  • Storage stabilities of ramyons fried in palm oil and beef tallow with added antioxidants and their synergists were investigated by comparing the changes in physicochemical parameters and n-hexanal concentrations of oils extracted from ramyons during storage. Ramyons fried in palm oil and beef tallow with added ${\delta}-tocopherol$ $({\delta}-toc)$ showed an enhanced storage stabilities when compared to those fried in the oils with ${\alpha}-tocopherol$ $({\alpha}-toc)$. Ascorbyl palmitate was found to be a better synergist than citric acid for the antioxidant activity of both ${\delta}-toc\;and\;{\alpha}-toc$. Phenolic antioxidants gave a better storage stability than tocopherol when ramyon was fried in beef tallow, while a mixture of BHA and BHT gave an inferior storage stability than${\alpha}-toc$ when ramyon was fried in palm oil. The effectiveness of the antioxidants tested on storage stability of stored ramyon had a close relationship to the n-hexanal concentration. On the other hand, the paramenters such as peroxide value, carbonly value, and conjugated diene concentration showed inconsistency during the course of the storage experiment.

  • Antioxidative effects of crude ethanol extract of the Rhus javanica L. and its fractionates with various synergists on the oxidation of palm oil, lard and soybean oil were compared with induction period(IP) using a Rancimat test. Addition of 200 ppm of the crude extract with phosphoric acid to palm oil extended IP 2.89 times as much as that of control and ethyl acetate fractionate extended IP 4.18 times at the same condition. To lard, 600 ppm of chloroform fraction with 200 ppm of ${\delta}-Tocopherol$ extended IP 13.42 times as much as that of control. 200 ppm of each fraction with various synergists were added to palm oil and lard, and oxidative stability of the oils were monitored by measuring POV, AV, and TBA value. The POV of palm oil containing 200 ppm of ethyl acetate and chloroform fraction with 200 ppm of phosphoric acid after 27 days storage at $60^{\circ}C$ were 8.9 meq/kg and 9.4 meq/kg respectively while the POV of control was 98.3 meq/kg at the same condition. AV and TBA value were also lower than that of control. The POV value of lard containing same amount of ethyl acetate and chloroform fraction with ${\delta}-Tocopherol$ after 12 day storage at $60^{\circ}C$ were 20.0meq/kg and 10.7 meq/kg respectively while the POV of control was 161.1 meq/kg at the same condition. AV and TBA value were also lower than that of control.

  • Biologically, MGK-264 (N-octyl bicycloheptene dicarboximide) acts as a synergists for insecticides mainly pyrethrins and pyrethroids. It's used extensively in combination with pyrethrin and piperonyl butoxide and also with personal insect repellent and cockroach repellents. But the toxic effect of MGK-264 in mamalians was a relatively little known therefore in this studies it was initiated to examine the toxic effect of MGK -264 in rats. For 5 weeks it administrated daily in each 250 mg and 500 mg of MGK-264 per kg of body weight in rats. 1) The body weight gain and the LYMPH (%) value in blood were observed a slight tendency to reduce in accordance with amount of dose and number treatment time. 2) The content of cytochrome P-450 and activity of NADPH-cytochrome c reductase were decreased in liver and those were observed some tendency in the kidney as liver but not significant. 3) The liver cholinesterase activity in the both 250 mg/kg and 500 mg/kg per kg of body weight with treated groups and the liver aniline hydroxylase in 500 mg/kg treated group were gradually decreased from 4 weeks after treated groups. In consequence it would sugested that the toxic effect of MGK-264 was low but in could offer hazard effect in liver and nervers system of rats if it was administrated move dose of MGK-264 and agumented in number of treated time.

  • Purpose: This study is not a fragmentary study on characteristics of respiratory synergist when breathing, however it was intended to determine the effect of currently available respiratory exercise and to provide basic clinical information through investigation of oxygen demand and respiratory synergist that mobilizes for respiration during application of respiratory exercise. Methods: Experimental group I was selected from second grade of severity classification of GOLD, which has the highest percentage among patients with COPD, and experimental group II was selected from third grade of severity classification as a clinical sampling. After respiration pursing up lips and diaphragm respiration exercise were mediated together for six weeks, activity of respiratory muscles and oxygen saturation were measured and analyzed. Results: In comparison of change of respiratory synergist and oxygen saturation, activity of respiratory synergist in sternocleidomastoid muscle and scalene muscle showed a meaningful decrease in experimental group I. And, in comparison of change of respiratory synergist and oxygen saturation, activity of respiratory synergist in rectus abdominis muscle showed a meaningful increase in experimental group II. In comparison of change of respiratory synergist and oxygen saturation, activity of respiratory synergist in sternocleidomastoid muscle, scalene muscle, and rectus abdominis muscle showed a meaningful difference between experimental groups. Conclusion: Respiratory synergists work mainly as agonist of chest and upper limbs. Therefore it is very important to lower mobilization of respiratory synergist when breathing. It is considered that a multilateral approach and continued clinical research for improvement of respiratory function for patients with COPD will be needed in the future.

  • This study shows to blend ethylene vinyl acetate(EVA) and a flame retardant agent, $Mg(OH)_{2}$, and synergists, zinc borate for improving flame retardancy of low density polyethylene(LDPE). And it studied the property of flame retardancy of LDPE/EVA blend by the amount of addition through LOI and TGA, estimated the electrical characteristics such as volume resistivity and breakdown strength. The flame retardancy of LDPE/EVA blend was much improved in case of adding zinc borate with 6phr degree, and the electrical characteristics were more or less decreased depending on increasing the amount of addition. Zinc borate used for improving the flame retardancy of LDPE/EVA blend let the added amount of a flame retardant agent, $Mg(OH)_{2}$ limited, and the electrical characteristics decreased extremely by adding a good deal of $Mg(OH)_{2}$.

