This paper suggests a new CT-image segmentation algorithm. This algorithm uses morphological filters and the watershed algorithms. The proposed CT-image segmentation algorithm consists of six parts: preprocessing, image simplification, feature extraction, decision making, region merging, and postprocessing. By combining spatial and temporal information, we can get more accurate segmentation results. The simulation results illustrate not only the segmentation results of the conventional scheme but also the results of the proposed scheme; this comparison illustrates the efficacy of the proposed technique. Furthermore, we compare the various medical images of the structuring elements. Indeed, to illustrate the improvement of coding efficiency in postprocessing, we use differential chain coding for the shape coding of results.
We studied the spatio-temporal characteristics of the Ullung Warm Lens (UWL) using the historical oceanographic data of the National Fisheries Research and Development Agency of Korea in the East Sea from 1967 to 1983. The UWL is basically a subsurface phenomenin found in 100 to 300m depths, and its existence is not well posed in the distribution of the sea surface temperature. The UWL has a typical size of 100 km diameter, and its center migrates within the region of 150 by 150 km south of the Ullung Island. The UWL is almost a permanent feature, and the probability of its occurence within our study area ($129\~132^{\circ}E,\;36\~38^{\circ}N)\;was\;86\%$.
In satellite remote sensing, irregular temporal sampling is a common feature of geophysical and biological process on the earth's surface. Lee (2008) proposed a feed-back system using a harmonic model of single period to adaptively reconstruct observation image series contaminated by noises resulted from mechanical problems or environmental conditions. However, the simple sinusoidal model of single period may not be appropriate for temporal physical processes of land surface. A complex model of multiple periods would be more proper to represent inter-annual and inner-annual variations of surface parameters. This study extended to use a multi-periodic harmonic model, which is expressed as the sum of a series of sine waves, for the adaptive system. For the system assessment, simulation data were generated from a model of negative errors, based on the fact that the observation is mainly suppressed by bad weather. The experimental results of this simulation study show the potentiality of the proposed system for real-time monitoring on the image series observed by imperfect sensing technology from the environment which are frequently influenced by bad weather.

As deep learning technologies becoming developed, realistic fake videos synthesized by deep learning models called "Deepfake" videos became even more difficult to distinguish from original videos. As fake news or Deepfake blackmailing are causing confusion and serious problems, this paper suggests a novel model detecting Deepfake videos. We chose Residual Convolutional Neural Network (Resnet50) as an extraction model and Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) which is a form of Recurrent Neural Network (RNN) as a classification model. We adopted cosine similarity with hinge loss to train our extraction model in embedding the features of Deepfake and original video. The result in this paper demonstrates that temporal features in the videos are essential for detecting Deepfake videos.

Recent research has highlighted the effectiveness of Deep Learning (DL) techniques in automating the detection of lung sound anomalies. However, the available lung sound datasets often suffer from limitations in both size and balance, prompting DL methods to employ data preprocessing such as augmentation and transfer learning techniques. These strategies, while valuable, contribute to the increased complexity of DL models and necessitate substantial training memory. In this study, we proposed a streamlined and lightweight DL method but effectively detects lung sound anomalies from small and imbalanced dataset. The utilization of 1D dilated convolutional neural networks enhances sensitivity to lung sound anomalies by efficiently capturing deep temporal features and small variations. We conducted a comprehensive evaluation of the ICBHI dataset and achieved a notable improvement over state-of-the-art results, increasing the average score of sensitivity and specificity metrics by 2.7%.

In this paper, we present a sign language recognition model which does not use any wearable devices for object tracking. The system design issues and implementation issues such as data representation, feature extraction and pattern classification methods are discussed. The proposed data representation method for sign language patterns is robust for spatio-temporal variances of feature points. We present a feature extraction technique which can improve the computation speed by reducing the amount of feature data. A neural network model which is capable of incremental learning is described and the behaviors and learning algorithm of the model are introduced. We have defined a measure which reflects the relevance between the feature values and the pattern classes. The measure makes it possible to select more effective features without any degradation of performance. Through the experiments using six types of sign language patterns, the proposed model is evaluated empirically.
Facial expression recognition is an intensive research area for designing Human Computer Interfaces. In this work, we present a new facial expression recognition system utilizing Enhanced Independent Component Analysis (EICA) for feature extraction and discrete Hidden Markov Model (HMM) for recognition. Our proposed approach for the first time deals with sequential images of emotion-specific facial data analyzed with EICA and recognized with HMM. Performance of our proposed system has been compared to the conventional approaches where Principal and Independent Component Analysis are utilized for feature extraction. Our preliminary results show that our proposed algorithm produces improved recognition rates in comparison to previous works.
This study was investigated developmental temporal features in Putonghua-speaking children. The total of 212 children between the ages 2;6 and 6;5 participated in Shanghai. Speech materials were constructed according to aspiration feature in stop sounds of Putonghua. Six words were selected in this study. A voice onset time was measured. Non-parametric procedures were employed for all the analyses. The VOT value across bilabial, alveolar, and velar stops was significantly differed between aspirated and unaspirated stops for each age group. Effect of age is. significant for unaspirated stops. It is clear that each of Putonghua stops showed decreasing mean and standard deviation. The overshoot phenomenon of VOT was apparent from the age of 2;6-2;11 to 4;6-4;11. There was high variability in the production of lag time for aspirated stops.
In this paper, alternative dynamic features for speech recognition are proposed. The goal of this work is to improve speech recognition accuracy by deriving the representation of distinctive dynamic characteristics from a speech spectrum. This work was inspired by two temporal dynamics of a speech signal. One is the highly non-stationary nature of speech, and the other is the inter-frame change of a speech spectrum. We adopt the use of a sub-frame spectrum analyzer to capture very rapid spectral changes within a speech analysis frame. In addition, we attempt to measure spectral fluctuations of a more complex manner as opposed to traditional dynamic features such as delta or double-delta. To evaluate the proposed features, speech recognition tests over smartphone environments were conducted. The experimental results show that the feature streams simply combined with the proposed features are effective for an improvement in the recognition accuracy of a hidden Markov model-based speech recognizer.
Image registration is an essential process to analyze the time series of satellite images for the purpose of image fusion and change detection. The Mutual Information (MI) is commonly used as similarity measure for image registration because of its robustness to noise. Due to the radiometric differences, it is not easy to apply MI to multi-temporal satellite images using directly the pixel intensity. Image features for MI are more abundantly obtained by employing a Gabor filter which varies adaptively with the filter characteristics such as filter size, frequency and orientation for each pixel. In this paper we employed Bidirectional Gabor Filter Energy (BGFE) defined by Gabor filter features and applied the BGFE to similarity measure calculation as an image feature for MI. The experiment results show that the proposed method is more robust than the conventional MI method combined with intensity or gradient magnitude.
