User Acceptance of a Light-Emitting Diode Vest for Police Officer

  • This study aims to suggest practical considerations for designing protective clothing with increased visibility that will have higher user acceptance by law enforcement officers. Light-emitting diode(LED) patrol vests were visually and structurally assessed, and 125 police officers' responses from surveys about user acceptance of the vest were analyzed. The current LED patrol vest was designed for enhanced safety of police officers by increasing visibility in the dark. However, the user acceptance rate of the LED patrol vest indicates low use of and low satisfaction with the vest despite its enhanced safety features. In particular, differences in materials, design, functionality of the pockets and size of the vest depending on the hours worked, were statistically significant. The police officers' responses suggest areas of improvement in design, materials, ease of movement, size and functionality. Key issues include 'tactile discomfort'; 'impeded vision from the glare of the LED'; 'frequent malfunctions of the LED'; 'impossible repair of the broken LED units'; 'no user feedback'; 'inconvenient to replace batteries'; 'brittle materials' and 'unpleasing look'. To increase user acceptance, designer should incorporate context-awareness, a convenient user interface, a modular design approach, first responders' self-image as public servants in relation to their aesthetic perspectives of their uniforms, and scientific evaluation of the effectiveness of the intended functions of the clothing. Suggested implications for designing the LED patrol vest can be applied to designing other functional/protective clothing for intended end users with special needs.

호텔레스토랑의 식공간 연출이 고객감정반응과 행동의도에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구 (Effect of the Creating of Hotel Restaurant's Dinning Place on the Customers Emotional Response and Behavior Intension)

  • 본 연구는 부산 경남권의 호텔레스토랑을 방문하여 이용 중인 고객을 대상으로 식공간 연출이 고객감정반응을 통해 고객 행동의도를 높이는지의 간접효과 및 고객감정반응의 매개효과를 검증하여, 지속적으로 호텔 레스토랑을 방문할 수 있는 마케팅 전략의 기초 자료를 제시하고자 하였으며, 식공간 연출은 고객감정반응을 통해 행동 의도에 긍정적인 효과를 미쳤으며, 식공간 연출과 행동의도 간의 관계에서 고객감정반응은 부분매개효과를 가지는 것으로 나타났다. 이를 통해 파악할 수 있는 시사점은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 호텔 레스토랑을 찾는 고객이 다시 찾거나, 다른 사람에게 홍보할 수 있는 행동을 유도하기 위해서는 기본적으로 레스토랑의 식공간이 미각적, 시각적, 청각적, 촉각적, 후각적으로 좋은 연출이 이루어질 수 있도록 전략을 수립하여야 할 것이다. 둘째, 호텔 레스토랑의 식공간이 미각적, 시각적, 청각적, 촉각적, 후각적으로 좋은 연출이 이루어질 수 있기 위해서는 고객의 감정이 즐겁고, 설레이며, 분위기에 끌려야 하고, 분위기에 압도 당하는 기분이 들어 놀라움을 느낄 수 있도록 해야 한다. 셋째, 고객의 긍정적인 감정 반응을 끌어올리는 식공간 연출은 호텔레스토랑을 다시 찾고, 홍보하는 행동 유도를 극대화 할 수 있다.

감각자극이 미숙아의 체중증가에 미치는 영향 (Effects of a Sensory Stimulation on Weight Gain in Premature Infants)

