This study was conducted to investigate the quantity and characteristics of manure and urine produced by lactating sow fed commercial diet for 24 days. 3 way cross bred 10 lactating sows with litters were alloted at farrowing pen. Crude protein and digestible energy were 14% and 3,467 kcal in diet, respectively. Average body weight of sow was 237.5kg. Feces with urine was produced 6.98kg per day by lactating sow ranging from 5.72 to 7.93kg. Manure solid was produced 2.75 kg per day ranging from 2.17 to 3.87kg and urine 4.23kg per day ranging from 3.55 to 4.06kg, respectively. Dry matter of feces and urine were 29.91 and 1.54%, respectively. Nitrogen and phosphorus contents in fresh feces were 0.86 and 0.30%, respectively. Nitrogen content in urine was 0.86, and phosphorus in urine was 0.47%. pH in manure was 6.73 and in urine was 8.38 respectively. Biochemical oxygen demand and suspended solid in urine were 5,196 and 308mg/$\ell$, respectively.
In this study, membranes were coupled to a sequencing batch reactor for simultaneous removal of organic matter and nitrogen, and the influences of MLSS (mixed liquor suspended solid) concentration and the sludge loading rate on membrane fouling and bioactivity were investigated. The amount of membrane fouling slightly increased with MLSS concentration at both non-aeration and aeration conditions, but effect of MLSS concentration was more significant at aeration condition. Although the effect of MLSS concentration on membrane fouling was found to be insignificant at low concentration level, extremely low sludge loading, which were generated by the maintenance of large amount of biomass in the reactor, caused severe membrane fouling, and air scouring effect decreased significantly in this condition. Specific bioactivity was constantly reduced as sludge loading rate decreased. In spite of high MLSS concentration over 17,000 mg/L, the activity of the reactor decreased at extremely low sludge loading rate presumably due to the lower oxygen transfer and the competition of biomass to deficient substrate.
Chitin was extracted from crab shell by Hackman method and chitosan was prepared to chitin, that was deacetylated under various concentration of NaOH solution and reaction time at constant temperature, $100^{\circ}C$. Samples were A=19%, B=52%, C=70% and D=93% deacetylation's chitosan and they were tested. When deacetylation was increased, $\overline{Mw}$ was decreased and removal rate of suspended solid and removal rate of chemical oxygen demand were increased. Suspended solid and removal rate of chemical oxygen demand showed the better at pH 9 and pH 7 than any other pH range.
Wastewater reuse for agricultural irrigation needs treatment and control of pathogens to minimize risks to human health and the environment. In order to evaluate the water quality of UV-treated reclaimed water, this study focused on the relationship between micro-pathogens and particulate matters. MS2 was selected as an index organism because it has similar characteristics to human enteric virus and strong resistance to UV disinfection. The turbidity and suspended solid (SS) were selected for test parameters. In this study, it was performed with different UV doses (30 and $60mJ/cm^2$) for estimation of the MS2 inactivation rate using collimated beam batch experiments in the laboratory. The experiment results by turbidity or SS concentration presented that the increased concentration of them lowered MS2 inactivation. At the turbidity (below 4.27 NTU) and SS (below 1.47 mg/L) of the low level range, the inactivation of 60 UV dose is higher than 30 UV dose. However, at the turbidity and SS of the high level, the increasing UV dose did not show apparent increasing the MS2 inactivation. In quantitative microbial risk assessment (QMRA), it can confirm the trend that $P_D$ and turbidity concentrations have positive correlationship at the low concentration, which was also observed in SS. The QMRA can be helpful in communication with public for safe wastewater reuse and be recommended.

