Aggregation behavior of three kinds of benzindocarbocyanine dyes in aqueous methanol solution was studied by UV-Vis absorption spectrum. The results indicated that the three dyes all existed monomer-dimer equilibrium in aqueous methanol solution (concentration range $10^{−5}\;to\;10^{−6}$ M) at 25.0$\sim$41.0 ${^{\circ}C}$ for Dye 1, 28.0$\sim$49.0 ${^{\circ}C}$ for Dye 2 and 26.0$\sim$47.0 ${^{\circ}C}$ for Dye 3. The fundamental property of the three dyes as the dimeric association constant KD, the dimeric free energy ${\Delta$}G_D, the dimeric entropy ${\Delta$}S_D, and the dimeric enthalpy ${\Delta$}H_D were determined. The ${\Delta$}H_D of three dyes: Dye 1, Dye 2 and Dye 3 was -42.5, -15.1 and -18.9 kJ/mol, respectively. The experimental observations were the subject of a theoretical study including the ground-state geometries which were fully optimized using DFT at B3LYP/6-31G level. The effect of dye molecule structure on ${\Delta$}H_D was discussed by theoretical calculations.
Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) observations are powerful tools to monitor surface's displacement very accurately, induced by earthquake, volcano, ground subsidence, glacier movement, etc. Especially, radar interferometry (InSAR) which utilizes phase information related to distance from sensor to target, can generate displacement map in line-of-sight direction with accuracy of a few cm or mm. Due to decorrelation effect, however, degradation of coherence in the InSAR application often prohibit from construction of differential interferogram. Offset tracking method is an alternative approach to make a two-dimensional displacement map using intensity information instead of the phase. However, there is limitation in that the offset tracking requires very intensive computation power and time. In this paper, efficiency of parallel computing has been investigated using high performance computer for estimation of glacier velocity. Two TanDEM-X SAR observations which were acquired on September 15, 2013 and September 26, 2013 over the Narsap Sermia in Southwestern Greenland were collected. Atotal of 56 of 2.4 GHz Intel Xeon processors(28 physical processors with hyperthreading) by operating with linux environment were utilized. The Gamma software was used for application of offset tracking by adjustment of the number of processors for the OpenMP parallel computing. The processing times of the offset tracking at the 256 by 256 pixels of window patch size at single and 56 cores are; 26,344 sec and 2,055 sec, respectively. It is impressive that the processing time could be reduced significantly about thirteen times (12.81) at the 56 cores usage. However, the parallel computing using all the processors prevent other background operations or functions. Except the offset tracking processing, optimum number of processors need to be evaluated for computing efficiency.
Satellite-derived sea surface winds (SSWs) and atmospheric motion vectors (AMVs) over the global ocean, particularly including the areas in and around tropical cyclones (TCs), have been provided in a real-time and continuous manner. More and better information is now derived from technologically improved multiple satellite missions and wind retrieving techniques. The status and prospects of key SSW products retrieved from scatterometers, passive microwave radiometers, synthetic aperture radar, and altimeters as well as AMVs derived by tracking features from multiple geostationary satellites are reviewed here. The quality and error characteristics, limitations, and challenges of satellite wind observations described in the literature, which need to be carefully considered to apply the observations for both operational and scientific uses, i.e., assimilation in numerical weather forecasting, are also described. Additionally, on-going efforts toward merging them, particularly for monitoring three-dimensional TC wind fields in a real-time and continuous manner and for providing global profiles of high-quality wind observations with the new mission are introduced. Future research is recommended to develop plans for providing more and better SSW and AMV products in a real-time and continuous manner from existing and new missions.
Recent high-resolution, high-sensitivity observations of protostellar jets have shown many to possess an underlying 'wiggle' structure. HH 211 is one such example where recent sub-mm observations revealed a clear reflection-symmetric wiggle. An explanation for this is that the HH211 jet source is moving as part of a protobinary system. Here we test this assumption by simulating HH211 through 3D hydrodynamic simulations using the pluto code with a molecular chemistry and cooling module, and initial conditions based on an analytical model derived from SMA observations. Molecular chemistry allows us to accurately plot synthetic molecular emission maps and position-velocity diagrams for direct comparison to observations, enabling us to test the observational assumptions and put constraints on the physical parameters of HH211. Our preliminary results show that the reflection-symmetric wiggle can be recreated through the assumption of a jet source being part of a binary system.
Radiative transfer programs have been developed to simulate near-IR spectra of Titan. The formalism of the radiative transfer calculations includes the absorption and emission lines of $CH_4$, $C_2H_2$, $C_2H_6$, and HCN, and continua produced by Titanian haze particles. Absorption and scattering of sunlight by haze particles are considered by employing a two-stream approximation and a spherical-shell model for the atmospheric layers of Titan. Various constraints on the radiative transfer calculations for generating synthetic spectra will be discussed and presented. Several examples of comparisons between the synthetic spectra and recent spectral observations of Titan will also be presented.