  • This study has been conducted on the nonequivalent control group Pretest-posttest design in quasi experimental basis and newly born premature infants from intensive care unit of G Medical University Hospital in Inchon Metropolitan were selected in two groups of 21 infants each. The first group for experimental and the other for control. Data has been collected form October 30, 1997 to August 29, 1998. For the experimental group tactile and kinesthetic stimulation was applied 2 times a day for 10 days(10:00~ll:00 hours in the morning and 17:00~18:00 in the afternoon). As, a weight weighing instrument, electronic indicator scale(Cas Co. korea) was used. Collected data were analyzed with the SAS program using x²-test, student t-test, repeated measures ANOVA, Pearson correlated coefficient and Stepwise multiple regression. The result were as follow. 1. As for the daily weight gain, the experimental group showed first change in weight and this group also showed higher weight in the average weight than the control group. Statistically, however. there was no significant factor between the two groups. 2. In the correlation between general characteristics and weight gain, gestation Period. apgar score, admission Period before study, N.P.O. period after birth, recovery Period to birth weight showed statistical significance negative correlation with weight gam in the experimental group than control group. 3. In the factor with affected the weight gain by general characteristics showed recovery period to birth weight and head circumference in the experimental group, control group showed recovery period to birth weight, N. P. O. period after birth. admission period before study, feeding amount, weight of study. In conclusion. the sensory stimulation in this study showed a Positive aspect through there was no statistical significance in the weight gam. Tn the correlation of general characteristics and weight gam showed statistical significance negative correlation The main factor which affected the weight gain by general characteristics showed recover period to birth weight.

햅틱 인지 요인 분석을 적용한 진동 촉감 인터페이스 설계 프로세스 제안 (Design Process Suggestion of Vibrotactile Interface applying Haptic Perception Factor Analysis)

  • 본 연구에서는 인간의 촉감 메커니즘을 반영하여 햅틱 인지 요인을 적용할 수 있는 진동 촉감 인터페이스 설계 프로세스를 제안하였다. 본 프로세스는 총 4단계로 햅틱 감각의 요구사항 분석 단계, 햅틱 요소 분석 단계, 햅틱 인지 요인분석 단계, 햅틱 요구사항 상세 설계 및 시제품 구현 단계로 구성된다. 본 설계 프로세스의 장점은 햅틱 인지 요인 분석을 적용함으로써 사용자 요구사항 도출 및 구현 시 불필요한 작업들을 배제할 수 있으며, 가장 큰 특징은 인체공학적 특징을 설계에 반영할 수 있고, 사용자 평가와 사용성 테스트, 햅틱 기능 최적화 작업을 동시에 수행함으로써 시제품 개발이 완료됨과 동시에 햅틱 요구사항 명세서가 완료된다는 것이다. 본 설계 프로세스는 사용자의 요구사항에서부터 햅틱 기능 상세설계 및 시제품 구현에 대한 전체 단계를 포함하고 있어 햅틱에 대한 전문 지식이 부족한 일반 개발자들도 사용자 중심의 설계가 가능하여 일정 수준 이상의 햅틱 기능 설계 및 구현을 가능케 할 것으로 기대된다.

Preliminary study on application of augmented reality visualization in robotic thyroid surgery

  • Purpose: Increased robotic surgery is attended by increased reports of complications, largely due to limited operative view and lack of tactile sense. These kinds of obstacles, which seldom occur in open surgery, are challenging for beginner surgeons. To enhance robotic surgery safety, we created an augmented reality (AR) model of the organs around the thyroid glands, and tested the AR model applicability in robotic thyroidectomy. Methods: We created AR images of the thyroid gland, common carotid arteries, trachea, and esophagus using preoperative CT images of a thyroid carcinoma patient. For a preliminary test, we overlaid the AR images on a 3-dimensional printed model at five different angles and evaluated its accuracy using Dice similarity coefficient. We then overlaid the AR images on the real-time operative images during robotic thyroidectomy. Results: The Dice similarity coefficients ranged from 0.984 to 0.9908, and the mean of the five different angles was 0.987. During the entire process of robotic thyroidectomy, the AR images were successfully overlaid on the real-time operative images using manual registration. Conclusion: We successfully demonstrated the use of AR on the operative field during robotic thyroidectomy. Although there are currently limitations, the use of AR in robotic surgery will become more practical as the technology advances and may contribute to the enhancement of surgical safety.

