효과적인 정보검색 도구로 활용되는 시소러스, 분류표 등의 통제어휘집들은 동일한 개념이나 의미를 표현하는데 서로 다른 어휘를 사용하고 있다. 이러한 동일 개념에 대한 용어 표현차이로 인한 정보의 검색 및 통합문제를 해결하기 위하여 미국국립의학도서관은 통합의학언어시스템(Unified Medical Language System : 이하 UMLS)을 개발하였다. UMLS 개발은 1986년부터 시작된 장기 프로젝트로서 2001년판 UMLS는 메타시소러스, 의미망, 전문가 사전의 세가지 요소로 구성되어 있다. 본고는 UMLS의 개발배경과 구성요소 및 PubMed, NLM Gateway에서의 적용사례에 대해 고찰하였다.

Objective: Various controlled vocabulary such as thesaurus and classification make us to reuse and share effectively by defining different concept and linking terms each other. The UMLS(Unified Medical Language System) is one of the most universal medical terminology systems. It is needed various methods to share and reuse information of traditional Korean medicine. We will research on method that adopt SUI of the UMLS(that is de facto standard in medical terminology system) in traditional Korean medical terminology. Method: We described major problems and applying process when we tried to add traditional Korean medicine in the part of meridian into the UMLS metathesaurus. Comparing western medical terms and traditional Korean medical terms for applying UMLS metathesaurus, there is not only many consistency, but also differences. Result: We confirmed what is the differences and consistency between western medical terms and traditional Korean medical terms. And then reviewed methods that apply the CUI, LUI, SUI in traditional Korean medical terms. Traditional Korean medical terms are not discriminated by singular or plural string. In addition, traditional Korean medical terms have vary string by initial law: the law of initial sound of a syllable. Character is described with Korean, traditional Chinese, modern Chinese, etc. According to meaning, language, initial law, SUI has a distinct value respectively. Conclusion: There are many differences to apply the UMLS between western medical terms and traditional Korean medical terms. For the better implementation to traditional Korean medicine into the UMLS, further research is needed in standardization and classification of traditional Korean medical terms, medical information system, etc. We hope this study helps the implementation UMLS, EHR, knowledge based system in Oriental medicine in the future.

Because UMLS semantic network is bulky and complex, user hard to understand and has shortcoming that can not express all semantic network on screen. To solve this problem, rules to dismember semantic network efficiently are introduction. but there is shortcoming that this should classifies manually applying rule whenever UMLS semantic network is modified. Suggest automatic clustering method of UMLS semantic network that use genetic algorithm to solve this problem. Proposed method uses Linked semantic relationship between each semantic type and semantic network does clustering by structurally similar semantic type linkages. To estimate the performance of suggested method, we compared it with result of clustering method by rule.

Objectives: This pilot study was carried out with the purpose of suggesting a methodology on mapping and registering Korean medicinal material concepts at 2011AB of the UMLS. Methods: 411 medicinal material concepts were mapped to biomedical terminology within the metathesaurus of the UMLS. Based on the forms of listing on the UMLS and thesauri information, the medicinal material concepts were classified into three groups and mapped. Results: 76 concepts in Group 1 which English CUIs have Chinese AUIs were mapped considering scientific names and Chinese strings. 259 concepts in Group 2 that have CUIs in the form of 'botanical name/Chinese pinyin' were mapped with the information of Korean and Chinese Pharmacopoeias. Groups 3, 76 concepts of English names in the Korean Pharmacopoeia are matched considering their botanic names and used parts. Conclusion: This study suggested a methodology to map Korean medicinal material concepts to international standard terminology, which will help ensure interoperability and compatibility between traditional medicine terminology and the UMLS.

Objective This is a previous study for including traditional Korean medical terms into the UMLS(The Unified Medical Language System) and achieving the interoperability between various medical systems. Method First, the traditional medical terms were divided into 4 categories : basic theory, acupuncture, herb and formulae. And then, searching these terms through metathesaurus in UMLSKS(UMLS Knowledge Source Server), terminology information was investigated and analyzed. Results In the case of TM title, traditional Korean medicine was categorized as different semantic type from Traditional medicine, Traditional Chinese medicine and Kampo medicine. Acupuncture points were described only as abbreviation and herbs were conceptualized inconsistently, as some belonged to scientific name and some belonged to Chinese pronunciation. Formulaes are described as Chinese, Japanese and Korean pronunciations. Conclusions More research is needed on diagnosis/disease terms and semantic types for the unique concepts in traditional Korean medicine in order to including the international standard.

UMLS 의미망은 크기가 방대하고 복잡하여 사용자가 이해하기가 어렵고 화면상에 모든 의미망을 모두 표현할 수 없다는 단점을 가지고 있다. 이 문제를 해결하기 위해 의미망을 효율적으로 분할하기 위한 규칙들이 소개되고 있지만 이것은 UMLS 의미망이 수정될 때마다 규칙을 적용하여 수작업으로 분류를 해야한다는 단점이 있다. 이 문제점을 해결하기 위해 유전자 알고리즘을 이용한 UMLS 의미망의 자동 군집화 방법을 제안한다. 제안한 방법은 각각의 의미유형 간의 연결된 의미관계를 사용하여 의미망을 구조적으로 유사한 의미유형 집합들로 군집화하고 규칙에 의한 군집 방법의 결과 비교 평가한다.

