목질계 제지용 충전제 개발을 위한 기초연구(I) (Fundamental Study on Developing Lignocellulosic Fillers for Papermaking(I))

  • Wastewoods (logging residues) generated in Korea were used to make lignocellulosic fillers for papermaking. Lignocellulosic fillers could play great roles to increase retention efficiency and thus decrease turbidity of white water in papermaking process. In addition, lignocellulosic fillers could be used to improve physical properties of paper through their high affinity to cellulosic fibers, leading to the less use of chemical additives like retention aids. Wastewoods including Pinus densiflora and Quercus variabilis were chemically and mechanically treated for making fine particles passing through 100 mesh wire. The newly generated fillers showed larger particle size distribution than ground calcium carbonates but similar distribution to talc. In particular, pretreatment by hot water was more effective to generate smaller particle size than by alkali treatment. Lignocellulosic particles mixed with ground calcium carbonates under intense hybridizing condition greatly contributed to surface coverage of organic fillers in addition to filling to lumen and pits.

  • The flexography ink has disadvantage in a deinking process because it tends to form too fine particles in alkali condition to be removed in flotation deinking. The influence of pH conditions on the particle size of phthalocyanine cyan ink used for flexo-printing was investigated to see the effect of pH conditions on flexography ink dispersion. Flexography ink particles prepared by grinding dried ink films were used in this experiment. Greater reduction of the ink particle size was noticed under alkaline pH condition, which was attributed to dissolution of resin component of the ink. Adsorption behavior of flexography ink onto pigment particles was examined using clay and talc as substrate pigments. Pretreatment of inorganic pigments with a cationic poly-DADMAC increased the surface adsorption of flexography ink particles, which improved the removal of the inks by centrifugal sedimentation of inorganic pigments. Most efficient removal of the ink particles was achieved when an optimal addition level of the cationic polymer was used for pretreatment of inorganic pigments, and this optimal addition level corresponds to the surface saturation point of the polyelectrolyte. Adsorption of flexography ink particles onto inorganic pigments improved the ink removal in flotation deinking since the pigment particles has the optimal particle size for flotation deinking.

Cordierite의 합성 및 내화갑제조에 관한 연구 (Synthesis of Cordierite and Preparation of Refractory Setter from Domestic Raw Materials)

  • In order to obtain the superior refractory setter having better spalling resistance, cordierite was synthesized from domestic raw materials. Raw mixtures were fired between 125$0^{\circ}C$ and 140$0^{\circ}C$, and qualitative determination of crytallization was investigated by x-ray diffraction analysis. The results obtained are as follows; 1) The optimum batch composition of synthesized cordierite is 80.5% of Hadong kaolin (pink), 14% of Kyulsung tromolite talc and 5.5% of magnesia clinker, and the firing temperature is 1375$^{\circ}C$. 2) The composition of the refractory setter which exhibits the best values for the thermal properties is 40% of synthesized cordierite, 30% of kaolin chamotte(contains more than 60% of mullite), and 30% of Japanese clay. 3) The optimum particle size distribution of ternary mixture consists of 50% of coarse articles (3.327-1.168mm), 25% of intermediate particles (1.168-0.208mm) and 25% of fine particles (0.208-0.000mm).

식품첨가물중 불용성광물성물질의 물리화학적 특성 (Physicochemical Properties of Insoluble Mineral Substances in Food Additives)

  • 식품첨가물로서 사용되어지고 있는 불용성광물성물질인 규조토 3품목, 백도토 1품목, 벤토나이트 10품목, 산성백토 13품목, 탈크 3품목 및 퍼라이트 2품목 등 총 32품목의 시료를 대상으로 그 기본적인 구성 광물 성상 및 화학성분 특성을 비교 분석하고 각 시료들의 입도 분포와 백색도 등을 측정하였다. 분석대상 시료인 불용성광물성물질들의 화학성분 분석 및 XRD(X-Ray Diffractometer) 분석결과는 백도토를 제외한 모든 불용성광물성물질들은 그 화학적 조성비가 보고된 문헌에서와 같이 일치하였으며, 다만 백색도는 탈크, 규조토 및 백도토의 경우에만 90%수준으로 측정되었다. 분석대상 불용성광물성물질에 대한 중금속의 분석결과는 납(Pb)은 $nd{\sim}23.10$ ppm, 카드뮴(Cd)은 $nd{\sim}0.67$ ppm, 수은(Hg)은 $nd{\sim}0.58$ ppm, 비소(As)는 $nd{\sim}l.42$ ppm 및 구리(Cu)는 $nd{\sim}39.35$ ppm이 검출되었다. 이들 분석대상 불용성광물성물질들의 중금속 분석결과는 기준에 비해 낮은 수치이다.