The radar interferogram represents phase differences between the two synthetic aperture radar observations acquired in slightly different angle. The success of the radar interferometric application largely depends on the quality of the interferogram generated from two or more synthetic aperture radar data sets. We propose here to apply the wavenumber correlation analysis to the in-phase and quadrature phase of the radar interferogram. The wavenumber correlation analysis is to resolve the highly correlated components from the low correlation components by estimating correlation coefficients for each wavenumber component. Through this approach, one can easily distinguish the signal components from the noise components in the wavenumber domain. Therefore, the wavenumber correlation analysis of the radar interferogram can be utilized to design post filter and to estimate the quality of interferogram. We have tested the wavenumber correlation analysis using a Radarsat SAR data pair to demonstrated the effectiveness of

The optimum design of an SAR (Synthetic Aperture Radar) satellite constellation is developed herein using a genetic algorithm. The performance of Earth observations using a satellite constellation can be improved by minimizing the maximum revisit time. Classical orbit design using analytic methods has limitations when addressing orbit dynamics due to various disturbances. To overcome this issue, an optimization technique based on a genetic algorithm is used. STK (Systems Tool Kit) is utilized to propagate the satellite orbit when considering external disturbances, and the maximum revisit time on the earth observation area is calculated. By minimizing the performance index using a genetic algorithm, the optimum orbit of the satellite constellation is designed. Numerical results are provided to demonstrate the performance of the proposed method.
Hydroxyapatite (HA) is well known as a biocompatible and bioactive material. HA has been practically applied as bone graft materials in a range of medical and dental fields. In this study, two types of dense hydroxyapatite ceramics were prepared from natural bones and synthetic materials. The biocompatibility of HA ceramics for supporting osteoblast cell growth and cytotoxicity using an in vitro MG-63 cell line model were respectively evaluated. Artificial hydroxyapatite shows relative density of 93% with 1-2 ${\mu}m$ after sintering, but a hydroxyapatite compact derived from bovine bone has low sintered density of 85% with a small content of MgO. Irrespective of the starting raw materials, both types of sintered hydroxyapatite displayed similar biocompatibility in the tests. FE-SEM observations showed that most MG-63 cells had a stellar shape and formed an intercellular matrix containing fibers on sintered HA. The cells were well attached and grown over the HA surface, indicating that there was no toxicity.
In the past few years, two-planet circumbinary systems (e.g., HW Vir, NN Ser, DP Leo and HU Aqr) have been detected around short-period eclipsing binaries using ground-based telescopes. The existence of these planets has been inferred by interpreting the O-C variations of the mid-eclipse times. We have tested the orbital stability of these systems and propose to use Light Travel Time Effect (LITE) to detect such circumbinary planets from the ground. We generated synthetically the LITE signal of a two-planet circumbinary system with the aim to apply an analytic LITE model to recover the underlying synthetic system. To mimic a degree of realism inherent to ground-based observations, we added to the synthetic LITE data white noise with a Gaussian distribution and sampled the synthetic LITE signal randomly. We successfully recovered the original system demonstrating that two-planet circumbinary systems can be detected using ground-based telescopes, provided the timing measurements of the mid-eclipses are sufficiently accurate and the observing baseline is long enough to ensure a sufficient coverage of all involved periods. We used HU Aqr as a test system and applied our model to its proposed planetary bodies considering near-circular orbits. We present the results of our calculations and discuss the LITE-detectability of a HU Aqr-like system.
Since the detection of 3.3-micron PAH (polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon) and 3.4-micron aliphatic hydrocarbon features in the spectra of Titan (Bellucci et al. 2009; Kim et al. 2011) and Saturn (Kim et al. 2012), respectively, the 3.3-micron feature of gaseous CH4 has been thought to be still the important spectral feature in the 3-micron absorption structures of Titan and Saturn. However, the analyses of the 3.3-and 3.4-micron emission structures of Saturn revealed that the influence of the gaseous CH4 on the structures is rather minimal (Kim et al. 2019). We present synthetic spectra of gaseous CH4, and the PAH and aliphatic haze particles in order to show the degree of influence of their spectra on the 3.3-and 3.4-micron emission structures of Saturn, and we compare these synthetic spectra with currently available observations. We constructed these synthetic spectra using newly developed radiative transfer equations. These equations are able to address detailed radiative processes in the atmospheres containing various gases and haze particles. We expect these radiative transfer equations can also be widely applied to the investigation of radiative transfer processes and the analyses of the spectra of celestial objects such as the Earth, the Moon, planets, and interstellar nebulae.
