Wind load acting on a standalone structure is different from that acting on a similar structure which is surrounded by other structures in close proximity. The presence of other structures in the surrounding can change the wind flow regime around the principal structure and thus causing variation in wind loads compared to a standalone case. This variation on wind loads termed as interference effect depends on several factors like terrain category, geometry of the structure, orientation, wind incident angle, interfering distances etc., In the present study, a three building configuration is considered and the mean pressure coefficients on each face of principle building are determined in presence of two interfering buildings. Generally, wind loads on interfering buildings are determined from wind tunnel experiments. Computational fluid dynamic studies are being increasingly used to determine the wind loads recently. Whereas, wind tunnel tests are very expensive, the CFD simulation requires high computational cost and time. In this scenario, Artificial Neural Network (ANN) technique and Support Vector Regression (SVR) can be explored as alternative tools to study wind loads on structures. The present study uses these data-driven approaches to predict mean pressure coefficients on each face of principle building. Three typical arrangements of three building configuration viz. L shape, V shape and mirror of L shape arrangement are considered with varying interfering distances and wind incidence angles. Mean pressure coefficients (Cp mean) are predicted for 45 degrees wind incidence angle through ANN and SVR. Further, the critical faces of principal building, critical interfering distances and building arrangement which are more prone to wind loads are identified through this study. Among three types of building arrangements considered, a maximum of 3.9 times reduction in Cp mean values are noticed under Case B (V shape) building arrangement with 2.5B interfering distance. Effect of interfering distance and building arrangement on suction pressure on building faces has also been studied. Accordingly, Case C (mirror of L shape) building arrangement at a wind angle of 45º shows less suction pressure. Through this study, it was also observed that the increase of interfering distance may increase the suction pressure for all the cases of building configurations considered.

This study was conducted as restoration work to improve the discharge in forested wetlands where there is a concern of damage and observed changes in the discharge and groundwater level. The monthly changes showed that during the wet season, the amount of discharge decreased after restoration and GWL increased. It showed that during the dry season, the GWL and discharge increased. The increased discharge after restoration seems to be the difference in the number of days with no rainfall duration. The change in discharge for each unit of rainfall showed a tendency to increase the baseflow and decrease the direct discharge after restoration. The recharge ratio of GWL showed a decreasing tendency as rainfall was higher. After restoration, it showed a higher tendency under rainfall with less than 20mm. It has been confirmed that the restoration implemented by the study caused such an effect as the increased baseflow and increased GWL. It would be an effective restoration method to maintain water resources in forested wetlands. In the initial rainfall, it demonstrated a certain level of effect, but it is necessary to develop a restoration technology that can decrease the amount of water discharged after the end of rainfall or during the period of no rainfall to protect and maintain the forested wetlands. Streamflow should be identified by each type of terrain of wetlands and a proper restoration countermeasure should be devised for the site where the discharge frequently occurs.
Background and objective: The purpose of study is to analyze the three-dimensional (3D) structure by creating a 3D model for green spaces in a park using unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) images. Methods: After producing a digital surface model (DSM) and a digital terrain model (DTM) using UAV images taken in Mureung Park in Chuncheon-si, we generated a digital tree height model (DHM). In addition, we used the mean shift algorithm to test the classification accuracy, and obtain accurate tree height and volume measures through field survey. Results: Most of the tree species planted in Mureung Park were Pinus koraiensis, followed by Pinus densiflora, and Zelkova serrata, and most of the shrubs planted were Rhododendron yedoense, followed by Buxus microphylla, and Spiraea prunifolia. The average height of trees measured at the site was 7.8 m, and the average height estimated by the model was 7.5 m, showing a difference of about 0.3 m. As a result of the t-test, there was no significant difference between height values of the field survey data and the model. The estimated green coverage and volume of the study site using the UAV were 5,019 m2 and 14,897 m3, respectively, and the green coverage and volume measured through the field survey were 6,339 m2 and 17,167 m3. It was analyzed that the green coverage showed a difference of about 21% and the volume showed a difference of about 13%. Conclusion: The UAV equipped with RTK (Real-Time Kinematic) and GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) modules used in this study could collect information on tree height, green coverage, and volume with relatively high accuracy within a short period of time. This could serve as an alternative to overcome the limitations of time and cost in previous field surveys using remote sensing techniques.

Due to the complex terrain around high-speed railways, the windbreaks were established along different landforms, resulting in irregular windbreak transition regions between different subgrade infrastructures (flat ground, cutting, embankment, etc). In this paper, the effect of a windbreak transition on the wind flow around railways subjected to crosswinds was studied. Wind tunnel testing was conducted to study the wind speed change around a windbreak transition on flat ground with a uniform wind speed inflow, and the collected data were used to validate a numerical simulation based on a detached eddy simulation method. The validated numerical method was then used to investigate the effect of the windbreak transition from the flat ground to cutting (the "cutting" is a railway subgrade type formed by digging down from the original ground) for three different wind incidence angles of 90°, 75°, and 105°. The deterioration mechanism of the flow fields and the reasons behind the occurrence of the peak wind velocities were explained in detail. The results showed that for the windbreak transition on flat ground, the impact was small. For the transition from the flat ground to the cutting, the influence was relatively large. The significant increase in the wind speeds was due to the right-angle structure of the windbreak transition, which resulted in sudden changes of the wind velocity as well as the direction. In addition, the height mismatch in the transition region worsened the protective effect of a typical windbreak.

