  • In this paper, we perform the time series prediction using the SVM(Support Vector Machine). We make use of two different loss functions and two different kernel functions; i) Quadratic and $\varepsilon$-insensitive loss function are used; ii) GRBF(Gaussian Radial Basis Function) and ERBF(Exponential Radial Basis Function) are used. Mackey-Glass time series are used for prediction. For both cases, we compare the results by the SVM to those by ANN(Artificial Neural Network) and show the better performance by SVM than that by ANN.

  • In this paper, we propose a complex-valued support vector machine (SVM) classifier which process the complex valued signal measured by pulse doppler radar (PDR) to identify moving targets from the background. SVM is widely applied in the field of pattern recognition, but features which used to classify are almost real valued data. Proposed complex-valued SVM can classify the moving target using real valued data, imaginary valued data, and cross-information data. To design complex-valued SVM, we consider slack variables of real and complex axis, and use the KKT (Karush-Kuhn-Tucker) conditions for complex data. Also we apply radial basis function (RBF) as a kernel function which use a distance of complex values. To evaluate the performance of the complex-valued SVM, complex valued data from PDR were classified using real-valued SVM and complex-valued SVM. The proposed complex-valued SVM classification was improved compared to real-valued SVM for dog and human, respectively 8%, 10%, have been improved.

  • A model based on genetic algorithm optimization, GA-SVM, is proposed to warn university students of their status. This model improves the predictive effect of support vector machines. The genetic optimization algorithm is used to train the hyperparameters and adjust the kernel parameters, kernel penalty factor C, and gamma to optimize the support vector machine model, which can rapidly achieve convergence to obtain the optimal solution. The experimental model was trained on open-source datasets and validated through comparisons with random forest, backpropagation neural network, and GA-SVM models. The test results show that the genetic algorithm-optimized radial basis kernel support vector machine model GA-SVM can obtain higher accuracy rates when used for early warning in university learning.

  • It is important to control performance and a Sustainable Collaboration (SC) for the successful Supply Chain Management (SCM). This research developed a control model which analyzed SCM performances based on a Balanced Scorecard (ESC) and an SC using Support Vector Machine (SVM). 108 specialists of an SCM completed the questionnaires. We analyzed experimental data set using SVM. This research compared the forecasting accuracy of an SCMSC through four types of SVM kernels: (1) linear, (2) polynomial (3) Radial Basis Function (REF), and (4) sigmoid kernel (linear > RBF > Sigmoid > Polynomial). Then, this study compares the prediction performance of SVM linear kernel with Artificial Neural Network. (ANN). The research findings show that using SVM linear kernel to forecast an SCMSC is the most outstanding. Thus SVM linear kernel provides a promising alternative to an SC control level. A company which pursues an SCM can use the information of an SC in the SVM model.

  • In this paper, we compare the performances of SVM (Support Vector Machine) and ANN (Artificial Neural Network) machine learning models for predicting solar energy by using meteorological data. Two machine learning models were built by using fifteen kinds of weather data such as long and short wave radiation average, precipitation and temperature. Then the RBF (Radial Basis Function) parameters in the SVM model and the number of hidden layers/nodes and the regularization parameter in the ANN model were found by experimental studies. MAPE (Mean Absolute Percentage Error) and MAE (Mean Absolute Error) were considered as metrics for evaluating the performances of the SVM and ANN models. Sjoem Simulation results showed that the SVM model achieved the performances of MAPE=21.11 and MAE=2281417.65, and the ANN model did the performances of MAPE=19.54 and MAE=2155345.10776.

  • In this study, a machine learning method was proposed to use in predicting optimal replacement period of shield TBM (Tunnel Boring Machine) disc cutter. To do this, a large dataset of ground condition, disc cutter replacement records and TBM excavation-related data, collected from a shield TBM tunnel site in Korea, was built and they were used to construct a disc cutter replacement period prediction model using a machine learning algorithm, SVM (Support Vector Machine) and to assess the performance of the model. The results showed that the performance of RBF (Radial Basis Function) SVM is the best among a total of three SVM classification functions (80% accuracy and 10% error rate on average). When compared between ground types, the more disc cutter replacement data existed, the better prediction results were obtained. From this results, it is expected that machine learning methods become very popularly used in practice in near future as more data is accumulated and the machine learning models continue to be fine-tuned.

  • This paper describes eye detection algorithm using edge information and Support Vector Machine (SVM). We adopt an edge detection and labelling algorithm to detect isolated components. Detected candidate eye pairs finally verified by SVM using Radial Basis Function (RBF) kernel. A detection rate over the test set has been achieved more than 90%, and compared with template matching method. this proposed method significantly reduced FAR.

  • In this study, Multi-Radial Basis Function Support Vector Machine (Multi-RBF SVM) classifier is introduced based on a composite kernel function. In the proposed multi-RBF support vector machine classifier, the input space is divided into several local subsets considered for extremely nonlinear classification tasks. Each local subset is expressed as nonlinear classification subspace and mapped into feature space by using kernel function. The composite kernel function employs the dual RBF structure. By capturing the nonlinear distribution knowledge of local subsets, the training data is mapped into higher feature space, then Multi-SVM classifier is realized by using the composite kernel function through optimization procedure similar to conventional SVM classifier. The original training data set is partitioned by using some unsupervised learning methods such as clustering methods. In this study, three types of clustering method are considered such as Affinity propagation (AP), Hard C-Mean (HCM) and Iterative Self-Organizing Data Analysis Technique Algorithm (ISODATA). Experimental results on benchmark machine learning datasets show that the proposed method improves the classification performance efficiently.

  • In this paper, we propose a classification algorithm for postures of sitting person by using IMU(inertial measurement unit). This algorithm uses PCA(principle component analysis) for decreasing the number of feature vectors to three and SVM(support vector machine) with RBF(radial basis function) kernel for classifying posture types. In order to collect the data, we designed neckband-shaped earphones with IMU, and applied it to three subjects who are healthy adults. Subjects were experimented three sitting postures, which are neutral posture, smartphoning, and writing. As the result, our PCA-SVM algorithm showed 95% confidence while the dimension of the feature vectors was reduced to 25%.

  • A SVM is a kind of binary classifier in order to find optimal hyperplane which separates training data into two groups. Due to its remarkable performance, the SVM is applied in various fields such as inductive inference, binary classification or making predictions. Also it is a representative black box model; there are plenty of actively discussed researches about analyzing trained SVM classifier. This paper conducts a study on a method that is automatically detecting the line-shaped echoes, sun strobe echo and radial interference echo, using the SVM algorithm because the line-shaped echoes appear relatively often and disturb weather forecasting process. Using a spatial clustering method and corrected reflectivity data in the weather radar, the training data is made up with mean reflectivity, size, appearance, centroid altitude and so forth. With actual occurrence cases of the line-shaped echoes, the trained SVM classifier is verified, and analyzed its characteristics using the decision tree method.
