In this study, nitrogen functional groups were introduced on graphite fiber (GF) to modify their electrical properties, and heating properties were investigated according to the treatment conditions. GF was prepared by a thermal solid-state reaction at $200^{\circ}C$ for 2 h. Surface properties of the nitrogen doped GF were examined by XPS, and its resistance and heating temperature were measured using a programmable electrometer and thermo-graphic camera, respectively. The XPS result showed that the nitrogen functional groups on the GF surface were increased with increasing of urea contents, and the heating property of the GF was also improved as nitrogen functional groups were introduced. The maximum heating temperature of GF treated by urea was $53.8^{\circ}C$ at 60 V, which showed 55% improved heating characteristics compared to that of non-treated GF. We ascribe this effect to introduced nitrogen functional groups on the GF surface by thermal solid-state reaction, which significantly affects the heating characteristics of GF.
In this paper, the electrical and resistance heating properties of carbon fiber heating elements with different electroless Ni-P plating times for car seat were studied. The specific resistance and specific heat of the carbon fibers were determined using 4-point probe method and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), respectively. The surface morphology and temperature of carbon fibers were measured by scanning electron microscope (SEM) and thermo-graphic camera, respectively. From experimental results, the nickel layer thickness and surface temperature of carbon fibers increased with increasing the plating time. However, the specific heat and specific resistance decreased with respect to the increased plating time. In conclusion, the electroless Ni-P plating could improve the resistance heating and electrical properties of carbon fiber heating elements for car seat.
Polypyrrole (PPy) was coated sequentially by chemical and electrochemical methods on a woven fabric, giving rise to a fabric having high electrical conductivity. We investigated the effects of the preparation conditions on the various properties of the resulting fabric. The PPy-coated fabric with optimum properties was obtained when it was prepared sequentially by chemical polymerization at the elevated temperature of 100$^{\circ}C$ under a pressure of 0.9 kgf/$\textrm{cm}^2$ and then electrochemical polymerization with a 3.06 mA/$\textrm{cm}^2$ current density at 25 $^{\circ}C$ for 2 hrs with the separator plate. The surface resistivity of the resulting fabric was as low as 5 Ω/$\square$ .The PPy-coated fabric prepared under the optimum conditions showed practically applicable heat generating property. When electrical power was supplied to the fabric using a commercial battery for a mobile phone (3.6 V, LGLl-AHM), the temperature of the fabric increased very quickly from room temperature to ca. 55 $^{\circ}C$ within 2 min and was maintained for ca. 80 min at that temperature. The heat generating property of the fabric was extremely stable, exhibiting similar behavior over 10 repeated cycles. Therefore, we suggest that the PPy-coated fabric in this study may be practically useful for many applications, including flexible, portable surface-heating elements for medical or other applications.

Analysis of heat transfer on small-size Diesel engine is required for the development of high performance and efficiency engine. This basic study aims to establish heat transfer technique for marine Diesel engine. The main results from this study are as follows : 1) Overall engine heat transfer correlation of Re-Nu. 2) Radiant heat flux as fraction of total heat flux over the load range of several different Diesel engine. 3) Characteristics of heating curves on piston, cylinder liner and head. 4) Surface heat flux versus injection timing.
The traditional Korean Ondol System that is a radiant floor heating system was made as warm floor and cool indoor temperature. Nowaday, Ondol is developed as the hydronic floor heating system. But unbalance of floor temperature and indoor temperature is occurred bocause strengthen thermal insulation and airtightness in building changes thermal performance. To solve these problems, we examine actual indoor environment of heating system methods in existing apartments and present the new method of floor heating system. The existing heating system made definite indoor temperatures but floor temperatures that is $22^{\circ}C-26^{\circ}C$ was maintained. To solve these problems, we adopted the differential heating system which made warm area and cool area. A differential heating system was made different pitches of heating pipe in single zone and ratio of warm area to cool area is 1 to 2. As a result of experiments, warm area temperature is $40.7^{\circ}C$, cool area temperature is $36.1^{\circ}C$. A difference of temperature between both area is 4K. A distribution of indoor vertical temperature is similar to both warm area and cool area.

In this study, the results are compared with the case of the concrete with embedded heating wire to verify the performance of the IB made in order to improve the workability and affordability, and to determine the effectiveness of early frost damage prevention. The IB was made using the 5W heating wire and layed on the upper surface of the concrete. The temperature was reduced to below 0℃ approximately within 24 hours, then approached the external temperature thereafter. On the other hand, when the 20W heating wire was used to make the IB and applied the same way, the temperature remained around -2 to 3℃ on the average even through the temperature was reduced to below 0℃, due to the heating wire with relatively large heating capacity. It appeared to reach 85% of the direct heating by embedding the heating wire relatively deeper in the concrete. However, it was determined that using the IB made with the 20W heating wire will prevent the early frost damage to some degree in -10℃.

In this study, we analyzed the heat generation state of a flat heating element by using image processing technology in conjunction with carbon fiber. The flat heating element is manufactured by chopping the carbon fiber to a small size and bonding it again using a dispersing agent. The solution of carbon fiber, bound together using the dispersant, is then filtered onto the nonwoven fabric. The last step is to obtain flat carbon fibers in the form of nonwoven fabrics for the purpose of drying the filtered carbon fibers. In the flat heating element, electricity may be applied to the carbon fiber on the surface produced in this manner. In this study, the flat heating element was analyzed by four methods. The analysis of the heat generation characteristics and heating rate of the flat heating element confirmed that the fabricated sheet heating element corresponds to a normal army. The analysis of the insulation coating and flat heating element module, which can be used for actual product manufacturing, involves two dimensional image analysis using image processing technology. The thermal image analysis of the flat heating element is a programming technique that not only analyzes the heat generation state in both two and three dimensions, but also displays the upper and lower 15 to 20% ranges of temperature corresponding to the heat generation in the image. In the final analysis, it is possible to easily find the erroneous part in the manufacturing process by directly showing the state of the fabricated flat heating element on the screen. By combining this image analysis method of the flat heating element with the existing method, we were able to more accurately analyze the heat generation state.

In this study, spalling property were evaluated from concrete with compressive strengths of 30MPa, 90MPa, 180MPa, applied with fast heating condition(ISO-834 standard heating curve) and slow heatign condition(1℃/min). As a result, the spalling property of concrete was shown differently with compressive and heatign rate. And It could be separated three as non spalling, surface spalling and explosive spalling.

The theoretical analysis and experiment with simulator were performed to obtain the temperature distributions in radiant heating panel and heat supply from hot water to heating space for the purpose of the development of comfortable living space from a point of view of the improvement of air quality and the enhancement of system efficiency. The relations of various parameters, such as pipe pitch, room temperature as well as flow rate and temperature of hot water and so on, with the rate of heat supplied, mean temperature and maximum temperature difference at panel surface were discussed. The effects of these parameters were also verified on the thermal performance of heating panel using the relations which could be used for the optimal design and operation of the radiant heating panel.
The characteristics of the induction heating process are analyzed for the joint of nylon and metal. The temperature of metal surface is measured using thermocouples. The relations of temperature and induction heating parameters are analyzed. Heat equation models are constructed and the temperature distribution is predicted using Fluent. The effects of heating parameters on the joint strength are evaluated. Finally, the optimal parameters of induction heating process are proposed as 16kW and 6 seconds.
