculated by individual companies. There is information asymmetry between regulators and regulatees. Because of that cost of capital calculating process takes long time and cost a lot. To solve this problem, regulator should legislate on cost of capital calculation and then regulating companies report the calculating result. Lastly, major telecommunication companies are all listed now and it is possible to calculating it separately. We must continuously improve the estimating method and application of cost of capital and due to the fast growing of telecommunication industry. The process of determining the calculating method must be discussed and best method chosen.

  • The focus of this study is to investigate the effect of earnings management and audit quality on the cost of equity capital and also examines whether audit quality acts as a moderating variable for the effect of earnings management on the cost of equity capital. The population in this study are companies from the consumer goods industry sector listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) during the 2016-2018 period. This sector was chosen because it is a sector that is able to survive in conditions of economic decline, so it becomes a good investment opportunity in the future. The sample selection was carried out using purposive sampling technique. By using the Moderated Regression Analysis (MRA) technique, the results show that earnings management has a positive effect on the cost of equity capital. Conversely, companies with good audit quality will bear lower cost of equity capital. The moderating hypothesis test results show that audit quality moderates the effect of earnings management on the cost of equity capital. This means that, even though the company carries out earnings management, investors have more confidence in the results of audits conducted by qualified auditors so that the cost of equity capital is low.

  • Purpose - Using a sample of Korean multinational corporations, we examine whether the relationship between tax risk and the implied cost of capital discriminates between the environmental, social, and corporate governance (ESG) of highly rated firms. Design/methodology - Firms with high tax risks have an increased uncertainty of future cash flows. Therefore, as the volatility of future cash flow increases, information asymmetry and the required return increases. Highly rated ESG firms can reduce information asymmetry, thereby weakening the positive relationship between tax risk and cost of capital. We employ the standard deviation of the cash effective tax rate as proxy of tax risk. We utilize the ESG rating data of the Korea Corporate Governance Service (KCGS). We use a PEG model, MPEG model, and GM model to measure the implied cost of capital. Findings - We find a positive association between the implied cost of capital and tax risk. The positive relationship between tax risk and the implied cost of capital weakens in highly rated ESG firms. Highly rated ESG firms prefer a stable tax position to invest after-tax cash flows into sustainable management. Therefore, the negative effects of tax risk on cost of capital can be reduced. Originality/value - This study provides empirical evidence that ESG activities can mitigate the negative impact of tax risk on the cost of capital for Korean multinational corporations. In a business environment where ESG activities are more important, the empirical results that ESG activities can reduce the corporate risk of Korean FDI companies are expected to provide implications for the ESG activities of multinational corporations.

  • Economic value added (EVA) is introduced on two levels: as index for evaluation of corporation and as index for evaluation of business unit. In the latter case, application of one and the same cost of capital to all business units of a business corporation may be possible, but it is a fundamental policy for EVA to apply different cost of capital to business units with different risks. Estimate of cost of capital of business units is a problem to be resolved. The author, focusing on the question of the estimate of cost of capital of business units, has conducted a demonstrative study on risk structure of cost of capital estimates by using financial indices of Japanese manufacturers (37 automotive industries, 141 electrical and electronic machinery industries, 63 food processing industries, 98 chemical industries, 125 general machinery industries) for a period of 5 years from 1995 to 1999. The author presumes that $\beta$ is explained by a regression formula ${\beta}=B_0+{\Sigma}B_iY_i+{\alpha}$ ($Y_i$: financial indices) and selects 40 explanatory variables from financial statements as risk components. Using their financial indices, the author concludes through a series of statistical analyses that there is a good likelihood of estimating cost of capital for Japanese industries and is convinced that it will lead to more reliable and practical results by assigning averages and variances to 40 primary financial indices for a period of 3 to 5 years selected in this demonstrative study.