There are two major issues for activated sludge process in sewage treatment plant. One is how to make sewage be more clean and the other is the energy saving in sewage treatment process. The major monitoring sewage qualities are chemical oxygen demand, phosphorus, nitrogen, suspended solid in effluent. These are transmitted to the national TMS(Telemetry Monitoring System) at every hour. If these exceed the environmental standard, the environmental charges imposed. So, these water qualities are to be controlled below the environmental standard in operation of sewage treatment plant. And recently, the energy saving is also important in process operation. Over 50% energy is consumed in blowers and motors for injection oxygen into aeration tank. So, with the water qualities to be controlled below the environmental standard, the energy saving also is to be accomplished for efficient plant management. Almost researches are aimed to control water quality without considering energy saving. AI techniques have been used for control water quality. AI modeling simulator provided the optimal control inputs(blower speed, waste sludge, return sludge) for control water quality. Blower speed is the main control input for activated sludge process. To make sewage be more clean, the excessive blower speed is supplied, but water quality is not better than the previous. In results, non necessary energy is consumed. In this paper we propose a new method that the energy saving also is to be accomplished with the water qualities to be controlled below the environmental standard for efficient plant management. Water qualities in only aeration tank are used the inputs of fuzzy models. Outputs of these models are chemical oxygen demand, phosphorus, nitrogen, suspended solid in effluent and have the environmental standards. In test, we found this method could save 10% energy than the previous methods.
To estimate pollution status of livestock wastewater on four piggeries and one abattoir in Taegu area, physicochemical water analysis such as pH, suspended solid(SS), biochemical oxygen demand(BOD) and chemical oxygen demand(COD), and bacteriological examinations such as number of total viable cells and number of coliform with or without antibiotic resistance were carried out. The results obtained were as follows : The pH values of raw sewage ranged from 9.0 to 7.2 that of the effluent treated was lowed to 5.6~7.7. The SS values of raw sewage ranged from 5,275ppm to 120ppm and those of the efflunet decreased to 162~30ppm. The BOD values of raw sewage ranged 6,200ppm to 120ppm and those of the effluent treated decreased to 111 ~80ppm. The COD values of raw sewage ranged from 5,725ppm to 298ppm and those of the effluent decreased to 137~76ppm. The total viable cells of raw sewage ranged from $8.5{\times}11^{11}$/ml to $9.9{\times}10^7$/ml, those of the effluent decreased to $5.6{\times}10^6{\sim}4.2{\times}10^8/ml.$ The total coliforms of raw sewage ranged from $5.5{\times}10^9$/ml to $1.3{\times}10^5$/ml, those of the effluent decreased to $3.6{\times}10^4ml{\sim}9.0{\times}10^6$/ml. The incidence of streptomycin resistant coliforms was the highest(1.8~66.7%), and followed by tetracycline(1.7~64%), kanamycin(9.3~50.l%), ampicillin(0.06~45.5%) and chloramphenicol(14.3~33.5%) to total coliforms of raw sewage. The incidence of antibiotic resistant coliforms of raw sewage in farms ranged from 3.4~66.7% and that of abattoir's was 0.06% to 14.3%. Antibiotic resistant coliform counts of raw sewage ranged from 1.3$\times$10$^{8}$ /ml to 3.9$\times$10$^3$/ml, those of the effluent decreased to $3.0{\times}10^1{\sim}2.3{\times}10^5/ml$.
Water-bloom and red tide due to eutrophication have been overgrown and have caused various environmental problems. Recently, however, research on bid-diesel that can utilize algae as an energy source has been actively carried out. In particular, many studies variously have been conducted to utilize algal photosynthesis oxygen as a supply method for reducing the energy by an air blower in MWTP. In this study, a lab scale algae-nitrification reactor was operated to replace the oxygen required for nitrogen removal and the operation period was largely divided into three sections. In the first section, ammonia nitrogen removal efficiency was 24 ~ 38% according to the MLSS (Mixed Liquer Suspended Solid) concentration. In the second section, ammonia nitrogen removal efficiency was 38 ~ 50% according to the micro-algae concentration and in the last section ammonia nitrogen removal efficiency was 61 ~ 80% according to HRT (Hydraulic Retention Time). As a result, as the MLSS decreased and algae biomass increased, the ammonia nitrogen removal efficiency tended to increase, but the effect of Algae biomass was greater than that of MLSS.
The concentration of mecury was measured in the seawater, sediment, Mytilus edulis and suspended solid in the coastal area of Onsan. Samples were collected at spring and neap tide in the period from October 9 to November 2, 1984. The range and mean of mecury concentration in the seawater are $0.08\~0.73{\mu}g/\iota\;and\;0.19{\mu}g/\iota$. The range and mean of mecury concentration in the suspended solid was $0.70\~17.0{\mu}g/g$ TSS and $4.6{\mu}g/g$ TSS respectively. The average concentration of mecury in Mytilus edulis was 0.10mg/kg which was higher than that of the reference area, Chung Mu. The mean value of concentration factor of mercury in wet base is 500 in Mytilus edulis. The average concentration of mecury in sediment was 0.15mg/kg.

The purpose of this study were to evaluate the effect of best management practices (BMPs) of Haean highland agricultural catchment ($62.8km^2$) under future climate change using SWAT (Soil and Water Assessment Tool). Before future evaluation, the SWAT was setup using 3 years (2009~2011) of observed daily streamflow, suspended solid (SS), total nitrogen (T-N), and total phosphorus (T-P) data at three locations of the catchment. The SWAT was calibrated with average 0.74 Nash and Sutcliffe model efficiency for streamflow, and 0.78, 0.63, and 0.79 determination coefficient ($R^2$) for SS, T-N, and T-P respectively. Under the HadGEM-RA RCP (Representative Concentration Pathway) 4.5 and 8.5 scenarios, the future precipitation and maximum temperature showed maximum increases of 8.3 % and $4.2^{\circ}C$ respectively based on the baseline (1981~2005). The future 2040s and 2080s hydrological components of evapotranspiration, soil moisture, and streamflow showed changes of +3.2~+17.2 %, -0.1~-0.7 %, and -9.1~+8.1 % respectively. The future stream water quality of suspended solid (SS), total nitrogen (T-N), and total phosphorus (T-P) showed changes of -5.8~+29.0 %, -4.5~+2.3 %, and +3.7~+17.4 % respectively. The future SS showed wide range according to streamflow from minus to plus range. We can infer that this was from the increase of long-term rainfall variability in 2040s less rainfalls and 2080s much rainfalls. However, the results showed that the T-P was the future target to manage stream water quality even in 2040s period.

In this study, sewage was fed with up flow direction into a reactor equipped with a screw to circulate media that had lower specific gravity than water. It was observed that the media in the reactor could be circulated by a screw with reverse flow of the sewage feeding from the top to the bottom direction. Under these conditions, concentrations of inflow and outflow pollutants were measured at the filtration unit. Experimental results revealed stable circulation of the media with a screw in the reactor. Circulation of the media in the reactor showed more efficiency in removing the pollutants (particulate matters and organics) than no circulation. The maximum removal efficiencies of suspended solid (SS), chemical oxygen demand (CODmn), and total phosphorus (T-P) were 96%, 72% and 65%, respectively. Improvements for SS, CODmn and T-P removals with circulation of media were 52.38%, 43.14% and 118.12% respectively, compared to those without circulation.
