  • Formation and thermal stability of a quasicrystalline phases in Al-Fe-Mo alloys were investigated by means of melt-spinning process and subsequent heat treatment test. Thermal decomposition and phase transformation process of the as-spun alloys were studied using X-ray diffraction and electron microscopy. The melt-spun Al-Fe-Mo alloys contained an icosahedral quasicrystalline phase with a quasilattice constant of 0.457 nm. Icosahedral phase formed at a composition of $Al_{82.5}Fe_{14}Mo_{3.5}$ as a metastable phase during rapid solidification was transformed into the stable crystalline phases, cubic 1/0 approximant and monoclinic ${\lambda}$-phase, upon heating. A metastable icosahedral and cubic(a = 0.93 nm) phases in as-spun $Al_{65}Fe_{20}Mo_{15}$ alloy were decomposed into two cubic(a = 0.62, 0.31 nm) phases by heat treatment.

  • Exact solutions for practical-size problems in job shop will be highly inefficient. Scheduling heuristics, therefore, are typically found in the literature. If we consider real-life situations such as machine breakdowns, the existing scheduling methods will be even more limited. Scheduling against due-dates addresses one of the most critical issues in modern manufacturing systems. In this paper, the method for weighted tardiness schedule using a graph theoretic decomposition heuristic is presented. It outstands the efficiency of computation as well as the robustness of the schedule.

  • This paper proposes a constrained multi-area dispatch scheduling algorithm applicable to interconnected power system operations. The dispatch scheduling formulated as an MIP problem can be efficiently computed by GBD algorithm. GBD guarantees adequate computation speed and solution convergence by reducing the dimension of the dispatch scheduling problem. In addition, the regional decomposition technique based on ADM is introduced to obtain efficient inter-temporal OPF solution. It can find the most economic dispatch schedule incorporating power transactions without each regional utility's private information open.

  • In this experimental study, methanol was chosen as a system material for a long -distance heat transportation. Not only transition metals but also noble metals were investigated as an active component, and several metal oxides, such as ${\gamma}$-$Al_2$,$O_3$, $SiO_2$, etc. as a support. In general, transition metal catalysts absorbed more heat than noble metal catalysts. The amount of heat absorption and CO selectivity depends on temperature and methanol partial pressure, and 25$0^{\circ}C$ Ni/$SiO_2$ catalyst showed the best result for methanol decomposition reaction.

  • The infrared multiphoton decomposition of trichloroethylene-H(TCE-H) and trichloroehtylene-D(TCE-D) was studied by using the high power $CO_2$ laser. The pressure dependence of TCE-H decomposition showed that the HCl elimination channel to form ClC ≡ CCl was the major step at high pressures, while the HC ≡ CCl formation step became important at low pressures. $Cl_2C$ = CHCl ${\rightarrow}$ (high pressure) ClC ${\equiv}$ CCl + HCl ${\rightarrow}$ (low pressure) HC ${\equiv}$ CCl + 2Cl${\cdot}$($Cl_2$) The IRMPD of TCE-H and TCE-D mixtures with 10P(20) laser line showed that optimum conditions of large isotope selectivity were the low system pressures and high laser powers. The experimentally observed dependence of the branching ratios on the pressure and laser fluence, and the isotope selectivity coefficients were quantitatively explained by using the modified energy grained master equations (EGME) model.

  • This paper discusses the application of piezoelectric sensors used for evaluation of damping ratio of PVC plastics. The development of the mathematical formulation based on the Empirical Mode Decomposition for calculating the damping coefficient and natural frequency of the system is presented. A systematic experimental and analytical investigation was also carried out to demonstrate the integrity of several methods commonly used to evaluate the damping of materials based on a single degree freedom formulation. The influence of the sensors' location was also investigated. Besides the commonly used methods, a newly emerging time-frequency method, namely the Empirical Mode decomposition, is also employed. Mathematical formulations based on the Hilbert-Huang formulation, and a frequency spacing technique were also developed for establishing the natural frequency and damping ratio based on the output voltage of a single piezoelectric sensor. An experimental investigation was also conducted and the results were compared and verified with Finite Element Analysis (FEA), revealing good agreement.

  • A thermal decomposition of trichloroethylene was studied in the temperature range of 440-$460^{\circ}C$ by using the conventional static system. In order to investigate the pressure dependence of reaction and to eliminate free radical process, propylene was used as the bath gas. The pressure range investigated was 10∼900 Torr. The decomposition was the unimolecular dehydrochlorination and the reaction products were hydrogen chloride and dichloroacetylene. Results were interpreted in terms of the Ric-Ramsperger-Kassel-Marcus (RRKM) unimolecular rate theory and the Arrhenius parameters were determined from fall-off behaviors. The Arrhenius parameters are found to be log $A=13.8{\pm}0.2sec^{-1}$ and E = $56.6{\pm}0.7$ kcal/mole, respectively.

  • Benoxaprofen (2-(4-chlorophenyl)-${\alpha}$ -methyl-5-benzoxazole acetic acid) is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug that causes acute cutaneous phototoxicity. The ability of benoxaprofen (BXP) and its photoproduct, decarboxybenoxaprofen (DBXP) to photosensitize the decomposition of tryptophan was evaluated in various media such as water, ethanol and aqueous micellar dispersions of surfactants. The weak photosensitization of BXP in water was found to be enhanced in cationic CTAB micelle system, but yielded little difference in anionic SDS micelles. In ethanol solution, BXP was determined to photosensitize the decomposition of tryptophan, but no photosensitization was observed with DBXP. All of these results implicate that the anion radical of BXP may play a major role in the photosensitization in hydrophobic micellar phase, forming superoxide through interaction with oxygen as demonstrated by observation that the photosensitization was inhibited by superoxide dismutase.

  • Using the most up-to-date system identification methods in both time and frequency domains, the dynamic monitoring data from the reinforced concrete Egebaekvej Bridge near Holte, Denmark, is examined in this investigation. The bridge was erected in the 1960s and was still standing during test campaign before demolishing. The ARTeMIS Modal was adopted to derive the modal parameters from ambient vibration data. Several Operational Modal Analysis (OMA) approaches were applied, including Enhanced Frequency Domain Decomposition (EFDD), Curve-fit Frequency Domain Decomposition (CFDD), and Frequency Domain Decomposition (FDD). Afterward, Principal Component (SSI-PC), Unweighted Principal Component (SSI-UPC) Stochastic Subspace Identification methods were utilized. Danish engineering consulting company, COWI with the allowance of the bridge contractor BARSLUND, allow the researcher for this experimental test to demonstrate the impact of OMA applications.

  • This paper summarizes some research findings that show how the differential transform method (DTM) is used to resolve the Holling-Tanner model. To confirm the application, effectiveness, and correctness of the approach, a comparison between the differential transform method (DTM) and the Adomian decomposition method (ADM) is carried out, and an accurate solution representation in truncated series is discovered. The approximate solution obtain using both techniques and comparison demonstrates same outcome which remains a preferred numerical method for resolving a system of nonlinear differential equations.
