Purpose - This study examines a bundling effect on production and distribution in a patent-protected industry. Despite the heavy use of bundling strategies in the information and technology industry, literature has paid scant attention to bundling of intellectual property rights. This study examines a theoretical exploration of the bundling effect on licensing behavior. Research design, data, and methodology - To address this behavior, we build a simplified model consisting of three stages: 1) bundling decision, 2) licensing agreement, and 3) competition. The subgame perfect Nash equilibrium is applied to the model. Results - A single-patent holder with superior technology grants its own license to the multiple-patent firm, thereby leaving the market. Anticipating the single right holder's licensing strategy, the multiple-patent firm offers a bundle, making the single-right holder's bargaining position weaker. Conclusions - Bundling is an effective business strategy, resulting in multiple products for a firm as it faces other firms with single-product lines in each market. Taking advantage of the multi-patent or multi-product lines, the firm utilizes the bundling strategy obtaining better technology from the standalone single-patent firms.

본 연구의 목표는 프로 스포츠 산업에서 라이센싱 제품의 소비 촉진을 위해 서비스 품질을 통해서 필요한 기초 자료를 제공하는 것이다. 특히 현재 연구는 프로스포츠에서 서비스 품질과 라이센스 상품의 구매의도와의 영향력을 조사하고, 동일시의 조절효과를 평가하고자 한다. 이를 위해 서울과 중소도시에 거주하는 사람을 모집단으로 설정한 후 편의표본추출법을 이용하여 총271명의 자료를 실제 분석에 사용하였다. 이를 통해 얻어진 결론은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 프로스포츠의 서비스품질은 라이센스 제품의 구매의도에 정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났으나, 그러나 단독으로 동일시는 유의미한 영향력이 나타나지 않았다. 둘째. 조절변수로서 동일시의 효과를 검증한 결과 서비스 품질의 스타플레이어와 라이센스 제품의 구매의도의 관계에서 정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 따라서 프로스포츠에 스폰서로 참여하는 기업은 성적, 매력성, 스타플레이어 그리고 지역연고와 같은 프로스포츠 서비스품질에 의해 스포츠팬과 동일시됨으로서 라이센스 제품의 구매의도를 촉진시킬 수 있음을 입증하였다.

This is a case study to analyze the role of technology licensing or transfer office (TLO) as factors of success for the spin-off from government research lab. The case company is a research lab startup, which is a joint venture through technology investment by a government research lab or university in the designated R&D parks and cash investment by the partner company. The case company listed on the stock market in 2015 reaching a market capitalization of US$ 1.2 billion. We confirm the success factors of startups pointed out in many studies: original technology, good understanding of core technology and production technology, technological competitiveness in the market. However, there is an important factor not well discussed in the previous studies, the role of TLO. TLO guided the company ownership, management, technology, and solved problems that pause business itself. The case became the sample of research lab startup and technology investment in Korea.

"Scaling" plays an important role for safety analyses in the licensing of water cooled nuclear power reactors. Accident analyses, a sub set of safety analyses, is mostly based on nuclear reactor system thermal hydraulics, and therefore based on an adequate experimental data base, and in recent licensing applications, on best estimate computer code calculations. In the field of nuclear reactor technology, only a small set of the needed experiments can be executed at a nuclear power plant; the major part of experiments, either because of economics or because of safety concerns, has to be executed at reduced scale facilities. How to address the scaling issue has been the subject of numerous investigations in the past few decades (a lot of work has been performed in the 80thies and 90thies of the last century), and is still the focus of many scientific studies. The present paper proposes a "roadmap" to scaling. Key elements are the "scaling-pyramid", related "scaling bridges" and a logical path across scaling achievements (which constitute the "scaling puzzle"). The objective is addressing the scaling issue when demonstrating the applicability of the system codes, the "key-to-scaling", in the licensing process of a nuclear power plant. The proposed "road map to scaling" aims at solving the "scaling puzzle", by introducing a unified approach to the problem.

Studies on compensation structures of international technology licensing show that the level of intellectual property protection in the host market and the favorableness of the host country's economic environment are positively related to the use of running royalty-based compensation structure. Lump-sum fee or fixed royalty compensation is more likely to be used in the introduction and decline stages of the technology life cycle, and running royalty compensation in the growth stage. The international experience and the size of the licensor company are positively related to the use of running royalty. In this theoretical context, this paper analyzes the choice of compensation structures in Korean technology imports. The paper uses the officially reported data to analyze the compensation structures. It analyzes the characteristics of the compensation structures in terms of fixed royalty and running royalty by licensor country, group of licensor countries and size of licensee companies.

