Antisymmetric-Symmetric Mode Conversion of Ultrasonic Lamb Waves and Negative Refraction on Thin Steel Plate

  • In this study, focusing of ultrasonic Lamb wave by negative refraction with mode conversion from antisymmetric to symmetric mode was investigated. When a wave propagates backward by negative refraction, the energy flux is antiparallel to the phase velocity. Backward propagation of Lamb wave is quite well known, but the behavior of backward Lamb wave at an interface has rarely been investigated. A pin-type transducer is used to detect Lamb wave propagating on a steel plate with a step change in thickness. Conversion from forward to backward propagating mode leads to negative refraction and thus wave focusing. By comparing the amplitudes of received Lamb waves at a specific frequency measured at different distance between transmitter and interface, the focusing of Lamb wave due to negative refraction was confirmed.

  • In this paper, we consider a fuzzy system representation for polynomials of two variables. The representation we use is an exact transformation of the corresponding cubic spline interpolation function. We examine some of the properties of their fuzzy rule tables md prove that the rule table is symmetric or antisymmetric depending on whether the polynomial is symmetric or antisymmetric. A few examples are included to verify our proof. These results not only provide some insights on properties of the cubic spline interpolation coefficients but also provide some help in setting up fuzzy rule tables for functions of two variables.

  • In this paper we construct orthogonal two-direction scaling function of order 3 and corresponding wavelet function. In this paper we propose a different approach using orthogonal symmetric/antisymmetric multiwavelets of order 3. An example for constructing orthogonal two-direction scaling function of order 3 and corresponding wavelet function is given.

  • The flexural vibration characteristics of a sandwich beam system with a partially inserted viscoelastic layer have been quantitatively studied using a finite element analysis in combination with a sine-sweep test. Antisymmetric mode shapes of the flexural vibration were visualized by the holographic interferometry and agreed with those calculated by the finite element simulation. Effects of the beam thickness as well as the length and thickness of partial viscoelastic layers on the system loss factor(η$\_$s/) and resonant frequency($\omega$$\_$r/) were significantly large fur the symmetric and antisymmetric modes of the beam system.

Antisymmetric mode shapes of the flexural vibration were visualized by the holographic interferometry and agreed with those calculated by the finite element simulation. Effects of the length and thickness of partial viscoelastic layers on the system loss factor($\mu$) and resonant frequency($\omega$) were considerably latge at both symmetric and antisymmetric modes of the sandwich beam.

최대 열적 좌굴하중을 갖는 두꺼운 복합재료 적층판의 설계 (Design of Thick Laminated Composite Plates for Maximum Thermal Buckling Load)

  • In this paper, the design of thick laminated composite plate subjected to thermal buckling load under uniform temperature distribution is presented. In the design procedures of composite laminated plates for maximum thermal buckling load. the finite element method based on shear deformed theory is used for the analysis or laminated plates. One-demensional search method is used to find optimal fiber orientation and, in the next step, optimal thickness is investigated. Design variables such as fiber orientation and ply thicknesses coefficient of plates are adopted. The optimal design for the symmetric or antisymmetric laminated plates consisted of 4 layers with maximum thermal buckling load is performed.

  • This paper presents critical buckling loads of laminated composites under cylindrical bending. In-plane displacements are assumed to vary exponentially through plate thickness. The accuracy of this theory is examined for symmetric/antisymmetric cross-ply, angle-ply and unsymmetric laminates under cylindrical bending. Analytical solutions are provided to investigate the effect of transverse shear deformation on critical buckling loads of the laminated plates, and the results are compared with those obtained from the first-order shear deformation plate theory and the classical laminated plate theory.

CED에 의한 계면굴절균열의 진전거동 (An Extension Behavior of an Interface Kinked Crack by CED)

  • The characteristics on the extension of the CED(Crack energy density) concept to the interface kinked crack problems in a dissimilar material are examined. Each mode contributions of CED are found by symmetric and antisymmetric components and domain independent integrals. Finite element calculation is carried out to simulate the Interface kinked crack growth on bimaterial. The focus is the establishment of fracture criterion with CED and finding the orientation of crack extension. From the results, a prediction about the extension behavior of an interface kinked crack can be done. And we show that CED can be a parameter to indicate fracture criterion at an Interface kinked crack.

Vibration analysis of a shear deformed anti-symmetric angle-ply conical shells with varying sinusoidal thickness

  • The study is to investigate the free vibration of antisymmetric angle-ply conical shells having non-uniform sinusoidal thickness variation. The arbitrarily varying thickness is considered in the axial direction of the shell. The vibrational behavior of shear deformable conical shells is analyzed for three different support conditions. The coupled differential equations in terms displacement and rotational functions are obtained. These displacement and rotational functions are invariantly approximated using cubic spline. A generalized eigenvalue problem is obtained and solved numerically for an eigenfrequency parameter and an associated eigenvector of spline coefficients. The vibration characteristic of the shells is examined for cone angle, aspect ratio, sinusoidal thickness variation, layer number, stacking sequence, and boundary conditions.

  • 본 연구에서는 Lagrangian 방정식을 이용해 알루미늄, CFRP, GFRP, BFRP 등으 로 혼합적층된 cross-ply 사각판에 대해 굽힘-신장연성을 고려하여 Runge-Kutta Gill 법을 적용하여 수치적으로 비선형진동해석을 수행하였다.그리고 여러가지 적층방법 에 따라 비선형 진동에 어떠한 영향이 미치는가를 검토하였으며, 형상비(a/b), 모우드 의 변화 그리고 탄성계수비에 따른 비선형진동 거동을 규명하였다. 한편, 기본진동 수에 대해서는 상용 유한요소프로그램인 ABAQUS의 결과와 비교하였으며, 단일 적층된 판의 비선형진동거동에 대해서는 Singh의 결과와 비교 검토하였다.
