Grain refinement of the structural steels was selected as the most effective method to meet improvement of strength and toughness without heat treatment. So, the future research and developing direction of ultra fine grain steels are more and more required to response to the production of eco - materials(environmental consciousness - materials) In this paper, the product of surface fine grain steels by CRCT and Inverse Transformation Method by warm deformation of martensite is carried out in order to improve the production process of Dowel Bar. It is possible to obtain surface ultra fine grain steel, when warm deformation of martensite formed after quenching is carried out from 730$^{\circ}C$ to 800$^{\circ}C$ in the finishing rolling step. The characters of surface with ultra fine grain steel is showing the cementite particles inside the ferrite grain and fine ferrite grain of about 1.2$\mu\textrm{m}$ in size.

In this paper, we have analyzed the temperature variation trend of a slab on between the process of reheating furnace and the termination of roughing mill process during hot rolling process. 1) cooling by radiation and convection current in the air, 2) plastic deformation heat, 3) cooling by descaling water, 4) cooling by contact with rolling rolls and/or transmitting rolls. For the analysis, the factors have been adopted as the problems of the rolling process to be solved such that we have established an application technique in relation to the determination of boundary conditions on the slab surface. We have presented a procedure for an analysis of the cooling phenomenon treated as a problem of two-dimensional transient heat flow using finite difference equation and suggested techniques of implementing sequentialized rolling tasks in correlation with the procedure. From the result of simulation, it is shown that the difference between calculation value and measurement value is within the range of the industrial measurement error. Also, it is proved that the assumptions, conditions, and properties used in the computer simulation is appropriate by showing that the pattern of a drop in temperature at each rolling event is in accord with real circumstances.
In this study, we examined corrosion behaviors of two types of Pb alloys for a lead acid battery comparatively. One containing 6.6 wt% Sn, 36 mg/kg Bi, and 612.4 mg/kg Ca was prepared by twin-roll continuous casting. The other containing 5.2 wt% Sn, 30.5 mg/kg Ag, and 557 mg/kg Ca was made by twin-belt continuous casting. Potentiodynamic polarization tests were performed to evaluate corrosion resistance. Cyclic voltammetry was done to examine oxidation and reduction reactions occurring on the surface of each alloy in 4.8 M H2SO4 solution. Electrochemical test results implied that the Pb alloy prepared with the twin-belt casting method was less stable than that cast with the twin-roll method. Such results might be due to precipitations formed during the casting process. Rolling did not appear to affect the corrosion behavior of the twin-roll samples with Ag < 10 mg/kg, while it reduced the anodic reaction of Ag on the surface of the twin-belt sample with 30.5 mg/kg Ag.
The effective case depth for case-hardened rolling bearing has been discussed. For this purpose, rolling contact fatigue tests for ball bearings built with inner race of various hardness values were conducted until L10 calculating rating life using a bearing life test machine under radial loading. Then, the distribution of residual stress below the inner raceway, which depended on the hardness value, was measured by X-ray diffraction. As a result, the linear relationship was established between the hardness value of the inner race and the theoretical shear stress evaluated at the depth where the residual stress disappeared below the inner raceway. Based on the relationship, it could be found that the factor of safety in bearing manufacturer’s rules for the effective case depth of case hardened rolling bearings was set higher. However, it could be also found that the hardness values at the depth where the maximum shearing stress acted below the raceway surface in a tapered roller bearing hardened by the carburizing process, were not sufficient for preventing plastic deformation under the basic dynamic load rating. Consequently, further efforts were still required to reduce or to disperse the contact load on the material design of a rolling bearing in order to prolong its life.

The objective of this study is to suggest the form rolling technology to produce high precision worm. Rack dies and roll dies are usually used to roll parts with worm teeth. The form roiling processes of worm shaft used as automotive part using the rack dies of counter flow type and the roll dies are considered and simulated by the commercial finite element code, DEFORM-3D. It is also important to determine the initial blank diameter in form rolling because it affects the quality of thread. The calculation method of the initial blank diameter in form rolling is suggested and it is verified by FE-simulation. The experiments using rack dies and roll dies are performed under the same conditions as those of simulation. The results of simulation and experiment in this study show that the from rolling process of worm shaft using the rack dies is decidedly superior to that using rolling dies from the aspect of the surface roughness and the profile of worm.

