The purpose of this research is to open new horizon in the plastic art centering the clothings, to examine the characteristics of the clothing style of Surrealism closely which is being lighted up again newly in the recent culture that is in a state of flux, and futher to contribute to the cre-ation of future clothes by analyzing Surrealism once again which is considered to have affected most in the aspects of idea and technique from the era of modernism to the era of post modern-ism, to understand and develop the relation of modern style of paintings and clothing which consist of many complicated and diverse elements. As for the method of research, after analyzing the formation and characteristics of painting style of Surrealism, painting style of Surrealism, painting style of Surrealism were classified largely into D paysement and Automatism, which were then reviewed. And the characteristics of fashion style of Surrealism were compared and analyzed with painting style of Surrealism, for this, fashion of Surrealism dur-ing recent five years from 1990 to 1994, among the fashion from Pr t- -Porter concentrated re-view was made for the ones made public at Paris-London Collections. By the result observed through this research, the trompe-l'oeil double image technique of many clothes created by E. Schiaparelli who was strongly influenced by Surrealism in 1930s were succeeded with its inspiration of Surrealism by the radical fashion designers recently and we were able to know that it is being created again by fresh senses. Followings are the discussions on homogenity of the characteristics of fashion style of Surreal-ism with the painting style of Surrealism Therefore if we analyze the characteristics of fashion style of Surrealism, Automatism ex-pression style which takes out only image borrowing the power of unconsciousness, instead of factual transposition, is forming the main cur-rent after 1990s. We can find the fashion style of this Surrealism appear persistently, entirely irrel-evant to the silhouettes of 20th century.

At the outset, surrealism starts from pure art, but surrealism has greatly influenced commercial art and fashion circles, more so than any other genre of art. The critical thinking methods of surrealism and its mode of expression continues to influence fashion theory extensively. Even now, surrealism may be found in the designs presented in fashion circles and is still expected for future lines. Surrealism in modern fashion has been reborn, newly integrated and transformed, based on the features of Surrealism paintings. The characteristics of its forms can be found in a combination of modern material, modern design and new skills and the classical items : bodyform molding context of architecture, experimental and sex-appealing of body. Expression was made by borrowing natural motives and recreating natural fabrics while the existing typical idea about clothes was destructed, with the boundary of patterns changed. Expression was also made by mixing items, uniting future images, and using up-to-date functional techniques. This study is significant that up-to-date technological culture expands cyber-space and increases surrealistic expressions by combined heterogeneous materials, thus arousing much interest. The purpose of this study is to determine interrelationship between how surrealism developed and what formative properties those clothes affected by surrealism obtained in the 1990s.

Surrealism, appeared in the beginning of the 20th century and affected almost all art fields, is one of the most representative art trends. Surrealism, not restricted from any rules and traditions but tried to produce a new appreciations in the world of dream and unconsciousness, also has affected fashion. In this paper, I have tried to find out how the surrealism has been expressed in the modern fashion, especially in Thierry Mugller's design. Thierry Mugler is one of the most famous designers who have expressed surrealism in their fashion designs. I have classified his designs and researched them by the application into the human body and the nature, by the metaphor and transformation of things, and by the metamorphosis of location and an optical illusion. It was based on Depaysement which is one of the ways in surrealistic expressions. The result of the study is followings; First, surrealism made fashion design possible to creat unlimitedly and sublimated it anew modern beauty by attempting the varieties of the fashion, not restricted from any rules and traditions. Second, surrealism made the general public to complete anew recognition and valuation about fashion by expressing the external character and the internal meaning on the clothes. Third, surrealism made people to recognize, which clothes is not simply wearing thing but also one of the art expression forms.

Surrealism is 20th century avant-garde art movement that gave the greatest impact. Surrealism art as Visual us consciousness that exists or is worth checking out. 1920 around the concept of the surreal appears on the Visual language is fine art molding, including design, fashion, advertising, etc, all of the art field. In addition, their artistic concept is limited to pure art without the commercialization and product as the transition you want to find a way to be. As a result, the concept of the surreal fine art as well as the design sector in particular, furniture design, but many more impact art trends. Therefore, this study examines the concept of the surrealism, appeared in the furniture design based on surrealism representation of research aims. And how these representations are modern furniture design in any affected for research. Representation and features about the analysis is largely four separated by the survey, and classified representation of research and analysis features.

Various and complex cultural phenomena have led to many changes in the space. The concept of unconsciousness, among others, and experimental expression technique and the concepts from surrealism that rather attaches great importance to contingency than intentional attempt have been employed in the space. The abstract expression as expressional characteristics of surrealism makes the space ambiguous through the concept of automatism using the approach of indeterminism and double image expression, and represents the space providing diversity through the dualism. In contrast, objective expression, which was based on depaysement, generates the tension and expresses the dramatic situation in such a way and manner which are intentional, distorted transformed, together with heterogenous meanings aligned through the reversal appeared in the techniques of collage and paranoiac-critical method. However if such space accommodating the expressional characteristics of surrealism is approached as superficial concept in analyzing the human's inner consciousness and imaginary society, expression of the ultimate concept contained in the expressional characteristics of surrealism can hardly be achieved. Hence, the spatial analysis from the semiotic approach, instead of unilateral method aimed to convey the meaning only, which creates the signification, was adopted. The study, as effective approach to the space accommodating the expressional characteristics of surrealism, was intended systematically evaluate the concreteness of understanding and generation of meaning through the semiotic method. Greimas' semiotic square analysis to the space plays the important role in generating the spatial meaning, as well as is needed for objective analysis of the importance of various characteristics and methodology which the space contains through the expressional characteristics of surrealism.