  • In this study, we investigated resistance to the organophosphates chlorpyrifos in Tunisian populations of Culex pipiens pipiens. Three field populations were collected from Northern and central Tunisia between 2003 and 2005 and used for the bioassays tests. Our results registered moderate and high levels of resistance to chlorpyrifos which ranged from 33.8 to 111. The chlorpyrifos resistant populations were highly resistant to propoxur indicated an insensitive acetylcholinesterase 1 (AChE 1). The highest frequency of AChE 1 resistant phenotypes (64%) was recorded in the most resistant population (sample # 1). Bioassays conducted in the presence of synergists showed that not esterases were involved as the resistance mechanism to chlorpyrifos. However, CYP450 was partly involved in the resistance of the most resistant sample (# 1). Starch electrophoresis showed that three esterases were present in studied samples: A2-B2, A4-B4 and B12. Results are discussed in relation to the selection pressure caused by insecticide treatments.

  • The objectives of the study were twofole: (1) to investigate effects of rhythmic contraction and sustained contraction methods on recovery rate of isometric endurance capacity and (2) to compare aptterns of muscle recruitment of both arms observed during each contraction period. In the experiment, each of two subjects performed five successive rhythmic or sustained isometric contractions at 50% MVC with both arms to the point of fatigue, which was the failure to maintain the required tension. In making the contractions, the subjects stood erect with upper arms held at an angle of approximately 90 .deg. to the forearm. The interval between the successive contractions was kept constant at 3, 7, 20, or 40 minutes. Regardless of the contraction methods, the recovery rate was least at the shortest interval and was highest at the longest interval. However, a statistical analysis showed that the recovery rates for the rhythmic contractions were significantly lower than those for the sustained contractions throughout 4 different intervals. Furthermore, as the frequency of the rhythmic contractions per min, increased 4 to 6 times, the recovery rate of isometric endurance capacity decreased. From an EMG anglysis, recruitment pattern of the muscules of both arms was found to be common between two different contraction methods. The biceps muxcles of the upper arms played a major role in exerting 50% MVC, while the brachioradialis muscles of the forearms acted as synergists. As the contraction proceeded, the role of the biceps muscles as a prime mover lessened due to the fatigue. Then, the brachioradialis muscles exerted more strength to sustain 50% MVC. The implications of these finding were discussed.

  • Taping techniques have been usually used by physical therapists long time ago, which have been considered a useful adjunct to treatment programs for a variety of musculoskeletal disorders. Also, taping techniques may be employed as effective prophylactic methods in clinical setting because of ease application and cost effectiveness. The aims of this study were to describe background information for the management of some chronic low back pain patients with/without leg pain that don't respond to conservative treatment, to demonstrate McConnell taping as successful therapeutic strategies for treating these patients, and to provide detailed application methods of McConnell taping in order that physical therapists can readily use the taping in clinical setting. This study emphasized to illustrate biomechanical benefits of McConnell taping in controlling undesirable muscle activation by decreasing mechanical loads on specific muscles. McConnell taping may be helpful for the inhibition of overactive synergist or antagonists, the facilitation of inactive synergists, the promotion of proprioception, the optimization of joint alignment, pain reduction, and unloading of irritable neural tissue. This study provides taping examples of low back pain, sacroiliac joint dysfunction and lower extremity symptoms associated with these conditions, and discusses the possible mechanisms for their successful application.

  • This study was conducted to determine the microorganisms inhabitating in cow genitalia and their antimicrobial drug susceptibility. During the period between July, 1985 and February, 1986, a total of 111 cow genitalia, 58 from Korean native and 53 from dairy cow, were sampled at three abattoirs. Gross pathological examination and bacterial isolation and identification were performed from the genital samples. In addition antimicrobial drug susceptibility test for the microorganisms isolated, some synergistic activity among drugs were examined on the major organism isolated from the cases of endometritis and pyometra. The results are summerized as follows: 1. Among the bacteria isolated from the genitalia, Staphylococcus spp., C. pyogenes, E. coli, Proteus spp., Streptococcus spp., Bacillus spp. were most frequently isolated whereas the genera of Pasteurella, Pseudomonas, Klebsiella and Yersina were detected far less frequently. 2. In Korean native cow the genera of Straphylococcus and Steptococcus were more isolated than dairy cow while in dairy cow the genera of Corynebacterium, Proteus, Escherichia were more of ten isolated than Korean native cow. 3. From cow genital organs showing lesions of endometritis and prometra, C. pyogenes was most frequently isolated, the isolation rate being 60 percent, and follow by Staphylococcus spp., Proteus spp., E. coli and Pasteurella spp. in the order. 4. Antimicrobial drug susceptibility test conducted on the major organisms isolated showed that all the isolates were susceptible to gentamicin, cephalosporin and sulfisoxazole, but resistant to tetracycline and penicillin. 5. Twenty-nine isolates of C. pyogenes were submitted to the synergistic activity test of cephalosporin, kanamycin and streptomycin with penicillin. Synergists were demonstrated in 90 percent, 31 percent and 27 percent of isolates examined by the combined use of penicillin and cephalosporin, penicillin and kanamycin, penicillin and streptomycin, respectively. About 10 percent of the isolates were found to be indifferent by the synergism test.
