This study analyzes the characteristics of material transportation between Busan new-port and Nakdong river estuary. Measurements of water temperate, salinity, turbidity, and tide is also analyzed to determine the characteristics of sea water and described the tidal current between two regions. For the purpose of indicating characteristics of tidal current numerical modeling is used. From the observed results, the total volume transport of sea water calculations revealed $184.71m^3/sec$ and residual volume transport was $(+)59.74m^3/sec$ during the 1st field measurement, and the total volume transport was $331.15m^3/sec$ and residual volume transport was $(-)28.88m^3/sec$ during the 2nd. The numerical simulation for three different topography cases are calculated. The results are summarized as follows: 1) The volume of material transportation about $0.7\sim18.4%$ is decreased as the depth of Busan new-port decrease (10 m). 2) The volume of material transportation about $3.5\sim21.9%$ is increased, as channel(water depth is 5 m) constructed to the Nakdong river estuary direction.

Phylogeny of the family Ophioglossaceae and a phylogenetic position of Mankyua were estimated through analyses of chloroplast rbcL gene sequences and spore morphology. Sequence analysis of the rbcL gene clearly indicated that there are two major lineages in the family Ophioglossaceae: Botrychioid lineage and Ophioglossoid lineage. The Botrichioid lineage is composed of three distinct clades: Botrychium, Helminthostachys and Mankyua, where Helminthostachys and Mankyua were placed as sister groups to the Botrychium. Within the genus Botrychium, subgenera Septridium and Botrychium were monophyletic, while taxa of subgen. Botrypus branched as sister of the two, successively, thus making a non-monophyletic group. Ophioglossum formed the Ophioglossoied lineage, where the subgen. Ophioglossum is monophyletic, while subgen. Cheiroglossa and Ophoderma formed a sister relationship with subgen. Ophioglossum. In terms of external morphology and spores, Mankyua is most similar to Helminthostachys, however, patristic distance in the cladogram and trophophore characteristics of the two genera are distinct. Therefore, Mankyua is a well defined genus within the family in terms of morphology as well as molecular phylogeny which places it in basal position of the Botrychioid lineage on the gene tree.
Chromosome analysis using karyotyping and bicolor FISH were carried out for two Maackia species (M. fauriei and M. amurensis) found in Korea. The somatic metaphase chromosome number was 2n = 2x = 18 in both, and the size of these chromosomes ranged from 3.58 to $5.82{\mu}m$. The chromosome complements consisted of two pairs of metacentric (chromosomes 1 and 7), four pairs of submetacentrics (chromosomes 4, 6, 8 and 9) and three pairs of subtelocentrics (chromosomes 2, 3 and 5) in M. fauriei but, chromosomes 4 (subtelocentric) and 7 (submetacentric) of M. amurensis have different morphology. Using bicolor FISH, a pair of 45S rDNA loci were observed for both M. fauriei and M. amurensis, but the number and site of the 5S rDNA signal were different in the two species. M. fauriei has two pairs of 5S signals on chromosomes 7 and 8 but, M. amurensis has four paris on chromosomes 3, 4, 7 and 7. Hence, the 5S rDNA is a useful FISH for Maackia species.
Effects of air temperature and 50% shading for 20 days at each growth stages (from 33days before heading, from heading and from 20days after heading) on the productivity of Tongil (IR667-Suweon 214) and Jinheung rice (Oriza sativa.) were as follows. 1. Shading decreased yield by 48, 98 and 18% for Tongil and 73.71 and 12% for Jinheung during ear formation, heading and milky stage, respectively. 2. Shading most severely affected filled-grain ratio in both varieties except shading during milky stage of Jinheung that more affected grain weight. 3. Optimum mean air temperature for maximum crop growth rate appears to be $25^{\circ}C$ and clitical temperature $22^{\circ}C$ for Tongil but these for Jinheung seem to be lower. Solar radiation greater than $300cal/cm^2$ day appears to be enough. 4. Maximum crop growth rate of Tongil always advanced that of Jinheung. 5. Tropical Tongil variety appeared to be more tolerant to high temperature and low solar radiation before heading than temperate Jinheung. Thus Tongil will be more productively adapted to the high temperature-low solar radiation period in rice season which mostly overlaps with ear formation stage.