This research searched characteristic of expression of Surrealism in Fashion Art which is new genre as source of design origination and classified as type of Time, Instinct, Existence and analyzed these and after analyzed result, it tried to verify the value aesthetically and followed by compared characteristic of expression in Surrealism appeared in Art based on content of type of expression that deduced and discussed it. Also comparing common characteristic appeared in Fashion Art in surrealism of the east and the west, it suggested discussion that try to find out identity that draw more near to Fashion Art. Results of research are as following these; Surrealist deliver sentiment and emotion that impossible to happen in reality and primitive thought by combination of unrealistic image and this tendency concreted by expression of Time, Expression of Instinct, expression of Existence. It appeared that deconstruct function and purpose of Fashion Art and existing traditional beauty of form and it is in collusion with way of expression of modelling used in Art of Surrealism those are Irregularity, Disorder, Imperfection and Dissymmetry.

The surrealism for the revelation of the unconscious realms shares the inner world of mentality with modern fashion display for the visual expression of sensation each other. The analysis of the influence which automatism technique of surrealism exerts on fashion display showed as follows : 1) The automatism technique elevated the dramatic effect of the sales room by scraping the perspective, or the principle of visual arts. 2) It maximized the effect of subject of the display by coinciding surrealism with realism. 3) The technique which distorts the things heralded the strong message to customers by letting them keep away from the fixed idea. 4) Humorous expression of display brought about the effect of sales stimulation by giving astonishment, shock and exaggeration. 5) Expression of surrealism and realism caused customers to feel shock, illusion, fantasy. 6) The automatism technique expressed the high-tech image, and free expression by revealing the diversity of subject. 7) Display hinted from nature satisfied the mental desire of the human beings to be assimilated with nature. The formative characteristic presented the new possibility of combination of display with arts through the avant-garde sensation. Sale's room, or the marketing space was to be sublimated to three dimensional art space, which enhanced the image of sale's room, furthermore meeting the demand of moderner's lifestyle.

This thesis, drastically breaking from the prior form of art, searched mutual relationship between surrealism centering around surrealism which tried to liberate the spirit of humanbeing by investigating internal world of the humanbeing. That is to say, it is the purpose of this thesis to study the relationship between artistic trend and costume by grasping how the artistic trend of an age was specifically accepted and expressed to the modern costume as the foundation of fashion. Followings are the searched results for searching mutual relationship of the surrealism and modern costume. At first, surrealism made it possible from modern costume to an expression of formative art, and at the same time emerge from existed uniform costume, and thus presented new possibility to the harmony of costume and art with fresh and avant-garde sense. Second, by being applied the expressing method of depaysement which could materialize surrealistic image to the modern costume from various angels, and thus it suggested new aesthetic conception different from general conception of the traditional costume. Third, with regard to modern costume, introduction of various object due to thought of surrealism was a new and innovative attempt, and thus it suggested infinitive possibility of creation. So, it suggested that we could thrown away a fixed idea and that every objects could be moulded. As the result of the afore-said, wide application of the idea and formative feature of surrealism with regard to modern costume did not only ring the diversification and individualization of the costume escaped from the past traditional idea, but also at the same time prepared modern costume with the moment to develop as a formative arts.

This paper explores rich and complex implications of Marcel Duchamp's Mile of String which he created for "First Papers of Surrealism," the Surrealist international exhibition in New York in 1942. Part of a larger project devoted to investigating Duchamp's role in Surrealist exhibitions and his relation to the avant-garde group, this paper focuses on Duchamp's exhibition installation in the 1942 show. Under the title of "g$\acute{e}$n$\acute{e}$rateur-arbitre" Duchamp played an important role as installation and exhibition designer in a series of major Surrealist exhibitions in the 1930's-1960's. The "First Papers of Surrealism" was held by Surrealists who exiled in New York during World War I, and Duchamp created a labyrinthine installation of string for the exhibition, which physically blocked the spectator and optically hindered his or her contemplative view. Unraveling the intricately related meanings of Mile of String as an independent work of art and an installation for a specific exhibition, I examine the work on two levels: first, how the work was situated in the context of Duchamp's oeuvre, particularly his earlier work employing string or thread; second, how and in what way the installation rendered a critique on Surrealism as a group and an avant-garde movement. More specifically, by exploring the concepts of 'pataphysics' and voluntary 'nomadism' implicated in Duchamp's work, I suggest that his Mile of String asserted a critical stance against nationalism and collective identity of Surrealism and manifested a radical individualism founded upon what he called the spirit of 'expatriation.'

Many works have been published with using surrealism techniques among the representation characteristics of media space of video and art. It has begun to research on these work. But many of these researches have not cover surrealism techniques in game graphic. So, in this paper, we have analyzed representation characteristics of fantasy online game's character using surrealism techniques in surrealism. In result, there are means to express nonexistent image in real world in surrealism by using such as collage of parts of body, animals, and other object, deformation, and distortion. Also, these methods have been used in game characters of online game based on fantasy. We analyzed on characteristics of fantasy game's character in aesthetic point view. It should be profitable for making creative and favorable game characters and making creative game graphic by increasing the possibility of art techniques usage.
