  • SPICA (Space Infrared Telescope for Cosmology and Astrophysics) is an infrared astronomical satellite with a 3.5 m cooled telescope which is very powerful in mid- and far- infrared observations and makes complementary role to JWST and Herschel. SPICA will be launched at ambient temperature without any cryogen into the Sun-Earth L2 orbit and cooled down in space to 4.5 K with use of efficient radiative cooling and mechanical coolers. The present status of SPICA and the developments of the satellite system are reported.

  • From 2009, CEOU of Seoul National University has been utilizing the United Kingdom Infrared Telescope (UKIRT) at Mauna Kea, Hawaii, as one of its research facilities. UKIRT is a telescope with 3.8m primary mirror, and it is currently the largest telescope specialized for infrared observations. We will summarize our research activities using UKIRT, which include Infrared Medium-deep Survey (IMS) of proto-clusters and high redshift quasars, NIR imaging programs of Gamma Ray Bursts (GRBs), Gamma Ray sources, and SNUQSO quasars. Our research programs include international collaboration with the UK GRB team, the NASA/Swift team, Pomona College, and National Central University of Taiwan. We will also touch on our future plan of using UKIRT.

  • In this paper we present a newly improved telescope control software and a newly developed data analysis software package for effective use of the Solar Flare Telescope(SOFT) The telescope control software permits us to make not only auto tacking of the SOFT, but also quantitative measurement of the solar irradiation, allowing us to provide weather monitorings. In addition we introduce an IDL widget software package for both monochromatioc (MONO version) and polarimetric data (VMG version) analysis. The MONO version is capable of loading FITS files, changing colors and contrast, image processing, displaying plots, and saving displayed plots by selected formats The VMG version, on the other hand provides a calibration of polarimetric data and plots of reduced vector magnetic fields.

  • National Youth Space Center will complete installation of the NYSC 1m Telescope in this year. Before completion of the telescope, we present the software design of JTCS, and the preliminary result of tracking performance by JTCS and mount of the telescope. JTCS currently uses commercial software of the Sky X, for the real-time coordinates of various objects, such as asteroids, comets, and even satellites. In order to guarantee flexibility in CCD detectors, the MaxIm DL software was adopted and JTCS provides auto-guiding and scheduled image-taking with MaxIm DL. We are now stabilizing the telescope mount and JTCS with long-exposure tests, and gathering the preliminary data of tracking performance.

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate a cases which was treated with konus telescope on the patients in bilaterally edentulous mandible. Author made konus telescope for two patients and then X-ray and clinical examination were used for evaluation of the function and change in supporting structure of the abutment teeth during the 60months. Patient complained of difficulties in removal of denture at the beginning but they got used to it soon. X-ray showed that there were no changes in supporting structure of the abutment teeth after 60 months. It was effective in promotion of ridge soreness and also reducing the need of relining. This study suggest that konus telescope was effective for the treatment of bilaterally edentulous situations.

  • We have improved the control and driving system of 16' reflector at Kwanak Observatory at Seoul National University, by completing encoder unit, and by developing programs for correction of errors resulting from hardware defects. The hardware defects of this telescope system are the large backlash and the nonuniform tracking and pointing. The telescope pointing accuracy for RA is improved to a few arc minutes, and that for DEC is several tens of arc minutes. The guiding error is improved to 0.7 arcsec/minute, allowing up to 3 minutes exposure for CCD imaging under typical seeing conditions at the Observatory.
