Individual analysis of SOC showed that sense of belonging was higher than shared emotional connection, which means certain level of intervention is needed. Pearson correlation analysis validated that there exists statistically significant relationship between physical environment and SOC. Further it also found that the most important predictor in facilitating social interaction were comfortable, quiet, and enough social space around the dormitory.

For this purpose, we proposed a research model that consists of e-Learning contents quality, e-Learning system quality, e-Lecturing quality, sense of e-Learning community factors as independent factors and e-Learning and e-Learning satisfaction as mediators and tested it empirically based on the structural equation model. The empirical results showed that e-Learning contents quality, e-Learning system quality, sense of e-Learning community factors directly lead to e-Learning. The study also found that e-Learning contents quality, e-Lecturing quality, sense of e-Learning community factors bring about higher e-Learning satisfaction and that e-Learning satisfaction has a positive impact on e-Learning. Furthermore, the research discovered that both e-Learning and e-Learning satisfaction have a significant relationship with e-Learning net benefits. This research renders its theoretical contribution to analyzing a positive influence of sense of e-Learning community, a newly suggested variable added to the existing IS success model in this study, on e-Learning. From a practical view, the findings of this study can lead to improving the quality of e-Learning in today's era where the growth of e-Learning industry is quite noticeable.

  • This study examines the effect of sense of community on the relationship between learner satisfaction and influencing factors related to the online learning environment. Influencing factors related to the online learning environment are derived from previous literature and classified into two groups : social dimension (leader's enthusiasm, offline activities) and system dimension (usefulness, ease of use, enjoyability). Learner satisfaction is defined as the learners' perceived learning gains from taking an online class. Study participants included 250 university students from two different institutions. The participants were divided into 43 groups and asked to complete an online TOEIC preparation module using a commercial cooperative learning system over 4 weeks. Data were collected at three points for each participant, at the beginning, 3 weeks after, and at the end of the online module. Two system factors related to the online learning environment (ease of use, usefulness) directly influenced learner satisfaction, while social factors indirectly influenced learner satisfaction through the mediating role of sense of community.