황진이 시조 분석을 통한 한국 창작무용 의상디자인 연구 (A study on Korean creative dance costumes design through analysis of Jin-Yi Hwang's Sijos)

  • These days, costumes of Korean creative dancing performances have been changed to be modernized and to be out of traditional regulation, as the representation of the Korean styles were replaced by other props and art devices. In this article, we have applied the emotions expressed in Jin-Yi Hwang's sijos (Korean traditional poems), to Korean creative dancing costumes in modern style. chose three typical sijos from her six pieces, titled "Green mountain is like what I've meant", "To Byeokgyesoo in Cheongsan-ri" and "Dongjibam ginaginbam". In brief, Jin-Yi Hwang expressed her "everlasting love and emptiness", "temptative conciliation" and "eager waiting" these three sijos, respectively. The character of Jin-Yi Hwang was shown in many TV soap operas and films, and the costumes were either much modernized, and not accurately based on the sijos she had written. Thus, we designed, made flat sketched, and fabricated three Korean creative dancing costumes from the three sijos, listed. We tried to highlight the aesthetic impression and the activeness of the dancing costumes, using both traditional and modern Korean fabrics. Since Korean dance costumes had not yet been inspired from Jin-Yi Hwang's sijos, we discussed the importance of the fabric items, as well as the visual, auditory, and tactile characteristics of the costumes and dancers to emphasize Jin-Yi Hwang's expressed emotions.

의사소통장애인의 조음치료를 위한 한국형 전자구개도의 구현 (Preliminary study of Korean Electro-palatography (EPG) for Articulation Treatment of Persons with Communication Disorders)

  • Recently, the development of rehabilitation medical technology has resulted in an increased interest in speech therapy equipment. In particular, research on articulation therapy for communication disorders is being actively conducted. Existing methods for the diagnosis and treatment of speech disorders have many limitations, such as traditional tactile perception tests and methods based on empirical judgment of speech therapists. Moreover, the position and tension of the tongue are key factors of speech disorders with regards to articulation. This is a very important factor in the distinction of Korean characters such as lax, fortis, and aspirated consonants. In this study, we proposed a Korean electropalatography (EPG) system to easily measure and monitor the position and tension of the tongue in articulation treatment and diagnosis. In the proposed EPG system, a sensor was fabricated using an AgCl electrode and biocompatible silicon. Furthermore, the measured signal was analyzed by implementing the bio-signal processing module and monitoring program. In particular, the bio-signal was measured by inserting it into the palatal from an experimental control group. As a result, it was confirmed that it could be applied to clinical treatment in speech therapy.

환경 강화 치료(Environmental Enrichment Therapy) 프로그램이 발달지연 아동의 과제 수행 및 감각처리에 미치는 효과 (The Effect of Environmental Enrichment Therapy Program for Developmental Delayed Children on Task Performance, Sensory Processing)

  • 목적 : 환경 강화 치료 프로그램이 발달지연 아동의 과제수행 및 감각처리에 미치는 효과를 알아보고자 하였다. 연구방법 : 본 연구는 발달지연 소견을 보이는 아동 2명을 대상으로 단일대상연구 ABA 설계로, 진행하였으며, 중재는 주 7회씩 4주간 시행되었다. 두 아동 모두 중재 후 과제 수행도와 감각처리 변화를 확인하였다. 결과 : 중재 후 과제 수행도는 기초선 기간에 비해 평균 200%에서 최대 354%까지 향상되었으며, 감각처리영역에서도 촉각처리, 감정반응, 활동수준에 영향을 미치는 시각입력 조절영역의 점수가 정상범주로 향상되었다. 결론 : 본 연구를 통해 환경 강화 치료 프로그램이 발달지연 아동의 과제 수행 및 감각처리에 효과적이라는 점을 확인하였으며, 가정에서도 시행할 수 있는 프로그램으로 그 유용성을 확인하였다.

