A newly developed Advanced Indentation System (AIS), which is a portable and nondestructive system for evaluating tensile properties, was used to measure mechanical behavior of materials used under high temperature and pressure conditions. This test measures indentation load-depth curve during indentation and analyzes the mechanical properties related to deformation and fracture. Aging effects of Cr-Mo and Cr-Mo-V steel at high temperature were simulated. Tensile properties including yield strength and tensile strength at various temperature are obtained from the test. For all test materials and conditions, the AIS-derived results were in good agreement with those from conventional standard test method. Examples of the test results ate given and potential applications of the AIS to assess the integrity of aging structures are briefly discussed.
In this paper, the selection of a reliable accelerated life test code for a 2-ton forklift was accomplished by choosing the driving resistance coefficient failure-free test time based on a 10,000-hour B10 life. The overall life and average equivalent load of the vehicle were then calculated based on actual driving test conditions using the selected driving resistance coefficient. The gear train's accelerated life test code was selected by adjusting the equivalent load to a torque and rotation speed that did not exceed 125%(about 75HP) of the vehicle rated power. The safety of the test standards was validated by conducting an actual accelerated life test utilizing the proposed test method in this study and comparing the test result with the corresponding theoretical value. It is anticipated that the reliability of the accelerated life test in this paper will be enhanced, by incorporating actual driving performance data collected directly from the forklift and adjusting the conditions used in developing the accelerated life test code.

Rolling contact fatigue and wear on rails are inevitable in railway operations due to excessive wheel-rail contact stress. The wear is influenced by vehicle speed, contact pressure, environmental conditions, and many other factors. Speeding on a curved track causes many problems such as wear on the gauge of the rail and rolling contact fatigue. Managing environmental conditions can reduce problems on the wheel and rail interface. In this study, the wear characteristics of wheel and rail materials were investigated by twin-disc testing using various parameters. The results of the wear test indicated that the wear rate under dry conditions was larger than that under wet conditions. We found that contact fatigue damage occurred on the rail in dry conditions, however, the surface of the specimen under water remained smooth. Also, the friction coefficient in dry conditions was larger than in wet conditions.

To set the similarity conditions between a prototype usually in the field and its reduced-scale model is a crucial part in model tests. No technique is available to keep perfect similarity for this procedure so far. The experimental work using a wind tunnel is not exceptional. based on the field measurements, the effect of stack parameters and wind conditions on the dispersion of stack plume has been investigated in the laboratory. in this paper intensive methodology is focused on matching these similarities. Due to the limitations to keep perfect similarity conditions some simplifications are involved in common. In this study geometric conditions and kinematic conditions using Froude number and Reynolds number have been con-sidered to keep the similarity conditions required. From the tests it is found that the critical Reynolds number (Recrit) is 2,700 when the height of stack discharge is 50mm. The dispersion has a similar trend for the higher Reynolds number than the critical Reynolds number. It is also found that different Froude number does not make any significant influence for the normalized tracer gas concentrations at the recipient providing the same ratio of the wind speed to the discharge speed. No significant effect of stack diameter is observed in the normalized tracer gas concentrations with the same Frounde number. The similarity conditions therefore used in this study are reliable to simulate the conditions in prototype into the wind tunnel tests.

In this work, we report the diagnostic relations among some primary pulse conditions such as the floating/sunken, deficient/forceful, large/fine, and the long/short pulses. For this purpose, we carried out a clinical test, in which 11 Oriental medical doctors had participated to diagnose the pulses for 1566 healthy subjects. The subjects were divided into 11 subgroups and each subgroup was allocated to an individual doctor. It resulted in that, for 847 subjects (54%), two or more than two pulse conditions were felt simultaneously, for which we counted the frequency of the pairs of the pulse conditions. For the statistical analysis, we used a Chi-square test. As a result, at high frequency, the forceful, large, and the long pulses were diagnosed in pairs or in their triplet, and a similar close relation was found between the deficient, fine, and the short pulses. The pairwise diagnoses of the pulse conditions between the forceful, large, and the long pulses, and between the deficient, fine, and the short pulses imply their close relatedness in clinics. This result is supported by the theory of deficiency/excess syndromes. Moreover, we show that the close relatedness among the pulse conditions can be understood in terms of the geometric features of the radial artery near the prominent bone. This is the first work which reports the relatedness between the primary pulses by an objective clinical test.

