  • This study analyzed the classroom discourse between teacher and students based on the Mehan(1979a)'s theory to examine the characteristics of the classroom discourse between teacher and students in high school statistics class. The results of this study on the structure of class showed that the statistics class in this study adopted knowledge transmission-oriented teacher-led class in which the framework of introductiondevelopment- arrangement, which is Mehan's basic 3 stages, is clearly represented. The results of examining I-R-E sequence showed that $I_T-R_T$ structure, in which the teacher asks questions and the teacher talks about the answer, frequently appeared. And the statistics class in this study was monological class in which students hardly participated. Through these results of this study, it was found that teacher should form the statistical context, in which students can participate in discourse, and build discourse learning community and induce argumentational discourse through metaprocess elicitation.

  • The purposes of this study were to identify the significance of a nutrition teacher, to analyze the importance of competence as a nutrition teacher and to evaluate the importance and difficulty for duties of nutrition teachers. The questionnaire was distributed to 554 preliminary teachers and a total of 468 usable data were collected with 84.5% of response rate from August to October 2006. The statistical data analysis was completed by using SPSS Win (ver. 10.0) for descriptive analysis, t-test, ANOVA and ${\chi}^2-test$. The results were as follows: Preliminary nutrition teachers expected that conversion of a school dietitian into a nutrition teacher could lead to systematic and constant nutrition education and come into synergic effect by doing meal service with nutrition education. For a teacher's competence, all three paradigms were perceived as important. It was evaluated to be high for a knowledge factor in the empirical analytic paradigm, a personality factor in the practical interpretive paradigm and an attitude factor in the critical emancipatory paradigm. And 'a knowledge for nutrition and sanitation (4.59)' and 'an ability to raise a self-management capacity for right food habit and dietary life (4.59)' were showed as most important in a nutrition teacher. It appeared that both important and difficult duties of nutrition teachers were nutrition education, nutrition counseling and sanitation quality of nutrition education; the most necessary solution was to develop a reference and program for nutrition education (37.4%). In conclusion, the systematic supports of district offices of education and associated institutions as well as sustained efforts of preliminary nutrition teachers for themselves should lead to establish a successful system of nutrition teachers.

Data were collected using the efficacy of child care and education index, the job-stress instrument, and the job-satisfaction instrument, and were analyzed using t-test, one-way ANOVA(Duncan test), correlation analysis and multiple regression analysis. There were significant differences in child care and education teacher's job-satisfaction according to the teacher-related variables, including the type of institution, the number of classes, the age of children, the education, the teaching experience, the income, the age of teacher, and the marital status of the teacher. Correlation analysis indicated that the teacher's efficacy of child care and education and the job-satisfaction had significant correlations, especially the satisfaction of job itself indicated high positive correlations. Job-stress and job-satisfaction of the child care and education teachers had significant negative correlations in all sub-variables, especially the stress from the working environment and the satisfaction of administration system indicated high negative correlations. • This study explores the characteristics of within-school and across-school science teacher professional learning communities (hereafter, PLC) qualitatively. In-depth focus group interviews were conducted with science teachers belonging to seven PLCs within the science core school and three PLCs across schools. Interview questions include identity and motivation, major activities, and outcomes of PLC, as well as shortcomings and support plans for PLC. The results include both within-school and across-school science teacher PLCs formed for professional development related to science teaching and learning. Both science PLCs participated in the study showed the characteristics of a 'practice community' that developed a cooperative relationship through reciprocal participation, focusing on shared issues among members. Regarding issues, within-school PLCs focused on microscopic problems such as curriculum reconstruction of subject-matter, while across-school PLCs focused on macro problems such as teacher professional development. Regarding activities and roles as PLC, within-school and across-school science PLCs shared such features as collaborative professional development, and interpersonal education such as mentoring for novice teachers. In terms of PLC's influence and outcomes, science teacher PLCs has a positive effect not only on the teachers themselves, but also on the students and the teacher culture in the school. In addition, science teacher PLCs need improvement of the physical conditions for community operation, and software support such as protocol provision for PLC operation and joint research or re-education with universities. In particular, joint research between universities and science teacher PLCs shows the future orientation of the PLC as an 'inquiry community'. Based on the results, the necessity of active support for science PLC, the necessity of developing a cooperative system between science teacher PLC and universities, and ways to spread the PLC of science core schools to that of general schools were proposed.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationships of early childhood teachers' communication ability, teacher efficacy, and organizational effectiveness of child care centers. The subjects of this study were 397 teachers working at child care centers. The results of this study were as follows. First, differences in the organization effectiveness of child care centers were detected according to teachers' age, career, type of child care center where they were affiliated, and marriage status. Second, the relative effects of the teachers' communication ability and teacher efficacy on the organizational effectiveness of early-childhood educational institutions differed significantly according to each sub-factor; teachers' communication ability's sub-factors - response, analysis, and evaluation - and teacher efficacy's sub-factors - general efficacy and personal efficacy - had partial effects on the organizational effectiveness of child care centers. Of these, personal efficacy had the greatest effects on all sub-factors of organizational effectiveness. This study is significant since it identifies the variables that could affect the organizational effectiveness of child care centers.

The conclusions were as follows; Physical education curriculum should be organized to reduce and diversify of the sport contents in various levels. Also, it should instruct students based on physical educational knowledge, and it is made up to know the achievement of goals through evaluation tools and development of rules having propriety and reliability. Such a physical educational curriculum developed from real class should inform continuously throughout the Ministry of Education & Human Resources Development and educational organization of physical education teachers and network of the school and mass media. So, it makes most people's recognition raise up, and we need discretionary authority of physical education teacher about time allocation of 45 minutes or 50 minutes for variety of lessons. • The purpose of this study is to show that research community activities can contribute to the professional development in respect of average concepts and mathematical creativity. In the community, activities were undertaken to transform the existing task into the task that contributes to the manifestation of creativity. In this process, researchers tried to connect the theory with the practice of the class, and the teacher acted as an active learner. The findings show that the teacher who had difficulty in teaching average could overcome difficulties, and also derived the way of task modification and strategies necessary for teaching average. The modified task induced improvements in students' achievement levels, which led to change in teachers' perspective on the relationship between mathematical creativity and learning. Research community activities have been shown to have contributed to improvements with regard to both teaching the average and promoting mathematical creativity.