Air abrasive technique을 이용한 복합레진 수복 증례 (TREATMENT OF COMPOSITE RESIN RESTORATION WITH THE AIR ABRASIVE TECHNIQUE)

  • The air abrasive technique is a non-mechanical method by which teeth are treated before restoration and stains and calculi are removed from tooth surfaces using the kinetic energy of small particles. The air abrasive technique in dentistry was first introduced in the 1950's with as instrument called 'Airdent'. But, as the main restorative materials of the period were amalgam and gold, and the instrument's inability to control the flow of particles caused the particles to be spread throughout the clinics, widespread use was not possible. In the 1990's, as these techincal problems were solved and more interest in new restorative materials rose in an effort to preserve sound tooth structure, new developements took place in instruments related to the air abrasive technique. The air abrasive technique produces less pressure, vibration and heat that might cause patient discomfort and facilitates the preservation of sound tooth structure. It also reduces the need for anesthesia and is less harmful to the pulp. Other advantages include increase in dentin bonding strength of composite resin, lower possibility of saliva contamination and maintenance of a dry field. But there is not direct contact between the nozzle and the tooth, the operator cannot use his or her tactile sense and must rely solely upon visual input. Other disadvantages are: the tooth preparation depends on the operator's ability; alpha-alumina particles, after bouncing off the tooth surface, cause damage to dental mirrors; the equipment is expensive and takes up a certain amount of space in the clinic. The author conducted case report using the air abrasive technique on patient visiting the Department of Pediatric Dentistry at Seoul National University Dental Hospital and arrived at the following conclusions. 1. The tooth preparation capability of different air abrasive devices varied widely among manufacturers. 2. It was more effective in treating early caries lesions and stains compared to lesions where caries had already progressed to produce soft dentin. 3. The cold stream and noise caused by the evacuation system was a major cause of discomfort to pediatric patients. 4. As there is no direct contact with tooth surface when using the air abrasive technique for tooth preparation, considerable experience and skill is required for proper tooth preparation.

경기력 향상을 위한 지각기술훈련에 대한 고찰 - 스포츠 인지적 측면 중심으로- (A Study on Perceptual Skill Training for Improving Performance - Focusing on sports cognitive aspects -)

  • 지각이란 다양한 감각기관을 통하여 시각, 청각, 촉각, 후각 등 주위 환경에 대한 정보를 습득하는 과정으로 뇌에 전달된 정보를 통합하고 해석하는 것을 의미한다. 이러한 지각된 정보를 바탕으로 상황에 적합한 정보를 효율적으로 사용하는 능력을 지각기술(perceptual skill)이라 하며, 스포츠에서 지각기술은 경기력 향상을 위한 중요한 요소로 작용한다. 따라서 많은 연구자들은 지각기술을 극대화하기 위하여 다양한 방법의 지각기술훈련 프로그램을 개발하고, 그 효과를 검증하려는 시도들이 진행되고 있다. 본 연구에서 소개하고 있는 지각기술훈련은 시지각에 중점을 둔 훈련 방법으로 미국이나 유럽에서 스포츠 경기력 향상을 위해 적용하는 훈련프로그램이다. 축구 페널티킥 상황에서 골키퍼에게 키커의 중요 단서(키커의 엉덩이-몸통, 발의 각도)를 바탕으로 지각기술훈련을 실시한 결과, 볼의 방향 예측 능력이 향상되었고, 테니스에서도 서버의 중요 단서(자세, 공, 라켓)에 대한 지각기술훈련을 실시한 결과, 서브 방향에 대한 예측능력이 향상되었다. 최근 지각기술훈련에 대한 연구가 활발하게 진행되고 있지만 아직까지는 연구의 수가 많지 않으며, 대부분이 실험실 상황에서의 연구로 실제 경기 상황에서의 활용에 대한 연구가 부족한 실정이다. 따라서 연구자들은 스포츠 경기력 향상을 위하여 지각기술훈련의 필요성을 검토하고, 그 효과에 대한 연구 방향을 포괄적으로 검토해 보는 시도가 필요하다.
