For the purpose of development of effective synthetic process of CHMI, a series of experiments were preformed on the preparation of CHMAIE, the intermediate of CHMI. For the first step, CHMA was synthesized by dropwise mixing of cyclohexylamine with maleic anhydride in toluene and 98.2% of theoretical CHMA was obtained by precipitation at $10^{\circ}C$ for 2 hours. The optimum reaction temperature of the esterfication, preparation reaction of CHAMIE from CHMA, was $68^{\circ}C$, and equilibrium conversion at optimum temperature was 98.5%. Equilibrium reaction time decreased with reaction temperature, and 4 hours was taken to reach equilibrium at optimum reaction temperature. Toluene in the final reaction product could be recovered by vacuum distillation. The recovery of toluene was increased with distillation temperature and 98% of toluene could be recovered at $55^{\circ}C$.
An animal fat is an attractive biodiesel energy source for its high stability against oxidation and low incomplete combustion ratio due to the high heating value and cetane value. However, it requires a refinery process because of the high content of saturated acid and impurity which increas the boiling point. In this study, the optimum biodiesel synthetic process of lard is suggested. Indeed, we demonstrate new biodiesel production processes to alter conventional process of heating and mixing by applying ultrasonic energy. While the optimum reaction temperature and mole ratio of methanol and lard, when using conventional mixing and heating process, were $55^{\circ}C$ and 12, respectively, the reaction time were reduced to 30 minutes by applying ultrasonic irradiation power of 500 W. The new process applying ultrasonic irradiation yielded synthetic biodiesel properties as followings: 3.34 cP of the viscosity, 37.0 MJ/kg of the caloric value and below 0.25 mgKOH/g of the acidic value, which satisfy biodiesel quality criteria.
The aim of this study was to investigate whether intracisternal administrations of triptolide and N-nitro-L-arginine Methyl Ester (L-NAME) are involved in the regulation of temporomandibular joint (TMJ) pain. The TMJ pain was induced by the injection of 5% formalin ($30{\mu}l$) into TMJ capsule of rats. The pain behavioral responses was recorded the number of grooming or scratching on the left TMJ area for 9 successive 5 minutes intervals. Triptolide and L-NAME were administrated intracisternally 10 minutes before formalin injection. The intra-articular injection of formalin produced a biphasic pattern of pain response (first phase: 0~10 minutes and second phase: 11~45 minutes). The intracisternal administration of triptolide ($1{\mu}g/10{\mu}l$) and L-NAME ($0.1{\mu}g/10{\mu}l$) suppressed the TMJ pain behavior in each experiment. Co-administration of two drugs was shown the enhanced effect than the analgesic effect by single-administration of triptolide ($1{\mu}g/10{\mu}l$). The triptolide could be a useful analgesic agent for the treatment of TMJ pain, and it is expected to reduce the substantial amount of it via co-administration of synthetic chemical compound and natural products.

Polymer solar cells (PSCs) have attracted considerable academic and commercial interest because of their unique advantages, such as the facile manufacture of low cost, flexibility, lightweight, and solution processibility. Recently, high-performance polymer solar cells made from a mixture of poly(2,7-carbazole) derivatives, PCDTBT, and [6,6]-phenyl C71 butyric acid methyl ester (PC70BM) have been reported, with maximum power conversion efficiency of 6.1%. In this work, we report new novel copolymers based on poly(2,7-carbazole) derivatives with a suite of electron-deficient moieties or electron-rich units. We systematically investigated the synthesis, thermal stability, as well as the optical and electrochemical properties of these polymers. Detailed synthetic scheme, optical, electrochemical, and photovoltaic properties of the copolymers will be presented.
The synthetic route and physical properties for three-ring derivatives, trans-2,3,2',3'-tetrafluoro-4-alkyl-4'-(4-alkyl-cyclohexyl)-biphenyl and 4-alkyl-cyclohexane carboxylic acid 2,3,2',3',4'-pentafluoro-biphenyl-4-yl ester are presented. They exhibit broad range nematic phases exceeding 30K and low viscosity of nematic liquid crystal mixtures containing these materials. Their viscosity is compared with that of homologues with a lateral isothiocyanate group and show large negative dielectric anisotropies. The threshold voltage $V_{th}$ was low enough to be operated at a driving voltage of 5V. Our novel LC compounds are suitable materials for the improvement of dielectric anisotropy of vertical align liquid crystal displays (VA-LDCs).
The properties of carboxyl proteinase which was contained in Poria cocos (Schw.) Wolf were investigated by means of the purification with 0.65 ammonium sulfate saturation, DEAE cellulose and Sephadex G-75 gel filtration. This enzyme was found to hydrolyze only peptide bond between glutamyl-L-tyrosine of carbobenzoxy-L-glutamyl-L-tyrosine among the synthetic substrates of carbobenzoxy-L-glutamyl-L-tyrosine, hippuryl- L-phenylalanine and hippuryl-L-arginine. This enzyme was inhibited by $Zn^{+2},\;Fe^{+2},\;Ca^{+2},\;CN^{-1},\;P_2O_7^{-4}$ ions, but stimulated by $Hg^{+2}$ ion. Also, this enzyme was inhibited by organic compounds such as L-lysine, L-phenylalanine, hippuryl-L-phenylalanine, diazoacetyl-DL-norleucine methyl ester (DAN) and 1,2-epoxy-3-(P-nitrophenoxy)propane(EPNP). In particular, the activity was inhibited by L-lysine till 20 minutes of preincubation time rapidly, and by DAN in the presence of $Cu^{+2}$ ion more rapidly after 30 minutes than DAN in the absence of $Cu^{+2}$ ion. L-Lysine was found to be a competitive inhibitor and its $K_i$ value was determined to be 0.12 mmole by Dixon plot.

