  • This paper gives characterization of substrate and PZT(53/47) thin film deposited by metalorganic decomposition, which is concerned in deposition process and device fabrication process, to fabricate micro electro mechanical system (MEMS) device with piezoelectric material. The PZT thin films deposited by MOD at 700^{\circ}C$ for 30 minutes had a polycrystallinity, that is, no substrate dependence, while different interface were developed depending on the bottom electrodes. Such a structural variation could influence on not only the properties of the PZT film but also etching process for fabricating MEMS devices. Therefore the electrode structure is a very important factor in the deposition of the PZT film during etching process by HF acid for MEMS device with piezoelectric material. Piezoelectric coefficients of the PZT films on the different substrates were 40 and 80 pm/V at an applied voltage of 4V. Based in these results, it was possible for deposition of the PZT film by MOD to apply MEMS device fabrication process based on piezoelectricity after selection of proper bottom electrode.

  • The paper describes the development of a decomposition based multidisciplinary design optimization (MDO) method that coordinates each of disciplinary subspace optimization (DSO). A multidisciplinary design system considered in the present study is decomposed into a number of subspaces based on their own design objective and constraints associated with engineering discipline. The coupled relations among subspaces are identified by interdisciplinary design variables. Each of subsystem level optimization, that is DSO would be performed in parallel, and the system level coordination is determined by the first order optimal sensitivities of subspace objective functions with respect to interdisciplinary design variables. The central of the present work resides on the formulation of system level coordination strategy and its capability in decomposition based MDO. A fluid-structure coupled design problem is explored as a test-bed to support the proposed MDO method.

  • We propose an adaptive resource allocation algorithm with generalized triangular decomposition scheme in downlink multi-user multiple-input-multiple-output channel to maximize the system throughput when we adopt the modulation scheme such as BPSK, QPSK, 16QAM, and 64QAM. The proposed scheme also considers an bit-error-rate performance as well as system throughput while performing resource allocation. We present simulation results to show that the proposed scheme achieves the system throughput up to 2bit difference by capacity and has better BER performance than SVD based resource allocation scheme in all SNR regions.

  • This study conducted to monitor decomposition process of the charomatophore pollution solution of an animal slurry by using a CCD camera. After the solution was put into test tube, the images(R, G, B, H, L, S) values of the solution were measured by the imgae processing system, and those of it\`s optical density were measured for three hours to be decomposed by microscopic organism. The values of measured for three hours to be decomposed by microscopic organism. The values of measured images(R, G, B, H, L, S) were analysed and compared with those of the optical density. Some of the results are as follows. 1. High correlation coefficients, which analyzed by using data on linear equations, were 0.9557 and 0.9672. They were decreased regularly in this R-value experiment of RGB level. The microscopic organism in this experiment was effective for decomposition of the red charomatophore pollution solution. 2. The values of all correlation coefficients from relationship between RGB-value and optical density were more than 0.95 except H-values. RGB-values, which were average values of summed R, G, B values, had correlation coefficients of 0.9863, 0.9937. These results showed so good relationship that decomposition process of charomatophore pollution solution could be monitored by a image processing system.

  • Modern long-span floor system typically possesses low damping and low natural frequency, presenting a potential vibration sensitivity problem induced by human activities. Field test and numerical analysis methods are available to study this kind of problems, but would be inconvenient for design engineers. This paper proposes a simplified method to determine the acceleration amplitudes of long-span floor system subjected to walking or running load, which can be carried out manually. To theoretically analyze the acceleration response, the floor system is simplified as an anisotropic rectangular plate and the mode decomposition method is used. To facilitate the calculation of acceleration amplitude aP, a coefficient αwmn or αRmn is introduced, with the former depending on the geometry and support condition of floor system and the latter on the contact duration tR and natural frequency. The proposed simplified method is easy for practical use and gives safe structural designs.

  • This paper considers the stability of linear systems having an interval time-varying delay using a switched system approach. The time-delay system is converted to the switched system equivalently, and then a stability criterion in the form of linear matrix inequality(LMI) is derived by using a parameter dependent Lyapunov-Krosovskii function(PD-LKF). In constructing a PD-LKF, the decomposition is employed for delay free intervals, and the reduction of conservatism is shown analytically as the number of decomposition increases. Finally, two well-known numerical examples are given to show the reduction of conservatism compared to the recent results.

  • The performance of a system can be affected by various variables such as manufacturing tolerances, uncertainties of material properties, and environmental factors acting on the system. Robust design optimization has attracted much attention in the design of products because it can find the best design solution that minimizes the variance of the response while considering the distribution of the variables. However, the computational cost and accuracy of optimization have thus far been a challenging problem. In this study, robust design optimization using the multiplicative decomposition method is proposed in order to solve these problems. Because the proposed method calculates the mean and variance of the system directly from the kriging metamodel using the multiplicative decomposition method, it can be used to search for a robust optimum design accurately and efficiently. Several mathematical and engineering examples are used to demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed method.

  • The hydrogen torch ignition system has been widely used to ignite a pure aluminum for aluminum powder combustion system because of its simple ignition method. However, the conventional hydrogen torch ignition system has a disadvantage that requires a high-pressure tank to supply hydrogen, which leads to the increase of the weight. In order to solve this problem, a hydrogen ignition system using $NaBH_4$, a solid chemical hydride, was designed in this study. The thermal decomposition of $NaBH_4$ was initiated approximately at $500^{\circ}C$ and hydrogen was generated. The parameters affecting the thermal decomposition characteristics of $NaBH_4$ were analyzed and the aluminum combustion test was carried out using $NaBH_4$-based hydrogen ignition system to study the applicability to a practical aluminum-combustion propulsion system.

  • This paper proposes a fault diagnosis system for an induction motor. This system uses empirical mode decomposition(EMD) to extract fault signatures and multi-layer perceptron(MLP) neural network to facilitate an accurate fault diagnosis. EMD can not only decompose a signal adaptively but also provide intrinsic mode functions(IMFs) containing natural oscillatory modes of the signal. However, every IMF does not represent fault signature, an IMF selection algorithm based on harmonics and their energy of each IMF is proposed. The selected IMFs are utilized for fault classification using MLP and this system shows approximately 98 % diagnosis accuracy for the fault vibration signal of the induction motor.

  • An efficient two-level domain decomposition parallel algorithm is suggested to solve large-DOF structural problems with nonlinear material models generating unsymmetric tangent matrices, such as a group of plastic-damage material models. The parallel version of the stabilized bi-conjugate gradient method is developed to solve unsymmetric coarse problems iteratively. In the present approach the coarse DOF system is solved parallelly on each processor rather than the whole system equation to minimize the data communication between processors, which is appropriate to maintain the computing performance on a non-supercomputer level cluster system. The performance test results show that the suggested algorithm provides scalability on computing performance and an efficient approach to solve large-DOF nonlinear structural problems on a cluster system.
