  • The following Technology Report was written with respect to recent offshore technology development. This report was prepared with the purpose of suggesting recent offshore technology and upcoming visions by describing the principles of an offshore drilling operation, the NL Tensioner Cylinder Package R & D, and the general technology related to three offshore patent areas, as major contents.

  • Korean mobile communications industry has been a main locomotive of the drastic development of Korean IT industry and became one of core industries in national economy. To secure strong competitiveness of mobile communications industry, smooth cooperation should be reconsidered among government, universities, research institutions, and private companies. Future mobile communications technology will be evolved from IMT-2000 to system upgrade, 3.5G and 4G. And the goals of technology development are provision of mobile multimedia services based on better mobility and higher data speed rates. Therefore, Korea's technology development strategies of mobile communications should be focused on intensifying bondage of international cooperation, strengthening standardization activities, and enhancing core technology development capability to secure IPR.

Gonadal Development and Reproduction in the Trumpet Shell, Charonia sauliae

  • This study devised and tested a histological staging system for gonadal development in the trumpet shell, Charonia sauliae, which was collected along the south coast of Jeju Island, South Korea. This paper details for the first time the gonadal development characteristics of C. sauliae. Ovary and testis development in C. sauliae can be roughly divided into five stages: growing, mature, spent, degenerative, and resting. The trumpet shelll has multiple fecundation and fertilization during the spawning season for out-of-step gonadal development in high-temperature and low-salinity environments. Female trumpet shell tended to have larger shells and were more abundant than males (64.26% of all animals collected were female).

  • 단지조성은 택지, 산업, 관광단지 등을 조성함에 있어 반드시 필요하다. 그러나 단지조성에서의 건설자동화기술 개발 및 적용은 다소 느린 편이다. 단지조성에 막대한 예산과 자원이 투입되는 만큼, 토공분야 건설자동화기술 적용을 통해 거둘 수 있는 긍정적 효과는 매우 크므로 단지조성 토공부문 건설자동화 기술을 우선적으로 개발해야 할 필요가 있다. 본 논문에서는 국내외 선진 토공 기술을 조사하여 개발 필요성이 있는 8가지 후보기술을 도출 하였으며, 이를 AHP와 연구개발부문 종사자를 주 대상으로 설문을 통해 기술 우선순위를 도출하였다. 그 결과 건설자동화 수준별 맞춤 관제 기술과 관제 플랫폼화 기술이 가장 높은 우선순위로 나타났으며, 민감도 분석을 통해서 평가 요인별 가중치에 따른 순위 변화 추이도 분석하였다. 이를 통해 단지조성 토공부문 건설자동화 기술의 연구개발 추진 및 로드맵을 수립하였다.

  • Application of space technology in the field of communication and remote sensing becomes increasingly important in human life. Advancement of communications means shinks the size of our globe and that of remote sensing techniques improves the quality of human well-being. It is a world trent for each country to make its best effort in advancing its capabilities in these fields sometimes independently and other times jointly with other nations. Korea being no exception to this world trend is planning various starategies in application and development of space technologies. However, unfortunately, Korea is a new commer in this field. Statellite Technology Research Center (SaTReC) of Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) initiated to aquire satellite technology by sending its graduates abroad in 1989. As a result KITSAT-1 was launched in 1992 and KITSAT- 2 was launched in 1993 and they became Korea's first two satellites in orbits. Academic program including On-the Job-Training for Korean students at the University of Surrey, UK, is also an innovative scheme of mixing education and practical know-how for successful technology transfer, which resulted in a small but very capable and effective satellite experts group in Korea for self-propelled research and development in space activities. In this context, space development strategy should be considered in terms of the following factors; (1). Participation in international space activities as an active member to utilize international organization and to contribute to the peaceful use of space, (2). Development of national defence structure for independent activities in space, (3). Enhancement of manpower utilization for space development and promotion of national pride and (4). Education of youngsters for the extension of intellectual activities into the limitless space. In order to make very costly space development project most efficient, governmental level space development organization directed by the head of nation should be established and should manage all space development programs making full use of its all available resources including the advantage of the university based R&D capability.

From Fragmented Development to Three-Dimensional and Coordinated Development - Research on Renewal Strategies of Existing Underground Commercial Space in Harbin

  • In Harbin, a network of underground commercial spaces has been developed to occupy spaces that were originally created as civil defense shelters. With the gradual extension of the local metro rail system, the existing underground commercial space is no longer an isolated regional development, but a space that represents "three-dimensional city" and coordinated development taking place in many Chinese cities. Based on the analysis of the unique development process taken in underground space of Harbin, this paper summarizes three characteristics of its early model of "fragmented development" of underground space. By conducting a comprehensive field research and survey, the researchers analyzed 472 questionnaires related to the development trend, and proposed multi-level synergistic elements for the renewal and development of underground commercial space. The paper concludes by discussing the trend of "three-dimensional and collaborative development," suitable for the development needs of the new era, and the corresponding development strategies for the renewal of underground space.

합리적 기술 활용이 연구개발에 미치는 영향: 의료기기 개발 사례를 중심으로 (The Impact of Technology Utilization on Health Research and Development: Case Studies of the Development of Medical Device)

  • Background: Based on that the key function of health technology is improving the quality of healthcare services, our study purports to explore the process of medical device development in detail and to discuss its policy implications. Methods: A total of 12 in-depth interviews were conducted with four groups of industry, hospital, academia, and civil society. All of the interviewees except those from civil society were involved in the new medical device development between 2009 and 2018. We performed a text network analysis and content analysis of the interview data. Results: The frequency and the degree centrality rankings suggested a close association between the utilization issue and the technology development. Similarly, the results of the content analysis showed that the appropriate intervention in the utilization of technology has a direct impact on the progress of development. Under the continuous industrial effort to boost profits by developing new technology, service providers and citizens should be knowledgeable of and make good use of the new technology for the provision of better services. Conclusion: As the development itself would not guarantee the improvement of service quality and better health outcomes, health technology policies should take a more comprehensive view to serve the unmet needs and even to facilitate the technology development.