The insulation performance of the insulation currently used in building structures is reflected only during design based on initial performance and the reduction in heat insulation performance due to the degradation of long-term durability is not reflected. This study reviewed the degradation of heat insulation performance due to the durability degradation of insulating materials through the accelerated durability test. The study findings showed that the foamed polystyrene insulation bead method did not show performance degradation due to aging in the standard environmental condition and laboratory accelerated test condition but the performance is degraded in the freeze-thaw test condition. On the other hand, in the case of the extrusion method, the degradation of the heat insulation performance was less in the freeze-thaw test condition, but the rapid performance degradation was caused by the release of the internal gas at the beginning of aging. In addition, the hard polyurethane foam insulation showed better initial insulation performance than other insulation materials, but the performance was found to be degraded somewhat under laboratory accelerated test conditions and freeze-thaw test conditions.

The weather resistance of five coatings systems based on alkyd, chlorinated rubber, epoxy, polyurethane and fluoropolymer were studied by natural exposure test and accelerated test. The coatings were exposed at Hanoi station with urban industry atmosphere and at Baichay station with marine atmosphere. The degradation of coatings was evaluated by gloss measurement and surface analysis by scanning electronic microscopy. The results obtained show that among coatings tested the gloss of polyurethane and fluoropolymer coatings remained highly and those of alkyd, chlorinated rubber and epoxy coatings were very low after two years of atmospheric exposure. Under accelerating conditions the gloss of fluoropolymer coatings remained highly after 80 cycles of testing. By comparison with accelerating test in UV-condensation chamber the conditions at atmospheric stations are more aggressive.
Model material technique, which requires only the small space of experimental set-up and low cost for experiment, is used to estimate the deformed profile and the forging load in rotary forging. The materials and working conditions are determined to satisfy the similitude conditions between the model test and the prototype test. The model material of the so-called plasticine and the mild steel are chosen as specimens, and they represent almost the same value of strain gardening exponent in the stress-strain relationship. Lubricant in the model test is also carefully selected so that it gives the same frictional conditions at the tool-specimen interface. Experiments for two kinds of specimens are carried out in each testing equipment at room temperatue. From the experiments the deformed dimensions and the forging loads are measured and compared with each other by using the simulation coefficients. It is shown that there are good agreements between the model test and the prototype test. Finally, for verifying the availability of the model material technique this mathod is applied to forging of bevel gear product. the good result is obained which can demonstrate that the model material technique is very efficent for estimating or developing a new process.

Self-Boring Pressuremeter Test(SBPT) is known to be the most effective in-situ test method which can reliably determine consolidation characteristics as well as deformation modules and untrained shear strength. In order to derive the coefficient of consolidation using SBPT results it is necessary to obtain the dissipation behavior from the pore pressure change with time during constant radial strain(generally 10%) and to derive the reliable time factor(Τ) from the analytical method which considers the real in-situ conditions. As previous studies on time factor are based on the assumptions of plane strain condition that the membrane of SBP is infinite, of untrained condition during the expansion of the probe and of elastic soil behavior during consolidation, these analyses can't consider the real boundary conditions and the real soil behaviour. In this study, consolidation analysis similar to real in-situ conditions including test procedure is conducted using finite element program which employs MCC model and Biot theory. Time factor considering the effects of finite membrane length, the total pressure change during consolidation and partial drainage is proposed and compared with previous results.
The effectiveness of current biodegradation test methods for degradable polymers under controlled composting conditions was studied in regards to the test temperature and compost condition. When biodegradability tests for the natural (starch, cellulose, PHB/HV) and synthetic (PCL, SG, PLA) polymers were conducted at temperature levels of 35 and $55^{\circ}C$ with compost cured at ambient temperature, the degradations of cellulose and starch were higher at $35^{\circ}C$ because of the priming effect. On the other hand, degradations of other polymers were higher at $55^{\circ}C$. In the biodegradation test at $55^{\circ}C$, compost harvested right after the thermophilic degradation stage showed higher biodegradation activities than the cured compost for both the synthetic aliphatic polyester (SG) and a natural polymer, cellulose. These results suggest that the biodegradation test conducted at $55^{\circ}C$ with the compost, harvested right after the thermophilic degradation stage during composting, showed the highest biodegradation activity under controlled composting conditions.