미생물 살균제 Paenibacillus sp. AC-1 입제의 물리화학적 특성 (Physicochemical properties of granular formulation using Paenibacillus sp. AC-1 as a microbial fungicide)

  • 유기합성농약의 부작용을 최소화하고, 미생물 농약의 실용화를 목적으로 Paenibacillus sp. AC-1 건조 분말 그리고 여러 가지 보조제 및 증량제를 이용하여 입제를 제조하였으며, 이들 제제에 대한 물리화학적 특성을 연구하였다. 시제품은 Paenibacillus sp. AC-1 건조분말을 사용하여 고추역병 방제용 입제 4종을 제조하였다. 증량제 종류별 원제에 대한 영향은 talc가 가장 안정하였으며, 시제품 제조시 균주 생존성은 시제품 모두 제조 후에 안정하였다. Paenibacillus sp. AC-1 건조분말을 사용한 시제품의 물리화학적 특성 중 시제품 모두 입제의 품질규격에 적합하였다. Paenibacillus sp. AC-1 건조분말을 사용한 입제의 저장온도별 균주 안정성은 $4{\sim}50^{\circ}C$의 온도 범위에서 12주후까지도 안정하였다. 입제의 균 수중용출은 처리 7시간 후에 Paenibacillus sp. AC-1 균이 90% 이상 용출되었으며, 입자붕괴성은 처리 1일 후에 완전히 붕괴되었다. 이상의 결과를 종합할 때, Paenibacillus sp. AC-1를 이용한 고추역병 방제용 미생물 살균제의 실용화를 위한 제조처방은 원제로서 AC-1 건조분말 20%, 보조제로서 sodium polyacrylate 1.0%, 계면활성제로서 polycarboxylate를 주제로한 제제 7%, 증량제로서 나머지를 talc로 사용하는 것이 Paenibacillus sp. AC-1의 입제 제조에 최적 조건이었다.

Characterization of the Physicochemical Properties of KR-31378

  • KR-31378 is a new drug candidate intended for the use in the prevention of ischemia-reperfusion damage. The objective of this preformulation study was to determine the physicochemical properties of KR-31378. The n-octanol to water partition coefficients of KR-31378 were 0.0504 at pH 3 and 0.8874 at pH 10. Accelerated stability of KR-31378 in solution and solid state was studied at 5, 40, $60^{\circ}C$. The stability testing indicated that the t90 for the drug in solid was estimated to be 2 years and 128.6 days at $25^{\circ}C$, while the that in aquesou solution was 68.6 days at $25^{\circ}C$. The KR-31378 was also found to be unstable under the relative humidity of 76%, probably because of the hygroscopic nature of the drug. In order to study compatibility of KR-31378 with typical excipients, potential change in differential scanning calorimetry spectrum was studied in 1:1 binary mixtures of KR-31378 and Aerosil, Avicel, Eudragit, lactose, PEG, talc, CMC, PVP, starch. As a result, CMC, PVP, and starch were found to be incompatible with KR-31378, indicating the addition of these excipients may complicate the manufacturing of the formulation for the drug. Particle size distribution of KR-31378 powder was in the size range of 9-93 $\mu$ m with the mean particle size of 37.9 $\mu$ m. The flowability of KR-31378 was apparently inadequate, indicating the granulation may be necessary for the processing of the drug to solid dosage forms. Crystallization of the drug with a number of organic solvents did not lead a crystalline polymorphism. In addition, dissolution of the drug from the powder was adequately rapid at $37^{\circ}C$ in water.

폐기 무기 부산물의 제지용 충전제로의 활용성 평가 연구 (Study on the Application of Inorganic Byproduct from Fertilizer Manufacture Process as an Alternative Filler)

  • In this study, we investigated the possible use of a new inorganic material as alternative filler in the paper industry. The inorganic material is a mineral composed of calcium sulfate, that is generated when manufacturing phosphate fertilizer. The inorganic material was dehydrated by the thermal treatment to $200^{\circ}C$, $500^{\circ}C$, $700^{\circ}C$, and $900^{\circ}C$ to prepare white filler powders. Their basic properties, including color, particle shape, elements, and average particle size were identified. To determine the effect of new inorganic filler on paper's physical properties and strength, handsheets were prepared from HwBKP, SwBKP, and thermal treated inorganic fillers. Handsheets' ISO brightness, opacity, bulk, breaking length, and stiffness were measured. Results confirmed that thermal treated inorganic filler could be beneficial to the bulk and opacity of paper while maintaining higher level of breaking length and stiffness that is achieved using talc.

