  • In this study, the method of deciding simulation test conditions is developed by computer program compared to actual vehicle test as accurately as possible. These results of analytical test conditions are conformed by simulation test using the brake dynamometer by comparison with test results of actual vehicle. Results of simulation test by these analytical results show good agreement with the vehicle test results. The analytical simulation test conditions provide the input data to brake dynamometer which follows : - each test inertia corresponding to braking deceleration - test condition of input control : brake line pressure - test condition of output control : braking torque

Rolling Test Simulation of Sea Transport of Spent Nuclear Fuel Under Normal Transport Conditions

  • In this study, the impact load resulting from collision with the fuel rods of surrogate spent nuclear fuel (SNF) assemblies was measured during a rolling test based on an analysis of the data from surrogate SNF-loaded sea transportation tests. Unfortunately, during the sea transportation tests, excessive rolling motion occurred on the ship during the test, causing the assemblies to slip and collide with the canister. Hence, we designed and conducted a separate test to simulate rolling in sea transportation to determine whether such impact loads can occur under normal conditions of SNF transport, with the test conditions for the fuel assembly to slide within the basket experimentally determined. Rolling tests were conducted while varying the rolling angle and frequency to determine the angles and frequencies at which the assemblies experienced slippage. The test results show that slippage of SNF assemblies can occur at angles of approximately 14° or greater because of rolling motion, which can generate impact loads. However, this result exceeds the conditions under which a vessel can depart for coastal navigation, thus deviating from the normal conditions required for SNF transport. Consequently, it is not necessary to consider such loads when evaluating the integrity of SNFs under normal transportation conditions.

  • Korean High Speed Train (KHST) has been tested on high speed line in JungBu site since it was developed in 2002. The KHST figured 7 cars was modeled for dynamic simulation with Vampire program. and the data acquisition system was used to test successfully the on-line test for proving the dynamic performance of KHST. The comparison between test and simulation results for dynamic behavior of KHST was tried in this paper and it was very difficult because the environmental conditions and running conditions have an effect on the test results and these conditions are unable to be modeled for dynamic analysis. Also the parameters for data acquisition system for test are usually not same to simulation conditions. Therefor, in this paper the acceleration data after filtering with low pass filter below 1Hz were used to compare between test and simulation results because the low frequency range is useful to evaluate the dynamic performance for railway vehicle system, so as steady state curving acceleration. The results show that both are similar in low frequency range.

  • These Study are for the development of the reliability assessment test code and test equipment and test procedures of the heavy sluice gate hydraulic cylinder. Because there is no reliability test code for the heavy sluice gate hydraulic cylinder inside and outside of the country, the modified reliability test code is made reference for the related existing standards like as ISO, JIS, MIL, TUV, DIN, KS and etc. In this study, the novel method is proposed to evaluate efficiency of the heavy sluice gate hydraulic cylinder on the loading conditions and established the conditions of the acceleration life test to reduce the testing time and cycles. The testing equipments for life test, lode operating test, high and low temperature test and salt spray test have been established for 8 month, and the reliability tests are accomplished. The test results of the heavy sluice gate hydraulic cylinder which is produced and tested initially in Korea are satisfied the durability life cycle on the using conditions.

  • In this study, in-situ performance test of an air source heat pump which has a arted capacity of 10 RT is carried out. Since test conditions, such as indoor and outdoor air conditions cannot be controlled to satisfy the standard test conditions, experiments are done with the inlet air conditions as they exist. To estimate the performance for other conditions, he heat pump is modeled with a small number of selected parameters. The values of the parameters are determined from the few measurements measured on-site during normal operation. A simulation program is developed to calculate cooling capacity and power consumption t any other operating conditions. The simulation results are in good agreement with the experiment. This study provides a method of an on-site performance diagnosis of an air source heat pump.

Statistical analysis of effects of test conditions on compressive strength of cement solidified radioactive waste

  • Radioactive waste should be solidified before being disposed of in the repository to eliminate liquidity or dispersibility. Cement is a widely used solidifying media for radioactive waste, and cement solidified waste should satisfy the minimum compressive strength of the waste acceptance criteria of a radioactive repository. Although the compressive strength of waste should be measured by the test method provided by the waste acceptance criteria, the method differs depending on the operating repository of different countries. Considering the measured compressive strength changes depending on test conditions, the effect of test conditions should be analyzed to avoid overestimation or underestimation of the compressive strength during disposal. We selected test conditions such as the height-to-diameter ratio, loading rate, and porosity as the main factors affecting the compressive strength of cement solidified radioactive waste. Owing to the large variance in measured compressive strength, the effects of the test conditions were analyzed via statistical analyses using parametric and nonparametric methods. The results showed that the test condition of the lower loading rate, with a height-to-diameter ratio of two, reflected the actual cement content well, while the porosity showed no correlation. The compressive strength assessment method that reflects the large variance of strengths was suggested.

  • The influence of the adhesive force test conditions on the resultant adhesive force was measured using a chloroprene rubber as an adhesive and a plywood as an adherent. It was clarified from the experiments which adhesive force test conditions could influence strongly the adhesive force. After this, the constant values neccessary as the test conditions of the adhesive force in making generally a test of the adhesive force determined.

  • This paper is an assessment on the dynamic test results of optical bench for LEO satellite. According to the design requirements, optical bench was designed and manufactured. Dynamic test was performed to verify stability of optical bench. Low level random vibration test, sine burst test and sine vibration test are carried out to identify dynamic characteristics and to verify static strength and safety under quasi-static load conditions. From the result it can be stated that the optical bench is well qualified under the launch environmental conditions.

  • Mathematical basis of interpretation of data from nondestructive evaluation (NDE) methods in bridge inspection is presented. In bridge inspection with NDE methods, NDE data are not assessments. NDE data must be interpreted as condition of element. Interpretation is then assessment. Correct assessments of conditions of bridge elements depend on the accuracy and variability in test data as well as on the uncertainty of correlations between attributes (what is measured) and conditions (what is sought in the inspection). Inaccuracy and variability in test data defines the qualify or NDE test. The qualify or test itself is important, but in view of condition assessment, the significance of uncertainty in correlations of attributes and conditions must be combined. NDE methods that are accurate in their measurements may still be found to be poor methods if attributes are uncertain indicators of condition of bridge elements. This paper reports mathematical presentation of inaccuracy and variability in test data and of uncertainty in correlation of attributes to element conditions with three examples of NDE methods.