  • This paper examines the effects of strong corporate governance for listed companies in accessing capital markets from the point of view of the weighted average cost of capital. Results found that corporate governance had a significant negative(-) relation to the weighted average cost of capital. This finding is consistent with previous research and implies that the higher shareholder ownership and foreign ownership have confidence in the financial information of the company, and therefore, risk is reduced for investors. This results in lower expected rates of return and companies will pay a lower cost of capital. Second, tax evasion had a positive effect(+) on the weighted average cost of capital. The low quality of corporate accounting information is expected to increase tax avoidance. Accordingly, this results in increased risk. If the required rate of return is high in its impact,it leads to increased capital costs. In addition, corporate governance and tax avoidance factors showed a negative affect (-) on the weighted average cost of capital. Corporate governance plays an important role in tax avoidance and the weighted average cost of capital, and strong corporate governance reducesthe impact on tax avoidance. In addition, the weighted average cost of capital in capital markets showed the reducing effect.

  • Purpose: Carbon emissions have now become a major concern around the world, especially for the government and private sector. Unfortunately, in Indonesia, disclosure related to company carbon emissions is still done voluntarily. This research aims to provide empirical evidence on the effect of environmental performance, carbon emission disclosure, and carbon emission intensity on the cost of equity capital. Research design, data, and methodology: This research uses secondary data with a sample consisting of Indonesia companies that are sensitive to the environment and listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange in 2017-2019. The analytical tool used in this research was multiple regression models. Result: The study found a carbon emission disclosure had a significant positive effect on the cost of equity capital. Carbon emission intensity and company size had a significant negative effect on the cost of equity capital. Meanwhile, environmental performance did not have a significant effect on the cost of equity capital. Conclusion: Therefore, the results of this research are expected to provide feedback to the company's stakeholders that environmental performance and carbon emissions are some of the points seen by investors in making investment decisions.

  • PURPOSES: This study is to suggest the Contribution of Road Capital in Industry and Optimal Level of Road Investment in South Korea METHODS: Based on the literature review, This research is empirically estimated using disaggregate and disaggregated data composed of 10-sectors covering the entire korea economy for the period 1970~2000. The relevant policy questions addressed in this report are : cost reduction and Scale elasticities of road, effect of road capital stock on demand for labor, capital and materials, marginal effect of road, industry TFP growth decomposition, Net Social Rates of Returns, optimal of road capital. RESULTS : The marginal benefits of the road capital at the industry level were calculated using the estimated cost elasticities. Demand for the road capital services varies across industries as do the marginal effects. The marginal benefits are positive for the principal industries. This suggests that for these industries the existing stock of road capital may be under supplied. CONCLUSIONS: This results emerges is that the ratio of the optimum to actual road capital, measured by road, was high at beginning of the period 1970s and declined 1990s. There appears to be evidence of under-investment in road capital. That is continuous and premeditated investment for road which lead to saving time and finance.

The main contribution of road capital is in the manufacturing industries ; the magnitudes of contribution varies among industries. These results indicate that growth in exogenous demand is most important contributor to TFP growth. CONCLUSIONS : The road capital have a significant effect on employment, private capital and demand for materials inputs in all industries. At a given level of output, an increase in road capital lead to variety to demand for all inputs in all industries.

  • This study extends research into whether disclosure of corporate and financial information is associated with firms' costs of equity capital. This study sets out to examine empirically the determinants of corporate disclosure in the annual reports of 37 largest and most liquid firms listed on Kazakhstan Stock Exchange (KASE) in Kazakhstan. It also reports the results of the association between company-specific characteristics and disclosure of the sample companies. Based on the analysis of existing empirical research, the disclosure index has been constructed and regression analysis of the influence of the disclosure index on the cost of equity capital has been conducted. The obtained results show that the received findings correlate with foreign empirical studies, and the disclosure index in this sample has a negative impact on the cost of equity capital. Using cost of equity capital estimates derived from capital asset pricing model, we find that firms with higher levels of financial transparency are associated with significantly lower costs of equity capital. Economic theory assumes that by increasing the level of corporate reporting, firms not only increase their stock market liquidity, but also decrease the investors' estimation risk, arising from uncertainty about future returns and payout distributions. The results show that firms on the Kazakhstan market can reduce their cost of equity capital by increasing the level of their voluntary corporate disclosures.