Characterization of Physicochemical Properties of Ferulic Acid

  • Ferulic acid (3-methoxy, 4-hydroxy cinnamic acid) is a flavoid component possessing antioxidant property. The compound is currently under development as a new drug candidate for the treatment of the dementia. The objective of this preformulation study was to determine the physicochemical properties of ferulic acid. The n-octanol to water partition coefficients of ferulic acid were 0.375 and 0.489 at the pHs of 3 and 10, respectively. Accelerated stability study for ferulic acid indicated that the t 90 value for the drug was estimated to be 459 days at $25^{\circ}C$. Ferulic acid was also found to be unstable under the relative humidity of more than 76%, probably because of the hygroscopic nature of the drug. In order to study compatibility of ferulic acid with typical excipients, potential change in differential scanning calorimetry spectrum was studied in 1: 1 binary mixtures of ferulic acid and typical pharmaceutical excipients (e.g., Aerosil, Avicel, CMC, Eudragit, lactose, PEG, PVP, starch and talc). Avicel, CMC, PVP and starch were found to be incompatible with ferulic acid, indicating the addition of these excipients may complicate the manufacturing of the formulation for the drug. Particle size distribution of ferulic acid powder was in the size range of 10-190 $\mu$m with the mean particle size of 61 $\mu$m. The flowability of ferulic acid was apparently inadequate, indicating the granulation may be necessary for the processing of the drug to solid dosage forms. Two polymorphic forms were obtained by recrystallization from various solvents used in formulation. New polymorphic form of ferulic acid, Form II, was obtained by recrystallization from 1,4-dioxane. The equilibrium solubility for Form I was approximately twice of that for Form II. The dissolution rate of Form II was higher than that of Form I in the early phase (<6 min). Therefore, these physicochemical information has to be taken in the consideration for the formulation of ferulic acid.

반경질 폴리우레탄 발포체의 물성에 대한 사슬 연장제와 무기 충전제의 영향 (Effects of Chain Extender and Inorganic Filler on the Properties of Semi-Rigid Polyurethane Foams)

  • 발포체의 물성은 발포체의 밀도, 사용된 폴리머의 기계적 물성과 열린 셀의 함량, 셀 크기, 셀 크기 분포, 셀 형태, 스킨층의 두께 등을 포함하는 셀 구조에 의존하며, 이러한 발포체의 밀도는 사용된 폴리머의 종류와 가교제의 농도 그리고 가공 기술 및 가공 조건과 같은 다양한 원료 물질과 가교 조건에 영향을 받는다. 본 연구에서는 폴리에스터 폴리올, MDI, 아민계 촉매, 틴계 촉매, 실리콘 유화제, 물을 기본 폴리우레탄 발포체의 조성으로 설정하였으며, 발포체에 있어서 stiff-chain 요소인 사슬 연장제의 첨가에 의하여 가교 밀도를 증가시켰다. 또한, 폴리우레탄 발포체의 기계적 물성을 높이기 위해 무기 충전제로 입자 크기와 $SiO_2$ 함량이 다른 실리카와 탈크 각각 2종류를 사용하였다. 발포체의 제조시 사슬 연장제와 무기 충전제의 종류와 함량비를 달리하면서 모듈러스, 인장 강도, 압축 강도, 경도의 물성 변화를 알아보았고, 전자현미경을 통해 셀의 크기 변화와 무기 충전제의 분포도를 관찰하였다.

급속모래여과 공정에서의 여과보조제에 의한 수질개선효과 연구 (The Improvement of Water Quality by Using Filter-aids in Rapid Sand Filters)

  • The objective of this study it to evaluate the microbial safety in rapid sand filters adapted in most drinking water treatment plants. The potential pathogens to cause water quality problems Are presumed to be Giardia and Gryptosporidium. They look like particles in view of their size. It has been reported that if the number of particles (larger than 2 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ in water) is less than 100 per mL and its turbidity is below 0.1 NTU, it is considered as a safe water in terms of pathogens. In order to achieve such a good water quality. filter-aids (chemicals) were added to the inlet-channel of filter and their effectiveness was evaluated on the basis of water quality factors such as turbidity and particle counting. This study was conducted in she three steps of experiment: jar test. pilot plant test and real water treatment plant test (P plant in seoul). The experiment reult of the P water treatment showed that cationic polyamine was the most effective in the removal of particles and turbidity at the does of 0.25 mg/L. The turbidity without filer-aids showed in the range of 0.12 ~0.17 NTU during filtration and 0.14 NTU on the average. However. with addition of polyamine, the turbidity represented below(or less than) 0.1 NTU after 20 min in the start of filtration and kept 0.08 NTU on the average. On the other hand, as for number of particles, while no filter-aids led to the range of 111 ~270 per mL and 190 on the average, addition of polydmine led to 113 per mL on talc average, and kept below100 per mL after 20 min in the start of filtration.
