Effect of Feeding Systems on Feed Intake, Eating Behavior, Growth, Reproductive Performance and Parasitic Infestation of Black Bengal Goat

  • The experiment was conducted to find out the effect of 4 feeding systems on growth, feed intake, eating behavior, lactation performance, gestation period, post-partum heat period, conception rate and parasitic infestation of Black Bengal goat. Twenty four does of approximately 1 year of age were randomly selected for 4 treatment (feeding systems) groups having 6 replications in each. Treatments were stall feeding ($T_1$), tethering ($T_2$), restricted grazing ($T_3$) and grazing ($T_4$). $T_1$ group was housed continuously and adequate amounts of natural grass were supplied for ad libitum feeding. $T_2$ group was tethered for grazing natural grass from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. being moved at one hour intervals. Goats of $T_3$ group were allowed grazing from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. $T_4$ group was grazed from 8 a. m. to 4 p.m. Concentrate supplement was given at the rate of 150 g per day per goat for all of the treatment groups. Duration of experiment was 219 days. Daily live weight gain was significantly (p<0.05) higher in case of stall fed goats than that of others. DM intake also significantly (p<0.05) differed among the treatment groups and was 3.40 3.95, 3.76 and 4.05 per cent of their live weight for stall feeding, tethering, restricted grazing and grazing groups, respectively. Rate of rumination was significantly (p<0.05) higher in case of tethering group of goats than that of others. Birth weight of kids, milk yield, lactation period and post-partum heat period were significantly higher in case of stall fed goats than others. Tethering group showed significantly (p<0.05) higher litter size than others. Infestation rate of Fasciola was significantly (p<0.05) higher in the grazing group. In conclusion, it may be stated that among these feeding groups overall performance of stall fed goats was more satisfactory, and that the tethering group showed better performance than the others.

Effect of Different Feeding Systems on Carcass and Non-Carcass Parameters of Black Bengal Goat

  • The experiment was conducted to find out the effect of four feeding systems namely; stall feeding, tethering, restricted grazing and grazing on carcass characteristics of Black Bengal goat. Twenty four does of approximately 1 year of age were randomly selected for four treatments of feeding systems having 6 replications in each. Stall fed goats were kept into house all time and adequate amount of natural grass were supplied for ad libitum feeding. Goats of tethering group were tethered for eating natural grass from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and were transferred after one hour interval for changing the grazing place. Goats of restricted grazing group were allowed for grazing from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Goats of grazing group were grazed for 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Concentrate supplement was given at the rate of 150 g per day per goat for all of the treatment groups. Goats were slaughtered after the experiment of 219 days. Body length and height at wither were significantly higher in stall feeding group than others. Average dressing percentage were 42.18, 39.0, 36.79 and 34.0 for stall feeding, tethering, restricted grazing and grazing groups, respectively. Dressing percentage varied significantly (p<0.05) among feeding groups. Caul fat and empty gut weight differed significantly (p<0.05) in all of the feeding systems but others non-carcass parameters did not differ significantly. Percentage of dry matter and ether extract were also significantly (p<0.05) higher in stall fed groups. In conclusion, among four treatment groups, performance of stall fed goats were most satisfactory and then tethering showed better performance than any other groups.

Tethering Meat Goats Grazing Forage of High Nutritive Value and Low to Moderate Mass

