  • In this research We investigated the effect of UV/O3, $O_3$ treatments of Indium-tin oxide(ITO) surface on the performance of organic light emitting devices(OLEDs). The fundamental structure of OLEDs was ITO(anode) / TPD(Hole Transport Layer) / $Alq_3$ / Al(cathode). We performed UV/O3, $O_3$ treatments and found that both treatments enhanced the performance of OLEDs. Current-Voltage, Luminance-Voltage characteristics were measured at room temperature.

  • Purpose: This study aims to get the fundamental data which is necessary to the development direction of implant surface treatment hereafter, based on the understanding the surface structure and properties of titanium which is suitable for the absorption of initial tissue fluid by researching effects of additional surface treatments fir sandblasted with large git and acid-etched(SLA) titanium on surface micro-roughness, static wettability, fibronectin adsorption Materials and Method: In the Control groups, the commercial pure titanium disks which is 10mm in diameter and 2mm in thickness were treated with HCI after sandblasting with 50$\mu$m $Al_2O_3$. The experiment groups were made an experiment each by being treated with 1) 22.5% nitric acid according to SLA+ASTM F86 protocol, 2) SLA+30% peroxide, 3) SLA+NaOH, 4) SLA+ Oxalic acid, and 5) SLA+600$^{\circ}C$ heating. In each group, the value of Ra and RMS which are the gauges of surface roughness was measured, surface wettability was measured by analyzing with Sessile drop method, and fibronectin adsorption was measured with immunological assay. The significance of each group was verified by (SPSS, ver.10.0 SPSS Inc.) Kruskal-Wallis Test. (α=0.05) And the correlation significance between Surface micro-roughness and surface wettability. surface roughness and fibronectin adsorption, and surface wettability and fibronectin adsorption was tested by Spearman's correlation analysis. Result: All measure groups showed the significant differences in surface micro-roughness, surface wettability, and fibronectin adsorption. (p<0.05) There was no significance in correlation among the surface micro-roughness, surface wettability, and fibronectin adsorption. (p>0.05) Conclusion: Surface micro-roughness and surface wettability rarely affected the absorption of initial tissue fluid on the surface of titanium.

  • PURPOSE. Debonding of a composite resin core of the fiber post often occurs at the interface between these two materials. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of different surface treatment methods on bond strength between fiber posts and composite core. MATERIALS AND METHODS. Sixty-four fiber posts were picked in two groups (Hetco and Exacto). Each group was further divided into four subgroups using different surface treatments: 1) silanization; 2) sandblasting; 3) Treatment with 24% $H_2O_2$, and 4) no treatment (control group). A cylindrical plexiglass matrix was placed around the post and filled with the core resin composite. Specimens were stored in 5000 thermal cycles between $5^{\circ}C$ and $55^{\circ}C$. Tensile bond strength (TBS) test and evaluation using stereomicroscope were performed on the specimen and the data were analyzed using two-way ANOVA, Post Hoc Scheffe tests and Fisher's Exact Test (${\alpha}$=.05). RESULTS. There was a significant difference between the effect of different surface treatments on TBS ($P$ <.001) but different brands of post ($P$=.743) and interaction between the brand of post and surface treatment ($P$=.922) had no significant effect on TBS. Both silanization and sandblasting improved the bonding strength of fiber posts to composite resin core, but there were not any significant differences between these groups and control group. CONCLUSION. There was not any significant difference between two brands of fiber posts that had been used in this study. Although silanization and sandblasting can improve the TBS, there was not any significant differences between surface treatments used.

  • Titanium barrier membranes are prepared to investigate the effect of surface-treatments, such as machining, electropolishing, anodizing, and electropolishing + TiN coating, on the biocompatibility and physical properties of the membranes. The surface roughness (Ra) of the membrane decreases from machining ($0.37{\pm}0.09{\mu}m$), TiN coating ($0.22{\pm}0.09{\mu}m$), electropolishing ($0.20{\pm}0.03{\mu}m$), to anodizing ($0.15{\pm}0.03{\mu}m$). The highest ductility (24.50 %) is observed for the electropolished Ti membrane. No evidence of causing cell lysis or toxicity is found for the membranes regardless of the surface-treatments. Cell adhesion results of L-929 and MG-63 show that the machined Ti membrane exhibits the highest cell adhesion while the electropolished membrane is the best membrane for the L-929 cell proliferation after 7 days. However, no appreciable difference in MG-63 cell proliferation among variously surface-treated membranes is detected, suggesting that the electropolished Ti membrane is likely to be the best membrane due to the synergic combination of tailored flexibility and excellent fibroblast proliferation.

  • PURPOSE. The aim of the present study was to investigate the effects of surface treatments on the bond strengths between polymer-containing restorative materials and two dual-cure resin cements. MATERIALS AND METHODS. In the present study, rectangular samples prepared from Lava Ultimate (LU) and Vita Enamic (VE) blocks were used. The specimen surfaces were treated using CoJet sandblasting, 50 ㎛ Al2O3 sandblasting, % 9 HF (hydrofluoric) acid, ER,Cr:YSGG laser treatment, and Z-Prime. Dual-cure resin cements (TheraCem and 3M RelyX U 200) were applied on each specimen's treated surface. A micro-tensile device was used to evaluate shear bond strength. Statistical analysis was performed using the SAS 9.4v3. RESULTS. While the bond strength using TheraCem with LU or VE was not statistically significant (P=.164), the bond strength using U200 with VE was statistically significant (P=.006). In the TheraCem applied VE groups, Z-Prime and HF acid were statistically different from CoJet, Laser, and Sandblast groups. In comparison of TheraCem used LU group, there was a statistically significant difference between HF acid and other surface treatments. CONCLUSION. The bonding performance between the restorative materials and cements were material type-dependent and surface treatment had a large effect on the bond strength. Within the limitations of the study, the use of both U200 and TheraCem may be suggested if Z-prime was applied to intaglio surfaces of VE. The cementation of LU using TheraCem is suitable after HF acid conditioning of the restoration surfaces.

  • The empty fruit bunch fibers(EFB) of oil palm were examined for optimal utilization of the EFB fibers. The EFB fibers were obtained by shredding EFB, followe by removal of fines. The surface properties of the fibers were modified with various pre-treatments, such as hot water extraction, the soaking treatments with NaOH, $ClO_2$ and n-hexane. The changes in the fiber surface were examined with FT-IR method, which showed the changes in chemical compositions such as pectin, lignin, and etc. according to the pre-treatment methods. And the z-directional tensile testing of the fiber mold made of the treated EFB fibers showed the changes in the bonding strength by the pre-treatments. The fiber mold made of EFB fibers treated with $ClO_2$ showed the greater increase in the tensile energy absorption although the NaOH treatment resulted in the severer impact on the EFB fibers.
