In this study, the technology to grow oriented nanotube thin film from dip-coated $TiO_2$ using hydrothermal method has been successfully developed. The effects of preparation parameters, such as reaction temperature, duration and post treatment conditions on the film morphologies and the adherence to the substrate, have been examined. A general formation mechanism of oriented titanate nanotube thin film is proposed in terms of the detailed observation of the products via two dimensional surface FESEM studies and HRTEM images. The overall formation of $TiO_2-based$ nanotube thin film can be summarized with three successive steps: (1) $TiO_2$ dissolving and amorphous $Na_2TiO_3$ deposition process; (2) layered $Na_2Ti_3O_7$ formation via spontaneous crystallization and rapid growth process; (3) formation of nanotube thin film via $Na_2Ti_3O_7$ splitting and multilayer scrolling process of (100) planes around the c axis of $Na_2Ti_3O_7$.

Objectives: This study evaluated 2 nickel-titanium rotary systems and a complementary protocol with an ultrasonic tip and a small-diameter instrument in flattened root canals. Materials and Methods: Thirty-two human maxillary second premolars with flattened canals (buccolingual diameter ≥4 times larger than the mesiodistal diameter) at 9 mm from the radiographic apex were selected. The root canals were prepared by ProDesign Logic (PDL) 30/0.01 and 30/0.05 or Hyflex EDM (HEDM) 10/0.05 and 25/0.08 (n = 16), followed by application of the Flatsonic ultrasonic tip in the cervical and middle thirds and a PDL 25/0.03 file in the apical third (FPDL). The teeth were scanned using micro-computed tomography before and after the procedures. The percentage of volume increase, debris, and uninstrumented surface area were analyzed using the Kruskal-Wallis, Dunn, Wilcoxon, analysis of variance/Tukey, and paired and unpaired t-tests (α = 0.05). Results: No significant difference was found in the volume increase and uninstrumented surface area between PDL and HEDM (p > 0.05). PDL had a higher percentage of debris than HEDM in the middle and apical thirds (p < 0.05). The FPDL protocol resulted in less debris and uninstrumented surface area for PDL and HEDM (p < 0.05). This protocol, with HEDM, reduced debris in the middle and apical thirds and uninstrumented surface area in the apical third (p < 0.05). Conclusions: High percentages of debris and uninstrumented surface area were observed after preparation of flattened root canals. The HEDM, Flatsonic tip, and 25/0.03 instrument protocol enhanced cleaning in flattened root canals.

Polyimides (PI) are widely used in applications ranging from microelectronics to aerospace. Due to their insulating nature, significant accumulation of electrostatic charge may result on their surface, causing local heating and premature degradation to electronic components or space structures. Over the past decade, several publications have been made in fabrication and charaterization of CNT nanocomposites [1,2]. (omitted)
Propellant waste was impregnated on the surface of activated carbon fiber and heat-treated at different temperature to introduce newly developed functional groups on the ACF surface. Functional groups of nitrogen and oxygen such as pyridine, pyridone, pyrrol, lacton and carboxyl were newly introduced on the surface of modified activated carbon fiber. The porosity, specific surface area, and morphology of those modified ACFs were changed as increasing the heat-treated temperature from 200 to $500^{\circ}C$. The optimum heat-treatment temperature was suggested to $500^{\circ}C$, because lower temperature given rise to the decrease of specific surface area and higher temperature resulted in the decrease of weight loss. Propellant waste can be used as an useful surface modifier to porous carbons.

A polymerized organic-inorganic complexation route is introduced for the synthesis of oxide ceramic powders. Polyvinyl alcohol was used as the organic carrier for precursor ceramic gel. Porous and soft powders, which have a high specific surface area, were obtained after calcinating the aerated precursors. The PVA content and its degree of polymerization had a significant influence on the homogeneity of the final powder. In particular, attrition milling process with the porous powder resulted in ultra-fine particles. In the case of the preparation of cordierite powder, nano-size powder, which has a high specific surface area of 181 ㎡/g, was obtained by the milling process. The complexation route was also applied to the synthesis of unstable phase in room temperature like beta-cristobalite, high temperature form of silica.
Ti-0 film is a kind of biocompatible surface materials. In this paper, a new method, glow discharge plasma oxidizing, has been used in synthesizing Ti-O gradient films on Ti6A14V substrates. The effects of ion bombardment and process parameters on the structures of titanium oxide layers have been investigated. The results demonstrate that DC glow plasma oxidizing is more efficient in preparation of dense, hard, and high adhesive Ti-O biomedical films on titanium and its alloys. Samples treated by this method show higher hardness values than by others. Especially, in the condition of hollow cathode discharge, the ion bombardment enhances ionization of oxygen, promotes the oxygen permeation and facilitates the formation of the oxide of low valence states of titanium.
In this study, we successfully prepared CNT/$TiO_2$, Pt/CNT and Pt/CNT/$TiO_2$ composites and investigated their photocatalytic activity in MB solution by irradiation under UV light. Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy was used to characterize the functional group on the surface of MWCNTs, which oxidized by MCPBA. Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) surface area, transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and energy dispersive X-ray (EDX) were used to analyze the prepared composites. The results of the decomposition of the MB solution indicated that the Pt/CNT/$TiO_2$ composite had the best photocatalytic activity among the three kinds of composites.
To fabricate dental nanocomposites containing finely dispersed silica nanoparticles, nearly monodispersed silica nanoparticles smaller than 25 nm were synthesized without forming any aggregates via a modified sol-gel process. Since silica nanoparticles synthesized by the Stober method formed aggregates when the particle size is smaller than 25 nm, the synthetic method was modified by changing the reaction temperature and adding poly(1-vinyl-2-pyrrolidinone) (PVP) to the reaction mixture. The size of the formed silica nanoparticles was reduced by increasing the reaction temperature or adding PVP. Furthermore, the formation of aggregates with primary silica nanoparticles smaller than 25 nm was prevented by increasing the amount of PVP added to the reaction mixture. To enhance the dispersion of the silica particles in an organic matrix, the synthesized silica nanoparticles were treated with 3-methacryloxypropyltrimethoxysilane ($\gamma$-MPS). A dental nanocomposite containing finely dispersed silica nanoparticles could be produced by using the surface-treated silica nanoparticles.

A bio-composites were prepared by mechanical mixing with bioactive sol-gel derived $CaO-SiO_2$ and organic PEEK for bone repairing hybrid materials. The composites were characterized by in-vitro test. A bonelike apatite was formed on the surface of all bio-composites in SBF test. The cell morphology and adhesion on the surface of the composites having below 30% PEEK were clearly observed in L929 cell experiment.
