  • This study is aimed to establish the development plannings for the sustainable tourism of Yongyoo Island and Mooeui Island, neighboring areas of Youngjong Island, for the conservation and environmentally friendly use of Korean coastal wetlands. The concepts of sustainable tourism is described. The current development status and its problems of Youngjong Island and its neighboring areas are analysed. The development plannings for sustainable tourism of Yongyoo Island and Mooeui Island are suggested as follows : (1) The small scale tourism development projects, which are able to represent region's own characteristics, instead of large scale ones, should be performed. (2) The participation of community people should be guaranteed at the beginning stage of the decision making processes for tourism development projects. Additionally, the profits of the development should be fairly distributed among community people. (3) The coastal wetlands should be conserved and their sewage disposal capacity should be protected by way of the minimization of reclamation. (4) The coastal wetlands should be developed into the tourist resorts utilizing migratory birds as tourism resources. In addition, the carrying capacity of the coastal wetlands, which is based on the current status of ecosystems and the Environmental Impact Assessment(EIA), should be calculated.

  • Affordable housing has been a critical issue in the face of global economy and notably formulated a crucial agenda of the housing policy. While each local government seriously considers many approaches to providing affordable housing, a unique and innovative way to address it at a community level is fully uncovered, particularly nonmetropolitan areas where resources for economic development are limited and vulnerable. The purpose of this study is to examine the mechanism of the provision of affordable housing for the elderly in nonmetropolitan areas. In doing so, this research investigates the housing development and delineates it as one viable solution that stimulates local communities. The affordable housing development, as a viable option to spur local development and vibrate community, is closely reviewed, and the factors to make it feasible are drawn. The findings indicate that it is widely recognized that keeping the elderly in the community positively contributes to maintaining a sustainable community. In fact, the idea of affordable housing development for middle-class elderly people is brought by one inspired long-time resident, and it is expedited by the consensus and cohesion of local community. The development stimulates local businesses in relation to housing, and all homes sold by the elderly moving in the new housing are available for young families. Also, the presence of affordable housing for the elderly who are able to independently live is extended to a picture of aging-in-place at a broader level.

  • Purpose: This study aims to derive planning directions of community facilities integrating generations based on local communities to promote sustainable intergenerational exchange by analyzing the spatial configuration and programs of domestic and foreign generation-integrated community facilities based on local communities. Research design, data and methodology: Through theoretical consideration, the concept of intergenerational integration, types of intergenerational exchange, and spatial arrangement types were identified. Then, case study analysis of domestic and foreign community facilities with well-planned intergenerational exchange spaces and programs were conducted to identify intergenerational integration, and to derive community facility planning direction. Results: The results of this research are as follows. First, in terms of humanware, in order to revitalize continuous exchange between the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd generations, a systematic support system is needed to build mutual trust through voluntary participation by each generation. Second, it is important to provide a variety of shared spaces while maintaining the uniqueness of each facility from a hardware perspective, and must be planned in such a way that selective interaction takes place with privacy and interaction in mind. Third, in terms of software, programs that meet the characteristics of each user must be provided. Conclusions: It is expected that the results of this research can be used as basic data for planning community facilities that integrate generations based on local communities, contributing to the search for sustainable ways to revitalize intergenerational exchange in the future.

  • This paper aims to elaborate the role and availability of the community enterprise as a form of methodology in local regeneration, dealing with urban social problems generated in the process of urban development. In a situation of the increasing skepticism in the capitalism, the instability in public welfare system and disintegration of community, social economy has come to the fore as an alternative. The community enterprise, especially, has shown the potential to form a virtuous cycle in local regeneration system; residents recognize local problems by themselves; discover and utilize the local resources and assets in the process of solving the problems as an entrepreneurial form; and consequently create social and economic capital which can be reinvested in the local community. Given these aspects, Korean government has implemented supporting policies for the promotion of community enterprises, and new government's "Urban Regeneration New Deal Project" are putting more importance on the role of social and community enterprises as a propulsion unit. In this regard, this paper first explores the concept and features of community enterprise in economic and social aspects, whereby it analyzes the capacity of community enterprises as principal agencies or implements in local development. Then, the development status and institutional supports for community enterprises in the UK is revealed, and investigates case studies which are playing a revolutionary role in urban regeneration or local economic revitalization. Based on this analysis, it draws the main factors for the sustainable and autogenous community enterprise as follows: flexibility in legal forms, community owned assets, diverse fund streams and invigorating social investment market, active partnership between public and private sectors, ardent enterprisers and intermediate support organizations.

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study was to investigate the perception of nutrition teachers and the factors influencing their intention toward sustainable dietary education utilizing the theory of planned behavior (TPB). Methods: The self-administered online survey was completed by nutrition teachers in Jeollanam-do, South Korea. A total of 151 valid questionnaires were analyzed. Factor analysis and multiple regressions were employed to test the research model. Results: The study findings demonstrated that all TPB variables significantly influenced the sustainable dietary educational intention, with the degree of influence ranking as follows: external perceived behavioral control (β = 0.417), attitude (β = 0.240), internal perceived behavioral control (β = 0.207), and subjective norms (β = 0.181). For external perceived behavioral control, nutrition teachers and elementary schools exhibited higher levels compared to dietitians and middle/high schools, respectively. The participants in sustainable dietary education training programs exhibited a higher level of internal perceived behavioral control compared to those who did not participate. The highest perception levels were reported for attitude (4.26), followed by subjective norms (4.02), internal perceived behavioral control (3.67), and external perceived behavioral control (3.20). Conclusions: This study affirmed that the TPB variables elucidated the sustainable dietary educational intentions of nutrition teachers. The significant impacts of external and internal perceived behavioral control, attitude, and subjective norms on educational intentions were confirmed. Consequently, proactive support from schools and governments is essential to enhance the facilitating factors and mitigate the barriers toward sustainable dietary education in schools.