Most of shape defects in steel strip are originated from the structure of rolling mill itself. For instance, strip crown occurs when the work roll is deformed by the bending moment induced on roll chocks. To get rids of the shape defects, it is necessary to increase the stiffness of rolling mill. The structure change of back-up roll is one of alternative ways to increase the mill stiffness without facility revamping from 4 high mill to 6 high mill. In this research work, the new back-up roll was developed and can be used in any type of 4 high mill to reduce the strip shape defects. The developed back-up roll consists of sleeve, arbor and phase angle adjusting system for arbor. The circumference of arbor is specially machined to adapt the strip width change during rolling. The experimental cold rolling test was done to prove the effectiveness of newly developed back-up roll. The experimental rolling results show that the new back-up roll has more powerful performance in reducing the shape defects than conventional back-up roll. It was also found that the new back-up roll has higher stability for shape control. In addition to, the only sleeve surface needs to be reground and changed in most cases, so that the maintenance cost can be greatly reduced.
The techniques of joint mobilization and traction are used to improve joint mobility or to decrease pain by restoring accessory movements to the shoulder joints and thus allowing full, nonrestriced, pain-free range of motion. In the glenohumeral joint, the humeral head would be the convex surface, while the glenoid fossa would be the concave surface. The medial end of the clavicle is concave anterioposteriorly and convex superioinferiorly, the articular surface of the sternum is reciprocally curved. The acromioclavicular joint is a plane synovial joint between a small convex facet on lateral end of the clavicle and a small concave facet on the acromion of the scapula. The relationship between the shape of articulating joint surface and the direction of gliding is defined by the Convex-Concave Rule. If the concave joint surface is moving on a stationary convex surface, gliding occur in the same direction as the rolling motion. If the convex surface is moving on a stationary concave surface, gliding will occur in an opposite direction to rolling. Hypomobile shoulder joints are treated be using a gliding technique.

In a rolling wire probe, a key component of an inspection apparatus for PDP electrode patterns, the electric performance of it is known to be strongly dependent on the surface condition of a collet pin, a needle pin, and a wire. However, the collet and needle pins rotate very rapidly in contact with each other, which results in the degradation of the surface by the heat and friction and finally the formation of black wear marks on the surface after a several hundred hours test. Once the black wear marks appear on the surface, the electric resistance of the probe increases sharply and so the integrity of the probe is severely damaged. In this experiment, TiN coating, which has excellent electric conductances and good wear-resistance, has been applied on the surface of collect and needle pins for preventing the surface damages. In order to achieve the homogeneous coating with a good adhesion property, special coating substrate stages and jigs were designed and applied during coating. TiN has been deposited using 99.999% Titanium target by a DC reactive sputtering method. According to the components and jigs, processing parameters, such as DC power, RF bias and the flow rate ratio of Ar and N$_2$ used as reactive gases, has been controlled to obtain good TiN films. Detailed problems and solutions for applying the new substrate stages and jigs will be discussed.

Rolling noises during train operation are caused by vibration excited from irregularities of surface roughness between wheel and rail. Therefore, a proper measurement and analysis techniques of acoustic roughness between wheel and rail surface are required for transmission, prediction, and analysis of the train rolling noise. However, since current measuring devices and methods use trolley-based manual handling devices, the measurements induce unstable measuring speed and vibrational interface that increases errors and disturbances. In this paper, a new automatic rail surface exploring platform with a speed controller has been developed for improving measurement accuracy and reducing inconsistency of measurements. In addition, we propose a data integration method of the rail surface roughness with multiple homogeneous displacement sensors and verified the accuracy of the integrated data through standard test-bed railway track investigation.
Silicon nitride ceramic has been verified as an excellent rolling bearing material because of its high strength and outstanding rolling fatigue life properties. However under some corrosive circumstances it showed drawbacks such as hardness reduction and severe wear caused by corrosion. In this work, the variations of the rolling wear and hardness of three kinds of ceramics were studied for the specimen aged 15 days in alkali water (90 $\pm$ 2$\^{C}$,25 wt% NaOH ). All of the specimens, ① Si$_3$N$_4$, ② 3Y-TZP and ③ 3Y-TZP alloyed with 5 wt% CeO$_2$, were sintered and post-HIPed, and then polished up to 0.02 $\mu$mRa of surface roughness. Rolling wear tests were conducted by MJ type rolling fatigue life tester under the initial theoretical maximum contact stress of 3.16 GPa and the spindle speed of 1,000 rpm. Spindle oil was used as a lubricant. The specimens were not worn before aging. For the specimen aged in alkali water, Si$_3$N$_4$ and 3Y-TZP were worn by rolling wear tests, and hardness was decreased. While aging the specimens, the phase was transformed from tetragonal to monoclinic in 3Y-TZP and the microstructure change occurred in Si$_2$N$_4$. 3Y-TZP specimens alloyed with 5 wt% CeO$_2$ were not worn after aging and no phase transformation occurred while aging.