This study aims at evaluating the stability of disaster risks, such as schools, apartments, and geotechnical structures located around slopes in urban areas. The research conducted an aerial photography analysis on where the slope of the retaining wall behind 𐩒𐩒 High School in Gwangju collapsed in August 2018 due to heavy rain. In general, the overflow of rainwater has been managed through drainage channels around slopes during the rainy season, and the surface flow of rainfall was limited due to the presence of dense forests in the area. However, when the slope collapsed, a lot of water flowed out of the ground, and the saturated surface layer ground was destroyed. To analyze the cause, the changed terrain of the upper slope area, which could not be directly identified, was photographed using unmanned aerial vehicles. Digital Elevation Model by unmanned aerial vehicle shooting was performed by analyzing the slope map, calculating the direction of rainfall and the length and width of water-logged areas. The change in the instability of the slope over time due to a 10-day rainfall was also analyzed through numerical analysis.

As a means to cope with the climate change crisis caused by global warming, automobile manufacturers continue to make efforts to use the driving energy of vehicles as electricity. As a result, parts industry such as battery, motor, and controller are attracting attention. China is often seen in large cities, with electric vehicles such as electric bicycles, electric motorcycles, and small electric vehicles popularized and commercialized, mainly in large cities. However, small electric vehicles are not popular in Korea, which is why the country's topography is high in hills. In order to drive the hilly domestic roads, power performance including vehicle climbing ability should be improved. In order to improve the power performance and the climbing capacity of small electric vehicles, the capacity of the motor should be increased. However, when the performance of the motor is improved, the weight of the motor becomes heavy and the price competitiveness is likely to decrease. In addition, in order to operate a high-performance motor, the power consumption of the battery is rapidly increased, so various problems must be solved. In order to commercialize a small electric vehicle for one or two people who do not emit harmful exhaust gas to the human body in a hilly domestic terrain, it is effective to have a separate transmission system. In this study, we were conducted dynamometer test to produce a continuously variable transmission(CVT) system prototype using a spring that can be applied to a small electric vehicle and to install a CVT system prototype manufactured in a small electric vehicle. The dynamometer test results showed that the maximum speed performance, acceleration performance, and climbing performance were improved.
Floods represent extreme hydrological phenomena that affect populations, environment, social, political, and ecological systems. After the catastrophic floods that have hit Europe and the World in recent decades, the flood problem has become more current. At the EU level, a legal framework has been put in place with the entry into force of Directive 2007/60/EC on Flood Risk Assessment and Management (Flood Directive). Two years after the entry into force of the Floods Directive, Bosnia and Herzegovina (B&H), has adopted a Regulation on the types and content of water protection plans, which takes key steps and activities under the Floods Directive. The "Methodology for developing flood hazard and risk maps" (Methodology) was developed for the territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina, following the methodology used in the majority of EU member states, but with certain modifications to the country's characteristics. Accordingly, activities for the preparation of the Preliminary Flood Risk Assessment for each river basin district were completed in 2015 for the territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Activities on the production of hazard maps and flood risk maps are in progress. The results of probable climate change impact model forecasts should be included in the preparation of the Flood Risk Management Plans, which is the subsequent phase of implementing the Flood Directive. By the foregoing, the paper will give an example of the development of the hydrodynamic model of the Zujevina River, as well as the development of hazard and risk maps. Hazard and risk maps have been prepared for medium probability floods of 1/100 as well as for high probability floods of 1/20. The results of LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) recording were used to create a digital terrain model (DMR). It was noticed that there are big differences between the flood maps obtained by recording LiDAR techniques in relation to the previous flood maps obtained using georeferenced topographic maps. Particular attention is given to explaining the Methodology applied in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Slope failure in South Korea generally occurs by the localized heavy rain in a rainy season and typhoon, and it annually causes huge losses of both life and property because nearly 70% of territory in South Korea is covered with mountains. It is required to measure the risk of slope failure quantitatively before proper prevention methods are provided. However, there is no way to estimate the risk based on realtime rainfall, geological characteristics, and geotechnical engineering properties. This study presents the development of digital terrion model to predict slope stability using infinite slope stability theory combined with temporal groundwater change. Case studies were performed to investigate factors to affect slope stability in Japan.

With climate change and the global population growth, the frequency and scope of wildfires are constantly increasing, which threatened people's lives and property. For example, according to California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, in 2020, a total of 9,917 incidents related to wildfires were reported in California, with an estimated burned area of 4,257,863 acres, resulting in 33 fatalities and 10,488 structures damaged or destroyed. At the same time, the ongoing development of technology provides new tools to simulate and analyze the spread of wildfires. How to use new technology to reduce the losses caused by wildfire is an important research topic. A potentially feasible strategy is to simulate and analyze the spread of wildfires through computing technology to explore the impact of different factors (such as weather, terrain, etc.) on the spread of wildfires, figure out how to take preemptive/responsive measures to minimize potential losses caused by wildfires, and as a result achieve better management support of wildfires. In preparation for pursuing these goals, the authors used a powerful computing framework, Spark, developed by the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (CSIRO), to study the effects of different weather factors (wind speed, wind direction, air temperature, and relative humidity) on the spread of wildfires. The test results showed that wind is a key factor in determining the spread of wildfires. A stable weather condition (stable wind and air conditions) is beneficial to limit the spread of wildfires. Joint consideration of weather factors and environmental obstacles can help limit the threat of wildfires.
