  • The net primary productivity and potential natural vegetation in the Korean peninsula in the 21st century were estimated by the Miami model and thermal climate, respectively, based on 148 meteorological data sets. In the 21st century, the distribution range of the net primary produtivity in the Korean peninsula was estimated as 1,050 g $DM{\cdot}m^{-2}{\cdot}yr^{-1}~2,050g\;DM\cdot m^-2\cdot yr^{-1}.\; These\; values\; increased\; by\; 200g\; DM\cdot m^{-2}\cdot yr^{-1}\;on\;northern\;part\;and\;400g\; DM\cdot m^{-2}\cdot yr^{-1}$ on southern part compared with that of the present century. The potential natural vegetation in the Korean peninsula in the 21st century will change into the followings:coniferous forest on Mt. Paektu area, deciduous broadleaf forest on northern part, and evergreen broadleaf forset on southern part.

  • This study analyzed upper-air temperatures in order to make temperature conditions for weapon system operating in Korean Peninsula. One of important tasks of environmental analysis is to set-up suitable temperature conditions for successful development of weapon system. Many weapon system developers are setting air temperature conditions based on the MIL-STD-810G. However, for weapons systems that are used only in the upper-air of the Korean Peninsula, the air temperature conditions recommended by MIL-STD-810G are often not suitable. To establish the air temperature conditions for upper-air in the Korean Peninsula, the method of Percentage of Occurrence should has be built up as method of temperature analysis. Upper-air climate data of the Korea Peninsulas over the past decade is also analyzed based on this method. The study suggest upper-air temperature conditions for weapons systems that are operated only in the Korean peninsula.

  • Long-term tide-gauge data from around the Korean Peninsula were reanalyzed. Both the coastal water and the open sea surrounding the Korean Peninsula appeared to have been influenced by global warming. The long-term change in relative sea levels obtained from tidal stations showed a general rising trend, especially near Jeju Island. It is proposed that global warming may have caused shifting of the path of the Kuroshio branch (Tsushima Warm Current) toward Jeju Island, causing a persistent increase in the water levels along the coast of the island over the last few decades.

  • In this study, calculate the detailed geoidal undulations in and around the Korean peninsula by analysing various sources of gravity data. The relative geoidal undulations reach up to 1.5 meters in and around the Korean peninsula. Geoidal undulations in the Korean peninsula vary from 15.5 m to 30.0 m refer to GRS1980 ellisoid and show a general tendency of eastward increase. These results must be compared with results of other method, especially by the results of GPS survey.

  • For earthquake hazard estimation the data containing large historical events and recent complete observations with various uncertainty should be used together. The traditional maximum likelihood method is not adequate for this kind work. The maximum probable earthquakes in the Korean Peninsula are estimated by the method of an extended maximum likelihood estimation. The method can handle data with various uncertainty. The maximum probable earthquake in the Korean Peninsula is appeared to be 7.14$\pm$0.34 in magnitude.

  • Eighty one specimens of nhodeus sericeus (Pallas, 1176) were collected at the upper stream of the Som River (37$^{\circ}$32' 38" N, 127$^{\circ}$58' 57" E: Maegok-ri, Konggun-myon, Hoengsong-gun, Kanguvon-do, Korea) which is a tributary of the Namhan River. This is the first report of the species in the southern part of the Korean Peninsula. This species is well discriminated from the other species in the genus nhodeus by the following respects. The number of scales of transverse series is more than 34 (range 34-37, mean 35.7 $\pm$0.7). Head is echo감or and snout is Bonder than those of the other species. The upper part of the eve is always black and the lateral body surfaces are reddish purple. It had been hem that the southern limit of the distribution of Rhodeus sericeus was the Yonghung River in Hamgvongnam-do, north-eastern part of the Korean Peninsula. But their distributional range is extended more southerly to the Han River system which tons westward through the central part of the Korean Peninsula.Peninsula.

  • 32 mite species are listed from the Korean Peninsula. One species belongs to the order Prostigmata, family Cryptognathidae, the order Mesostigmata has 20 species and the order Oribatida contains 11 species. Four species from the listed 32 are new for the fauna of the Korean Peninsula, one species belongs to the order Prostigmata (Favognathus maritimus (Shiba, 1969)) and three new species are Oribatida [Camisia biurus (Koch, 1839), Camisia biverrucata (Koch, 1839), Camisia horrida (Hermann, 1804)]. The 28 of the found species are collected in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea; the others were collected in the area of Republic of Korea. Illustrations and short descriptions about the newly found and rarely collected species are given.

Geoidal undulations vary from 3m to 35m in this area referred to GRS1980 ellipsoid. $\xi$values vary from -8.9" to 8.0" and $\eta$values vary from -13. 1" to 9.0". High westward deflection is a distinctive feature in and around the Korean peninsula.he Korean peninsula.

  • The central-western Korean Peninsula contains records of an Early Mesozoic collisional event related to the final amalgamation of the East Asian continent. Here, we present a renewed geologic map of the Deokjeok and Soya islands in the central-western Korean Peninsula and its explanatory note. Our geologic map was based on a detailed investigation of the northeastern area of both islands, which is characterized by a complex fault and shear zone system that accommodated the crustal deformation related to the Mesozoic post-collisional orogenic collapse and the subsequent structural inversion. We suggest future directions of study aiming at addressing issues regarding the deformational responses of crust to the Mesozoic tectonic transition and orogenic cycles.
