  • The dependence of the node size in the condensation heat transfer coefficient for an inclined surface is eliminated and two correlations applicable for laminar and turbulent regimes are implemented in RELAP5/MOD3.1. The newly implemented correlations are used according to their applicable ranges of the film Reynolds numbers Reps which are calculated recursively to track the condensate film thickness along the condensation length. The modified version is compared with the original one through comparison with an analytical solution and the simulation of the Secondary Condensers (SC). It turns out that the simulation results by this modified version are independent of the node size and are better agreement with the analytical solution than those by the original one.

  • To overcome the large ring gear manufacturing problems seen in slewing bearings and girth gears, pin gear drive units have been developed. Among them, a novel slewing bearing with an internal pinwheel gear set (i-PGS) is introduced in this paper. First, we consider the exact cam pinion profile of i-PGS with the introduction of a profile shift coefficient. Furthermore, a new root relief profile modification for the i-PGS cam pinion is presented. Then, the contact stresses are investigated to determine the characteristics of the surface fatigue by varying the shape design parameters. The results show that the contact stresses of i-PGS can be reduced significantly by increasing the profile shift coefficient. In addition, the contact ratio, a measure of teeth overlapping action, decreases with the decrease of the allowable pressure angle.

  • The hydrophobic nature of the wool surface give rise to difficult penetration of dye molecules. Among all the methods of modification, graft polymerization is an attractive method to impart a variety of functional groups to a polymer. Grafting has been made by irradiating the light on the polymer in the presence of a solvent containing monomer. The energy source commonly used are high-energy electrons, X-rays, UV and visible light. UV irradiation is a relatively low-energy radiation in comparison with others since it has the least possibility to change bulk properties. In the present paper, a photo-reactive dye was synthesized from quinizarin by the reaction with methacryloyl chloride. The synthesized dye was continuously grafted onto wool fabric at room temperature by UV irradiation. Several key parameters including UV energy, dye concentration and pH have been examined to understand their influence on the photoreactive coloration.

  • We employed in-situ spectroscopic ellipsometry(SE) and imaging ellipsometry(IE) to study the interaction of water and photoresist(PR) in 193 immersion lithography. Real time measurement of SE showed thickness increase when PR was immerged in water indicating swelling effect. From the temporal evolution we could observe its reaction-limited behavior. Meanwhile, IE could identify the modification of PR surface by contact of water even for a short period of a second.

  • Increase in the hydrophilicity (HPCT) of polysulfone (PS) membrane and subsequently decrease in fouling can be achieved by surface modification of PS based membranes. Therefore, in this work, ultrafiltration membranes with increased HPCT were prepared using the enantiomeric tartaric acid (D-TA) and racemic tartaric acid (DL-TA). Phase inversion technique was used for the preparation of polyethylene glycol and TA blended PS membrane. Morphological analysis of the fabricated membranes was done by scanning electron microscope and atomic force microscopy. Bovine serum albumin (BSA) solution was taken for finding the permeation and rejection behavior of prepared membranes. Maximum BSA rejection was increased by 70.5% for the modified membrane.

  • This study is to find the effect of the molecular weight distribution of components on the freeness and physical properties of paper by observing the change of properties according the modification of fibers by using production technology and process technology together to develop additives which can effectively control according to the purpose of paper-making process and by combining low molecular weight cellulase (below MW 20,000; CMC activity 400 unit) with different enzyme's molecular weight and activity and high molecular weight cellulase(MW 20,000∼80,000;CMC activity 90,000 unit) and then process them in Sw-BKP(Softwood Bleached Kraft Pulp) and Hw-BKP(Hardwood Bleached Kraft Pulp) and Cotton Linter Pulp and OCC(Old Corrugated Container) with different properties of pore of surface of fibers respectively, since it is judged that making the appropriate composition ratio of components is necessary in consideration of the properties of fibers and paper-making process.

  • A three-dimensional aerodynamic shape optimization technique in inviscid compressible flows is developed by using a parallel continuous adjoint formulation on unstructured meshes. A new surface mesh modification method is proposed to overcome difficulties related to patch-level remeshing for unstructured meshes, and the effect of design sections on aerodynamic shape optimization is examined. Applications are made to three-dimensional wave drag minimization problems including an ONERA M6 wing and the EGLIN wing-pylon-store configuration. The results show that the present method is robust and highly efficient for the shape optimization of aerodynamic configurations, independent of the number of design variables used.

  • We have developed variety of LCD technologies for the out-door display, which improve out-door readability as well as reliability from external impacts. This improvement was made possible by new approach on LCD cell optical design and modification of LCD surface, which allows surrounding light to be transmitted to enhance the visibility and at the same time filtering out light, which are considered to be source of noise in terms of visibility. This technology enables users to maintain high display performance in both in-door & out-door environments moreover alternatively choosing in-door/out-door.

  • Purpose: Surface modification is important techniques in modern dental and orthopedic implants. This study was performed to try embedding of bioactive materials in porous Ti implants. Methods: Porous Ti implant samples were fabricated by sintering of spherical Ti powders in a high vacuum furnace. It's diameter and height were 4mm and 20mm. Embedding process was used to suction and vacuum chamber. Loading properties of porous Ti implants were evaluated by scanning electron microscope(SEM), confocal laser scanning microscope(CLSM), and UV-Vis-NIR spectrophotometer. Results: Internal pore structure was formed fully open pore. Average pore size and porosity were $10.253{\mu}m$ and 17.506%. Conclusion: Porous Ti implant was fabricated successfully by sintering method. Particles are necking strongly each other and others portions were vacancy. This porous structure can be embedded to bioactive materials. Therefore bioactive materials will be able to embedding to porous Ti implants. Bioactive materials embedding in the porous Ti implant will induced new bone faster.

  • Alizarin Red S modified screen printed carbon electrodes were developed for the electrochemical detection of aluminum ion. The electrodes developed use screen-printed carbon electrodes(SPCEs) coupled with chemical modification with an organic chelator, Alizarin Red S(ARS), for aluminum ion detection in aqueous solution. For sensor fabrication ARS was directly immobilized on the surface of SPCEs using PVA-SbQ(The poly(vinyl alcohol) bearing stryrylpyridinium groups). Aluminum concentrations were indirectly estimated by amperometric determination of the non-complexed ARS immobilized on the electrodes, after its complexation with aluminum. The sensitivity of the sensor developed was $3.8\;nA{\mu}M^{-1}cm^{-2}$ and the detection limit for aluminum was $25\;{\mu}M$.