$TiO_2-ZrO_2$ was prepared with surfactant through a sol-gel method. Catalysts containing 5 - 35% $H_3PO_4$ were prepared using these oxides. Subsequently the catalytic performance of prepared catalysts was determined for liquid phase esterification of aromatic acids. $H_3PO_4/TiO_2-ZrO_2$ has been used as catalyst to synthesize various novel esters by esterification of some aromatic acids with aliphatic alcohols (2-propanol, 1-butanol, iso butanol, 3-pentanol, 1-hexanol, heptanol, cyclo heptanol, octanol and decanol). Under optimized conditions, maximum yields and selectivity (100%) to the corresponding ester, was obtained by using 25 wt % $H_3PO_4/TiO_2-ZrO_2$ as catalyst. The Catalyst can be easily recycled after reaction and can be reused without any significant loss of activity/selectivity performance. No by-product formation, high yields, short reaction times, mild reaction conditions, operational simplicity with reusability of the catalyst are the salient features of the present synthetic protocol. The reaction was carried out under solvent-free condition.

BACKGROUND: In this study, we have attempted to identify a urinary biomarker to assess chlorpyrifos exposure in farmers. The major metabolite and the excretion pathway of chlorpyrifos is 3,5,6-trichloro-2-pyridinol (TCP) in urine. Herein, we describe an adequate synthetic method for TCP hapten for measuring urinary TCP of farmers. METHODS AND RESULTS: First, TCP was prepared by spacer attachment through hydrolysis of thiophosphate ester from chlorpyrifos. After reaction with benzyl bromide, the TCP was transformed into 2,3,5-trichloro-6-benzyloxypyridine. Next, the chlorine in the 2 nd position of the pyridyl ring was substituted into 3-mercaptopropanoic acid spacer arm. Finally, the phenyl group attached to the 6 th position in pyridyl ring was removed for producing the targeted product, 3-(3,5-Dichloro-6-hydroxy-2-pyridyl) thiopropanoic acid. CONCLUSION: Henceforth, this TCP hapten would be used in developing immunoassay studies for the detection and quantitation of urinary TCP of farmers.

Four esters of succinic and maleic acid were synthesized, separated by thin-layer chromatography (TLC), and identified using matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization-mass spectrometry (MALDI-MS). A comparison of matrix materials showed that 2,6-dihydroxybenzoic acid (2,6-DHB) yielded a greater ionization efficiency than 2,5-DHB prior to TLC separation. The location of each ester sample on the TLC plate was estimated by comparing the developed plate with a duplicate plate that had been visualized by immersion in a $KMnO_4$ solution. Generally, mass spectra obtained from the $KMnO_4$-visualized plate were relatively poor. Reproducible mass spectra with high peak abundance were difficult to obtain using the 2,6-DHB matrix from crude synthetic esters extracted from the TLC plates. Significant improvements in both reproducibility and sensitivity were realized by using pencil lead as the MALDI matrix. The current methodology will be beneficial to organic chemists since it can provide a guideline for simple and rapid characterization of small organic compounds.
Previous studies on the anticonvulsant activity of $N-Cbz-{\alpha}-aminoglutarmides$ have shown that the derivatives of $N-Cbz-{\alpha}-amino-N-alkoxy$ glutarimide have significant anticonvulsant activity. In addition, their anticonvulsant activities are dependent on the presence of N-alkoxy groups. Based on these results, a series of $N-Cbz-{\alpha}-amino-glutarimidooxy$ carboxylates derivatives (3a-e) were synthesized in moderate yield using a known synthetic procedure. Their anticonvulsant activities were evaluated using the maximal electroshock seizure (MES) test, the pentylene tetrazole induced seizure (PTZ) test, and the strychinine (Str) threshold test with the ultimate aim of developing more active anticonvulsants. None of the compounds (3a-e) tested showed anticonvulsant activity in the MES and PTZ test. However, all the compounds tested exhibited significant anticonvulsant activity in the Str. test. The most active compound in the Str. test was the methyl ester of $N-Cbz-{\alpha}-amino-glutarimidooxy$ acetic acid 3a $(ED_{50}\;=\;42.9\;mg/kg)$.
