  • The purpose of this work is to investigate fatigue damage of quasi-isotropic laminates under tensile loading in different directions. Low cycle fatigue tests of [0/-60/+60]a laminates and [+30/-30/90]s lamina tes were carried out. Material systems used are AS4/Epoxy and AS4/PEEK. The fatigue damage of [+30/-30/90]s is very different from that of [0/-60/+60]s. The position of delamination generated at AS4/Epoxy and AS$/PEEK laminates were differentiated by the matrix difference that is, we suppose, the value of both GIcr(critical energy release rate of mode-I) and GIIIcr(critical energy release rate of mode-III) difference.

  • Redistribution of residual stress and its effects during fatigue crack propagates from tensile residual stress region in weldment are investigated. Tests are performed by using welded CCT specimens of structual rolling steel (SS400) and it makes fatigue crack propagate from tensile residual stress region. For this study tension-tension loading type is selected by external loading condition and magnetizing stress indicator is used correctly to measure redistribution of residual stress according to fatigue crack growth and number of loading cycles. From this result, it is proved that redistribution of residual stress is mainly consist of residual stress released by fatigue crack growth. When fatigue crack propagates from tensile residual stress region residual stress are redistributed and it makes fatigue crack growth rate largely increase. Fatigue crack growth rate is low in case of redistributed residual stress compare with initial distributed residual stress.

  • This study discusses a non-contact optical technique, electronic speckle pattern interferometry(ESPI), that is well suited for in-plane and out-of-plane deformation measurement. AS4/PEEK[30/-30/90]s, composite laminate plate was analyzed by ESPI to determine the vibration characteristics with tensile loading and without it. vibration mode shapes are quantitatively compared with the result of numerical analysis. The experimental results agree well with those of numerical analysis. we found that when the composite laminate plate is under the tensile loading, vibration modes can be measured with high accuracy by ESPI.

  • Carbon-carbon composite material is the reinforced carbon fiber. Because of its high strength, elasticity and the excellent heat-resisting property in high temperature, carbon-carbon composite material has been used in many fields such as aerospace and automotive industries, etc. Especially, aircraft brake discs used at aerospace can be cracked due to its fatigue and vibration under various loading condition. This research is focused on the influence of the vibration of carbon-carbon composite material by using accelerometer with impact hammer excitation. And the change of vibration mode will be known by applying tensile loading test.

  • Mechanical properties of the materials used for transportations and industrial machinery under high strain rate loading conditions such as seismic loading are required to provide appropriate safety assessment to these mechanical structures. The split Hopkinson Pressure Bar (SHPB) technique with a special experimental apparatus can be used to obtain the material behavior under high strain rate loading conditions. In this paper, dynamic deformation behaviors of the aluminum alloys such as A12024-T4, A16061-T6, and A17075-T6 under both high strain rate compressive and tensile loading conditions are determined using the SHPB technique.

  • The purposes of this study are to verify a reasonable model of material characteristic and to propose a rational model of reinforcement characteristic considering monotonic and cyclic loading about manufactured reinforcing steel in Korea. Longitudinal reinforcements of the plastic hinge region were behaved tensile deformation and compressional deformation by direction of lateral loading. However Confinement steels were behaved only tensile deformation by lateral loading. Transverse steels were laid the state of tension in the lateral loading of time, and they were laid state that stress is zero when it was removed lateral load. The tests for cyclic tension loading were performed for test variable as yield strength and reinforcement bar sizes. It was estimated that the total strain energy per unit volume was 74 $MJ/m^3$. The modified ultimate concrete compression strain model was proposed based on experimental study of cyclic tension test for manufactured reinforcing steel in Korea.

  • Molecular dynamics (MD) simulations are used to analyze behavior of copper nanowires under cyclic loading. The embedded atom method (EAM) potential is employed to represent atomic interaction. Cyclic load is applied in two ways (Forward Tension / Reverse Compression and Forward Compression / Reverse Tension). The results show that dislocations are piled up as a result of plastic deformation during alternate tensile and compressive loading. After cyclic loading with a change of direction, yield stress decreases in consequence of the effect by the dislocation pileups. On the other hand, under FC/RT cyclic load, phase transformation represent associated with mechanical twinning. And copper nanowire can return to almost former undeformed condition during tensile loading at 300K.

  • The parametric instability behaviour of a plate subjected to localized in-plane compressive or tensile periodic edge loading is studied, considering the effects of damping into the system. Different edge loading cases have been considered. Damping has been introduced in the form of proportional damping. Dynamic instability behaviour under compressive or tensile periodic edge loading shows that the instability regions are influenced by the load band width and its location on the edge. The effects of damping on the instability regions show that there is a critical value of dynamic load factor beyond which the plate becomes dynamically unstable. The critical dynamic load factor increases as damping increases. Damping generally reduces the widths of the instability regions.

  • Residual stress by welding should be reduced because that decreases the reliability on strength of welded structure. The reason is that the total stiffness of structure decreases by non-linear behavior of weldment under external load. The release of residual stress by mechanical loading and unloading is often performed in the fabrication of box structure for steel bridge. The proper degree of loading and unloading is significant at release method of residual stress by mechanical loading because that degree is changed by material and geometric shape of welded structure. Therefore, the simulation model that could exactly analyze the release of residual stress by mechanical loading is to be necessary. This simulation model should be established on the based of variable and accurate measurement data. In this study, the non-linear behavior of weldments under external loading and unloading, such as the decrease and increase of structure stiffness, was investigated by monitoring of nominal stress and strain. Tensile loading and unloading test under variable load was performed and the proper degree of stress relaxation was measured by sectioning technique using strain gauge.