  • Twenty-four yearling Boer$\times$Spanish goats were used in a crossover design experiment to determine effects of tethering on forage selection, intake and digestibility, grazing behavior and energy expenditure (EE) with forage high in nutritive value and low to moderate in mass. Objectives were to determine if tethered goats could be used as a model for study of unrestrained animals and to characterize tethering as a production practice. Four 0.72-ha pastures of wheat (Triticum aestivum) and berseem clover (Trifolium alexandrium) were grazed in December and January. Each pasture hosted six animals, three with free movement and three attached to a 4.11-m tether for access to a circular area of $53.1m^2$. Tethering areas were moved each day. One animal of each treatment and pasture was used to determine forage selection, fecal output or grazing behavior and EE; therefore, there were eight observations per treatment. Mass of forage DM before grazing in Tethered areas averaged 1,280 and 1,130 kg/ha in periods 1 and 2, respectively. The CP concentration in ingesta was greater ((p<0.05) 239 and 209 g/kg; SE = 8.0) and the NDF level was lower (p<0.05) for Free vs. Tethered animals (503 and 538 g/kg; SE = 12.0); in vitro true DM digestion was similar between treatments (0.808 and 0.807 for Free and Tethered, respectively; SE = 0.0096). Intakes of DM (1,013 and 968 g/d; SE = 78.6), NDF (511 and 521 g/d; SE = 39.9) and ME (10.9 and 10.7 MJ/d; SE = 0.90) were similar between treatments, but CP intake was greater (p<0.05) for Free vs. Tethered animals (241 and 203 g/d; SE = 17.2). There were small treatment differences in in vivo apparent digestibility of OM ((p<0.05) 0.780 and 0.814; SE = 0.0049), CP ((p<0.05) 0.800 and 0.817; SE = 0.0067) and NDF ((p<0.09) 0.777 and 0.760 for Free and Tethered, respectively; SE = 0.0078). There were no treatment effects on time spent ruminating or grazing (346 and 347 min/d for Free and Tethered, respectively; SE = 42.5), but EE was considerably greater (p<0.05) for Free vs. Tethered animals (571 and 489 kJ/kg $BW^{0.75}$; SE = 8.9). In conclusion, with forage of high nutritive value and low to moderate in mass, tethering can offer a production advantage over free grazing of less energy used for activity despite similar grazing time. With forage removal considerably less than that available for grazing, effects of tethering on chemical composition of selected forage were small and less than needed to markedly affect digestion. Tethering may offer a means of studying some aspects of grazing by ruminants, but would not seem suitable for energy metabolism.

동해안 삼척 호산에 서식하는 둥근성게 Strongylocentrotus nudus의 분포와 피식 패턴 (Distribution Pattern of the Sea Urchin Strongylocentrotus nudus in Relation to Predation Pressure in Hosan, the East Coast of Korea)

  • 강원도 삼척 호산해역에서 해조장의 회복에 결정적 역할을 할 것으로 짐작되는 둥근성게(Strongylocentrotusnudus) 개체군에 대한 생태학적 연구를 수행하였다. 2002년 6월의 예비연구를 통해 조하대에 3개 실험구(인공해조장. 갯녹음지역, 자연해조장)를 설정하고, 8월, 10월, 12월에 둥근성게의 분포와 섭식률, 포식압, 포식자 조합을 추정하였다. 둥근성게의 서식 밀도는 자연해조장에서 가장 낮았으나, 각경(test diameter)의 중위수는 가장 큰것(Kruskal-Wallis test, 8월, p<0.001; 10월, p=0.036)으로 나타났다. 둥근 성게의 먹이 섭식률을 추정하기 위한 실험(enclosure cage experiment)은 자연해조장에서 수행되었으며, 8월과 10월에 각각 160, 13.8 mg seaweed/g sea urchin/day로 추정되었다. 둥근성게에 대한 상대적인 포식압의 실험구 간 비교를 위해 수행된 포박실험 (tethering experiment)으로부터 자연해조장의 포식압이 다른 두 실험구에 비해 상대적으로 높은 것으로 나타났다. 실험 도중 현장에서 관찰된 포식자는 대부분 무척추동물인 것으로 나타났으며 어류 포식의 증거는 찾을 수 없었다. 죽은 성게나 산 성게를 담은 통발을 이용하여 포식자 조합을 파악하기 위한 실험을 하였다. 둥근성게의 포식자는 복족류 Neptuned arthritica와 별불가사리 Asterina pectinifera, 집게류 Pagurus cf. samuelis, 그리고 게류에 속하는 Atergatis integerrimus 등이며, 집게류인 Paguristes barbatus와 게류인 Actaea subglobosa도 가능성이 있는 포식자인 것으로 추정되었다 실험구 간 대비되는 관찰 결과로부터 (1)성게의 낮은 서식 밀도와 관련된 요인은 포식압이며, (2) 이는 조사 해역의 백화 현상의 발생, 유지와 낮은 포식압 간 가능한 상관관계를 제시하는 것으로 해석되었다.

k-SVM을 이용한 Rogue AP 탐지 기법 연구 (Detecting Rogue AP using k-SVM method)

  • 인가된 AP(Access Point)에 대해서만 사용을 허용하는 무선 통신 환경에서, 스마트폰의 테더링(tethering) 기능에 의한 로그 AP(rogue AP) 사용은 자료 유출과 같은 심각한 보안 문제를 발생시킨다. 이에 본 논문은 홉(hop) 간 RTT 값을 특징점(Feature)으로 하고 분류기로 k-SVM(Kernel Support Vector Machine)를 사용하여 로그 AP를 탐지하는 방법을 제안한다. 실험을 통해 유선 네트워크를 이용하여 설치한 일반 AP와 LTE 망을 활용하여 설치된 로그 AP 간의 구분이 가능함을 보였다.