This study measures the influence of grass cover on water use and shoot growth of apple trees growing under different soil water regimes in temperate climate conditions and evaluates monthly crop coefficients of such conditions during four months of the growing season in 1995. To do so, double pot lysimeter experiments of 3-year-old Fuji' apple (Males domestica Borkh.) trees under a transparent rain shield were designed and installed. Trees were triplicate under three soil water regimes: (A) drip-irrigation at -50 kPa of soil matric potential (IR50). (B) drip-irrigation at -80 kPa of soil matric potential (IR80), and (C) constant shallow water table at 0.45 m below the soil surface (WT45). In each treatment, two soil surface conditions were tested: the soil surface bare, and covered with turf grasses. Mean monthly water use increased with increasing soil matric potential for drip irrigation and was greatest in the WT45 treatment. Monthly crop coefficients increased linearly in time for drip-irrigated apple trees ($r^2$ values of $0.953^{***}$ for turf grass-covered system and of $0.862^{***}$ for bare surface system), while those obtained in the WT45 treatment fluctuated, Duncan's multiple range tests for shoot growth showed that grass-covered IR50 was most favorable to apple trees. while bare surface waterlogged situation was most adverse at least in part due to a lack of oxygen in the root zone. Mid-season leaf Kjeldahl-N was higher in drip-irrigated apple trees than in WT45 trees, while soil Kjeldahl-N was not different irrespective of treatments.
Soil seed bank community contributes to the long-term conservation of plant diversity and vegetation dynamics, and their decreasing diversity and density with soil depth provide critical perspectives (deterministic and stochastic) for understanding the community disassembly process. We analyzed changes in species composition and diversity and structuring patterns by soil layer (top and bottom), including surface vegetation, in Gwangneung Forest, a mature forest with a vegetation climate in the temperate central part of the Korean Peninsula. From two layers of soil collected with a vertical difference of 10 cm, 934 specimens of 27 families, 40 genera, 44 species, three varieties, and 47 taxa, germinated. Although species diversity and germination density decreased in most comparative characteristics, including growth type, there was no statistical significance due to large deviations. Within-group variability of species composition was similar in the upper and lower soils, as was the decline pattern in co-occurred species (ζ-diversity) and change in species retention probability. The structuring process of the community composition in the two soil layers was fitted with an exponential correlation rather than a power function, demonstrating the dominance of the stochastic process. The pattern in diversity and species turnover according to soil depth in Gwangneung Forest was discovered to be structured by stochastic random events, such as seed vertical movement rather than interaction with trait characteristics.
Recently, peoples are greatly concerned with global temperature change because global warming can be a potential serious effect on agriculture production such as yield reduction and poor grain quality. On the other hand, it can bring some beneficial effects through twice cultivation of rice in temperate region. In order to overcome this situation, we developed extremely early-maturing rice 'Milyang255' which heading date was similar with 'Jinbuolbyeo'. Based on agronomic characteristics of 'Milyang255', it has very short stature as 65 cm of culm length and slightly lower spikelets number per panicle compared with that of 'Jinbuolbyeo'. However, the grain appearance, palatability and other items were better than those of 'Jinbuolbyeo' in panel test of cooked rice. The milled rice yield of 'Milyang255' is 3.94 MT/ha at the early transplanting. Especially, its grain filling rate was higher and faster than Jinbuolbyeo and the head rice ratio in milled rice was also higher. Thus, 'Milyang255' can efficiently reduce the growth duration of rice cultivation and also be useful material for research on twice cultivation of rice in Korea.
This study analyzed the characteristics of vegetation structure of the camphor tree (Cinnamomum japonicum) community in the area of mount Tachibana, Kasuya county, Fukuoka Prefecture designated as a special natural monument in Japan. The survey showed overwhelming dominance of canopy tree in the canopy layer (about 30 m in tree heights and 92.79 cm in average breast height diameter) but no appearance in the understory layer or the shrub layer. In the understory layer and the shrub layer, Castanopsis sieboldii, Machilus thunbergii, Neolitsea sericea, and Cinnamomum yabunikkei, which were the competing species to the canopy layer and the late-successional species in the warm temperate climate zone, were mainly distributed. Moreover, the species diversity was generally low, indicating the vegetation characteristics that was not typical of evergreen broad-leaved forests. This is presumably because camphor trees were actively planted, protected, and cultivated to produce camphor which was valuable in the past. Although this site has not been artificially managed for the past 90 years as the raw materials of camphor have not been collected, vegetation transition did not proceed, which is unique. It is probably due to the fact that camphor was overwhelmingly dominant in the canopy layer so that the inflows of species were restricted, and young tree germination did not occur due to the allelopathy effects of camphor trees.
