  • When evaluating the quality of images and displays, it is important to combine the characteristics as perceived by the human visual system and measured by equipment using subjective and objective methods, respectively. In the case of objective methods, the quality of a display is measured using colorimetric or radiometric devices according to existing standards covering the color temperature, gamut size, gamma characteristic, and device characterization. Meanwhile, subjective methods assess the quality of an image using the human visual system based on a comparison with a reference or counterpart using such metrics as the sharpness, noise, contrast, saturation, and color accuracy. Objective and subjective methods are usually used together in comparison, as ultimately it is observers watching images on a display. In addition to existing objective methods, a new image quality metric is also introduced as regards the JPEG compression ratio that is reflected in the relationship between the gamut size and the color fidelity in CIELAB color space.

  • Domestic power plants have consistently been developed over the years in industrially developed nations with high standards of living. Considering the power plant development strategy, design efficiency is of upmost importance. Therefore, an improper design directly affects the power plant's risk management plan and the potential risks of the piping system. Therefore, in this study, research is intended to be carried out to allow efficient power plant operation, through optimization of the design of the piping system. The purpose of the study is to confirm economic feasibility by changing the piping loop design, expanding the length of pipe loops, and to investigate the thermal stress influence on the piping system through simulations of systems similar in condition to those currently used in existing plants in Korea.

  • The verified thermal efficiency, thermal capacity confirmed the effects of the cooling system. Therefore, it is useful for preventing the PV cell temperature rising when solar radiation accumulates in summer. When adopting a hybrid panel for the BIPV system, the affected areas include the vertical outside walls facing the south, southeast, and southwest on the curtain walls excluding windows. The standards on replace aluminum panel which were the popular exterior material were investigated, Designing practice made sure that it could be manufactured in various sizes, and confirmed the most proper method to install a hybrid panel in the BIPV system.

  • A theory of bidirectional reflectance-distribution function (BRDF), a newly developed BRDF measurement system, and a method for evaluating the uncertainty of BRDF measurements are presented. The BRDF measurement system which measures BRDF in a wavelength range of (380~1500) nm with an angle range of $(-75{\sim}75)^{\circ}$ was installed. The measurement uncertainties, consisting of correlated terms and uncorrelated terms, were evaluated for the BRDF measurement system, resulting in the relative expanded uncertainty less than 3% (k=2).

  • The purposes of this study were to analyze criteria for measurement chamber design dedicated curtain wall, and how to measure of performance configuration and status of the chamber that is currently being used. Main dealing criteria is AAMA 1503-09. Measurement of data is made in curtain wall Mock-up experiment station with thermal imaging camera. Measurement data using thermal imaging cameras at Mock-up curtain was made at the test site. The results of this study were as follows; There is no U-value test method for actual size of curtain wall. The thermal test outdoor chamber showed heat loss in the connection part of indoor and outdoor chamber. And the indoor chamber showed unstable temperature distribution by height.

  • Linear motor can directly apply to the system needed linear mot ions without rotary mot ions. To control a high-speed and high-resolution, the development of the linear motors is recently required in the high-integrated and speed process industry. This paper presents vibration analyses as well as measurement standards of the newly developed linear motors through analyzing the vibration characteristics and thermal behaviors of the advanced products. Vibration experiments are conducted for identifying the hysteresis and vibration level during operation. They are also included in the modal test to analyze the vibration. Analytic data using Finite Element Method (FEM) are compared with the results of the modal. Loss of temperature generated the linear motor leads to a serious deformation within its parts. The thermal behaviors are very important factor in linear motor. The FEM and experiments make it possible to understand these characteristics.

  • Performance based design is a recent evolutionary step in the process of designing fire protection systems. In essence, it is a logical design process resulting in a solution that achieves a specified performance. Sometimes the prescriptive solutions presented in various codes and standards are too expensive or inflexible. Often the solutions do not and enables optimization of a solution for cost and function. In this study, performance based design was carried out to determine the extent of passive fire protection for oil terminal facilities. The results of performance based design were compared with those of prescriptive code based design. Performance based design is not always more economic than prescriptive code based design but provides more reliable and effective design that is fit for the purpose.

  • Magnetic contactors (MCs) are widely used in industrial equipment such as elevators, cranes and factory control rooms in order to close and open the control circuits. The reliability of MCs mainly depend on mechanical durability and international standards such as IEC 60947-4-1, which stipulates the testing method for MCs. Testing time, however, is so long in usual cases that a method of reducing testing time is required. Therefore, a temperature and voltage-accelerated life testing (ALT) method has been developed to reduce the testing time in this work. The accelerated life test data are analyzed and acceleration factors (AFs) are provided.

  • This study was carried out to develop low density board made of rice hull which needs proper use. Urea formaldehyde adhesive(UF) was used. The raw materials were the mixtures of the rice hulls from IllFum, DongGin, ChuChong, etc. The physical and mechanical properties of rice hull insulation board were examined. The results are as follows : For the thickness of 15mm of the low density rice hull board bonded with UF resin, proper manufacturing conditions were $171^{\circ}C$ of hot pressing temperature with thickness bar for optimum density, 12 percent of resin solid contents of rice hull ovendry weight, and 20 minutes of hot pressing time. These conditions meet Korean standards(KS 3201-1982) in relation to free formaldehyde emission, bending strength, water absorption and heat resistance.

  • A 150 m$^{3}$/hr, 30 kg/cm$^{2}$, air-cooled 3-stage reciprocating air compressor is designed to be used in starting large diesel engines. A basic design procedure is presented to meet the targeted pressure and flow rate, and especially the volumetric efficiency. Temperature and stress analyses of the cylinder are performed using FEM modelings. The dynamics of valve system is analyzed and stress at the valve seat due to valve impact is evaluated. To reduce friction loss and wear at the compressor engine system, tribological design practices are suggested. Fin-type coolers are designed to dissipate generated compression heat at each stage. Finally, a prototype is manufactured and performance test is carried out utilizing an air tank. Performance results are compared to the design targets, other foreign specifications, and some quality standards.
