  • Industry convergence is the inexorable trend, which has become a fundamental concept to understand the industrial dynamics and to develop business strategies. However, most of the previous studies on convergence have dealt with the issues at the macro-level (technology- or industry-level), little attention has been paid to the analysis of convergence at the micro level (firm-level). Recognizing that firms are the principal agents that develop fusion technologies, it is encouraged to help firms to work together for technology convergence. Therefore, this research proposes a collaboration model for SMEs, since SMEs tend to have novel ideas and are flexible enough to make fusion-technology. To do this, we conducted a survey for Korean SMEs and analyzed their successful cases of collaboration, which was used as a basis to develop the model. The research results will help develop strategy or policy to promote the collaboration between SMEs and ultimately to make a fusion-technology.

  • Big data analysis in healthcare research seems to be a necessary strategy for the convergence of sports science and technology in the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution. The purpose of this study is to provide the basic review to secure the diversity of big data and healthcare convergence by discussing the concept, analysis method, and application examples of big data and by exploring the application. Text mining, data mining, opinion mining, process mining, cluster analysis, and social network analysis is currently used. Identifying high-risk factor for a certain condition, determining specific health determinants for diseases, monitoring bio signals, predicting diseases, providing training and treatments, and analyzing healthcare measurements would be possible via big data analysis. As a further work, the big data characteristics provide very appropriate basis to use promising software platforms for development of applications that can handle big data in healthcare and even more in sports science.

  • The alarming climate change impacts are demanding the use of renewable energy sources like never before. Hydropower is one of the most cost-effective and environmental friendly energy technology recognized in the world. Big hydropower projects come up with the requirements of huge investment costs along with environmental impacts, whereas small hydropower(SHP) are considered a best solution for the economical source of energy. SHP, basically Run-of-River (RoR) type plants can be sustainable renewable energy sources and given the nature of perennial rivers flowing from steep gradient and rugged topography, feasibility of such plants is equally high in Nepal. The objective of this study is to determine the primary potential sites for the development of RoR type SHP sites using Geo-spatial Information System(GSIS). The use of GSIS enables precise survey of large area within a short period of time. This study has focused on the determination of locations by establishing defined criterions and methodologies and hence have located multiple locations rather than selecting one best location. The approach is applicable for the rapid initial screening of potential locations and results can facilitate detail feasibility study for the technical and economic analysis of SHP in the basin.

  • This paper proposes a method to estimate directly the incoherent scattered intensity and radar cross section (RCS) from the effective permittivity of a random media. The proposed method is derived from the original concept of incoherent scattering. The incoherent scattered field is expressed as a simple formula. Therefore, to reduce computation time, the proposed method can estimate the incoherent scattered intensity and RCS of a random media. To verify the potential of the proposed method for the desired applications, we conducted a Monte-Carlo analysis using the method of moments; we characterized the accuracy of the proposed method using the normalized mean square error (NMSE). In addition, several medium parameters, such as the density of scatterers and analysis volume, were studied to understand their effect on the scattering characteristics of a random media. The results of the Monte-Carlo analysis show good agreement with those of the proposed method, and the NMSE values of the proposed method and Monte-Carlo analysis are relatively small at less than 0.05.

  • The use of Pipelines for long-distance transportation of crude oil, natural gas and similar applications is increasing and has pivotal importance in recent times. High specific strength plays a crucial role in improving transport efficiency through increased pressure and improved laying efficiency through reduced diameter and weight of line pipes. TRIP-based high-strength and high-ductility alloys comprise a mixture of ferrite, bainite, and retained austenite that provide excellent mechanical properties such as dimensional stability, fatigue strength, and impact toughness. This study performs microstructure analysis using both Nital etching and LePera etching methods. At the time of Nital etching, it is difficult to distinctly observe second phase. However, using LePera etching conditions it is possible to distinctly measure the M/A phase and ferrite matrix. The fraction measurement was done using OM and SEM images which give similar results for the average volume fraction of the phases. Although it is possible to distinguish the M/A phase from the SEM image of the sample subjected to LePera etching. However, using Nital etching is nearly impossible. Nital etching is good at specific phase analysis than LePera etching when using SEM images.

  • For the analysis of multiple-reaction intermediates for long-chain dicarboxylic acid biotransformation, simple and reproducible methods of extraction and derivatization were developed on the basis of gas chromatography with flame ionization detector (GC-FID) instead of mass spectrometry. In the derivatization step, change of the ratio of pyridine to MSTFA from 1:3 to 9:1 resulted in higher peak intensity (p = 0.021) and reproducibility (0.6%CV) when analyzing 32 g/l ricinoleic acid (RA). Extraction of RA and ω-hydroxyundec-9-enoic acid with water containing 100 mM Tween 80 showed 90.4-99.9% relative extraction efficiency and 2-7%CV compared with those with hydrophobic ethyl acetate. In conclusion, reduction of the pyridine content and change of the extraction solvent to water with Tween 80 provided compatible derivatization and extraction methods to GC-FID-based analysis of longchain carboxylic acids.

  • High contrast grating (HCG) is the structure made up of the sub-wavelength grating of high-index and the surrounding layer of low-index, which reveals high contrast between two materials. Its advantages include high reflectivity over a broad bandwidth, polarization and wavelength selectivity, optical high-Q resonator, and phase modulation. In this work, the HCG structure comprising of indium tin oxide (ITO) and Silicon (Si), for the surrounding layer and the grating layer respectively, was studied. Its theoretical model was established, and transmittance, phase and optical behavior were calculated by rigorous coupled-wave analysis and finite element method. Furthermore, the established structure was fabricated to validate its feasibility. The fabricated structure shows the focusing capability whose length is about $10{\mu}m$, and the feasibility of the structure was demonstrated. It is also meaningful that ITO layer can contribute to the fabrication of the HCG structure, leading to enable the structure to be electrical-driven.

  • This paper is concerned with the investigation on the stability and convergence characteristics of the Crank-Nicolson-Galerkin scheme that is widely being employed for the numerical approximation of parabolic-type partial differential equations. Here, we present the theoretical analysis on its consistency and convergence, and we carry out the numerical experiments to examine the effect of the time-step size △t on the h- and P-convergence rates for various mesh sizes h and approximation orders P. We observed that the optimal convergence rates are achieved only when △t, h and P are chosen such that the total error is not affected by the oscillation behavior. In such case, △t is in linear relation with DOF, and furthermore its size depends on the singularity intensity of problems.

  • This study aimed to explore research on bibliometric features of cannabis by applying scientometric analysis method, and to approach experimental research evaluation based on it. A total of 30,352 articles on cannabis published since 2001 from SCOPUS were analyzed using KnowledgeMatrix Plus and VOSviewer software. Results showed differences in research activities in countries where cannabis is legalized (Canada, the United States, the Netherlands) and Asian countries where its use is illegal. Related to medical cannabis, there has been a noticeable increase in the number of studies on pain, epilepsy, seizures and brain diseases such as multiple sclerosis. In the field of basic research, the number of pharmacological studies of cannabis on the cannabinoid type 1 receptor signaling pathway and inflammation and obesity has increased significantly. Subsequent experimental studies have compared the anti-inflammatory effects of four parts of Korean cannabis such as root, stem, leaf, and bark. Consistent with the predicted results of the scientometric analysis, all parts of C. sativa showed inhibitory effects on COX-2, NO/iNOS and TNF-α expression in LPS-stimulated RAW264.7 cells. These attempts provide an experimental research approach based on scientometric assessment.