인쇄환경에서의 도서관은 장서 구입을 통하여 이용자에게 무제한 접근과 영구 이용을 지원한다. 이와 달리 전자환경에서의 도서관은 대부분의 전자정보 서비스를 일정기간 동안만 접속할 수 있고 특정 조건하에 이용 가능하도록 지원한다. 전자정보의 접속은 라이선스 취득을 통하여 가능하며 전자정보의 라이센싱이란 전자정보를 제공하는 출판사 혹은 정보제공자인 라이센서(licensor)와 전자자원을 구입하려는 도서관인 라이센시(licensee)간 협상한 내용에 상호 동의하여 계약하는 절차라 할 수 있다. 도서관에서는 이제 필요한 전자정보를 확충하기 위하여 구입(purchasing)하는 것이 아닌 라이센싱(licensing)을 해야 한다. 본 논고에서는 라이센싱 관련 현안들을 살펴보고 전자정보의 선정 기준과 라이센싱 관련 원칙 및 고려사항에 대하여 문헌을 중심으로 조사한다. 본 논고에서 정리하여 제시한 사항들이 국내 대학도서관의 해외 전자정보 담당자 업무에 참고자료가 될 수 있으리라 기대한다.

Server consolidation and virtualization have become an integral part of IT planning to reduce TCO cost and ensure the high availability for customer, enlarge the flexibility to computing resource in today' enterprise data centers. In spite of having the variety advantages of server consolidation and virtualization, they cause many problems such as the software licensing issues, virtual server sprawl, network complexity issues, hardware start-up costs, and failover costs. In particular, software licensing problem brings about the serious results in operating of data center and also presents a significant challenge to virtualization because many vendors have realized that licensing policies applicable to physical systems are not compatible with virtual machines. So, the IT planers must be considering this problem before they conducts the server consolidation and virtualization. In this paper, we proposed the efficiency strategy of SW licensing for server consolidation and virtualization analyzing the N-Datacenter case in Korea. As a result, we suggest the two strategies as technical and management/contract aspect. First, as the technical aspect, we propose i) the adaptation of suitable licensing for virtualization, ii) differentiation of license according to the characteristics of server, iii) the core distribution of licenses to minimizing. Second, as the management/contract aspect, we suggest following three things. i) The existing license agreement is changed to the right licensing for virtualization. ii) The license agreement is contracts the active focused. iii) When a new contract should be added to virtualization provisions.

본고는 제약분야 라이센싱 거래의 기초가 되는 주요 경제적 조건에 근거한 분석적 접근방법을 검토하기 위한 것이다. 그 목적은 관련된 주요 요인들 간의 관계에 대한 이해를 높이는 것이다. 여기에서 제기되는 몇 가지 논점은 다음과 같다. 즉, 신약개발의 특징인 대규모 투자, 고위험 및 긴 개발기간 등의 수익에 대한 효과, 최종 매출수준과 영업이익이 적정 로열티율에 미치는 효과, 선불금 및 신약개발 단계별로 지불될 마일스톤 기술료와 약품이 시장에 진입된 후에 지불될 기술료간의 관계 등이 그것이다. 본고에서는 먼저 제약분야 기술이전 거래의 로열티 결정을 위한 사전 단계로서, 기술가치평가의 주요 방법과 특징을 살펴보고, 다음으로 로열티 결정을 위한 주요요소인 기대이익, 매출액, 각종 비용, 투자 등의 측정방법을 검토한다. 그리고 이러한 주요 요소의 측정에 기초하여 로열티와 이윤율, 기술제공자와 기술도입자 간의 이익배분, 로열티의 산출과 결정방식에 대해 고찰하고자 한다.

최근 국가 연구개발 성과 기술이전 사업화 정책이 강력하게 추진되고, 기업도 미래 경쟁력 강화를 위해서 라이선스 전략을 도입하고 있다. 라이선스 거래에서 협상 당사자들이 수용할 수 있는 객관적이고 합리적인 로열티 정보가 요구된다. 본 연구에서 상관행법 로열티 정보와 로열티 영향요인(기술성, 시장성, 권리성) 평가 결과를 결합하여 경상로열티를 추정할 수 있는 방법을 제시하였다. 분석결과 업종별 상관행법 로열티 적정 범위와 기술거래사례 로열티 정보 사이에 유사성이 높은 것으로 나타고, 분석결과 상관행법 로열티의 활용 타당성을 확인하였다. 최종 경상로열티 추정을 위하여 상관행법 로열티 범위와 로열티 영향요인 분석 결과를 결합한 선형함수를 이용하였다. 본 연구결과는 라이선스 협상과정에서 객관적이고 합리적인 경상로열티를 산출하는데 유용하게 활용될 수 있을 것이다.

본 연구는 전 세계적으로 1990년에서 1999년 사이에 발생한 기술 라이센스 거래에 관한 자료를 바탕으로, 기업들이 속한 국가의 지적 재산권 보호정도를 포함한 국가별 고유 특성들이 기업들의 라이센스 거래 상대 선택에 어떻게 영향을 미치는 가를 살펴본다. 연구 결과, 기술 보유 기업들은 지적 재산권이 잘 보호되는 나라의 기업들에게 더 많은 라이센스를 주었다. 또한 경제적 자유가 많은 나라로의 기술 라이센스 이전이 보다 활발하다.