Objective : Up to the present, theories of medical books is too difficult to understand thoroughly. However, these study methods have some problems in dealing with lots of meaning because the comprehension of theories are dependent upon one's memory. Especially, comparison distinct medical books are more difficult matter. So, we have attempted to solve a problem. Method : We have researched medical terms in the "Piweilun" according to below the procedure. (1) Making a terms list: We have selected constituent of sentence. And we have made term list on the basis of concept of term. (2) Making a synonym list: We have collected identical conception and made a synonym list. So, using an synonym tables of DB, it is possible to search for the non-standard terms of medical theory. (3) Making a classification system: Using UMLS(Unified Medical Language System), MeSH(Medical Subject Headings), IST(International Standard Terminology) ect., we have made a classification system of oriental medicine terms in the "Piwelun". Analysis of relation between terms. Result : In the "Piweilun", there are more than 1,790s concepts. Parts of those are belonged to UMLS-Semantic Type, the other parts of those are not belonged to UMLS-Semantic Type. And those include predicate more than UMLS-Semantic Relations.

Objective : We did a comparative study about characteristics of oriental medical books. As a result, we took notice of classification in the nominal terms by semantic type of UMLS(Unified Medical Language System). By using classified nominal terms, comparative study can be more effectively. So, we selected another oriental medical book and classified nominal terms in it by semantic type of UMLS. By result of classification, we have attempted to study about comparison between oriental medical books and development of medical theories. Method :We have made a comparative study on classification in the nominal terms between "Biwiron(脾胃論)" and "Soayakjeungjikgyeol(小兒藥證直訣)" according to the below the procedure. (1) Making a nominal terms list of "Soayakjeungjikgyeol(小兒藥證直訣)" and grasping contextual meaning of nominal terms of it. (2) Modification and supplementation about semantic type of UMLS for "Soayakjeungjikgyeol(小兒藥證直訣)". Using the modified classification system, we classified nominal terms. After this process, we arranged classified nominal terms by Haansoft Hangul 2007. (3) Comparing classified nominal terms between "Biwiron(脾胃論)" and "Soayakjeungjikgyeol(小兒藥證直訣)". Result : In the "Soayakjeungjikgyeol(小兒藥證直訣)", there are more than 2,519's nominal terms and different categories of semantic type of UMLS classification from "Biwiron(脾胃論)". Through comparison between their classification of nominal terms, we can understand the characteristics of the two and their development of medical theories.

본 연구의 목적은 미국국립의학도서관(NLM)의 Unified Medical Language System(UMLS)에 한의학의 용어를 등재하는 것이다. 1차 등재 대상으로 한국한의학연구원(KIOM)에서 진행중인 한의학 용어 정제 연구 결과물 중 임(任) 독맥(督脈)과 12정경(正經)에 속하는 360개의 경혈명(經穴名)의 Concept Unique Identify(CUI)를 선정하였다. UMLS Knowledge Source Server (UMLSKS)의 메타시소러스 검색을 통해 UMLS 내 경혈(經穴)용어에 대한 terminology정보를 수집, 분석하였다. 이를 바탕으로 용어간 개념 비교를 통해 UMLS의 경혈(經穴)용어와 KIOM의 경혈(經穴)용어를 매핑하였다. 마지막으로 Rich Release Format(RRF)로 데이터를 저장하고, Unicode Transformation Format-8 (UTF-8)로 인코딩하여 NLM으로 송부하였다. NLM에서 용어 등재에 대한 적합성 여부를 판별한 후 2010AB버젼에 "TKMT2010"이라는 소스명으로 한글로 된 한의학 용어가 최초로 UMLS에 등재되었다. 향후 UMLS와 같은 국제표준의학용어와 연계를 통해 한의학 용어가 다양한 의학용어체계와 상호호완성을 확보하고 표준화, 세계화할 수 있도록 지속적인 연구가 필요하다.

UMLS(2003AA edition 기준)의 메타시소러스는 다국어를 지원하며 875.233개의 개 (concept)과 2,146,897개의 개념명(concept name)을 포함한다. 현재 UMLS 메타시소러스 검색을 제공하는 PubMed나 NLM에서는 UMLS에서는 개념명에 존재하지 않는 잘못된 질의나, 잘못된 구문 또는 개념명의 일부를 이용한 검색이 불가능하다. 이는 사용자가 UMLS에서 정보를 얻기 위해서는 정확한 의학용어를 숙지해야 되며. UMLS 메타시소러스의 데이터가 잘못 되었을 경우 정보를 얻을 수 없다. 본 연구에서는 이러한 문제점을 보완하기 위해서 자연어처리에서 연구되고 있는 문자열 간의 유사도 측정방식을 적용하여 잘못된 질의어에 대한 자동수정 기능을 이용한 메타시소러스 검색방법을 제안한다. 제안한 방법에서는 질의어를 자동수정하기 위하여 철자사전을 자동으로 추출하고 문자열 비교알고리즘을 도입하여 질의어와 철자사전간의 용어의 유사도를 측정한다. 유사도에 의하여 얻어진 용어를 메타시소러스의 형식에 맞게 변환하여 질의에 대한 최적의 결과를 얻을 수 있도록 한다. 제안된 방법의 성능을 평가하기 위해서 최근(2003년 8월) bi-gram 방식을 도입한 NLM에서의 시스템과 비교 평가한다.
